Thacher and Rye
Ambiance and service were fantastic. Unfortunately the food was subpar and overpriced for the portions.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish!
I visited the restaurant on Mother’s Day. As soon as we arrived, we were in for a treat. Immediately, we sat down with our reservation ( rarely happens). Hostess was polite and inviting. The restaurant was clean with wonderful ambience. The food was absolutely unbelievable and arrived timely. Drinks were delightful and the dessert was a great way to end the evening. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Fredrick now!!!! Well done Thacher and Rye! We had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
Everything was wonderful and I'd order it all again! My favorite dishes were the scallops and the goat cheese ravioli! Professional but unpretentious staff, too. Nice wine list and good bar drinks!
Service was slow and sterile. Food was good but not memorable. Some ingredients (like onions on my salad) not mentioned on menu and had I known would have requested to be left off. Enjoyed dinner with my family but not in a hurry to go back.
Unbelievable meal and top-notch professional service from every employee. The food was incredible, every course we had was delicious (definitely try the lasagna and jumbo gulf shrimp appetizer.) A great and memorable experience and we will definitely come back again. Thank you for having us and delivering such high quality.
Fabulous food and top service- one of the best restaurants in Maryland.
Well executed tasty food at a price that reflects the craftmenship.
Amazing food and beautiful main street location. Would go again!
We loved going to the Volt before it changed to the Thatcher and Rye and looked forward to our meal at the new Thacher and Rye. The food was excellent, service was good even with COVID restrictions. The only improvement would be in the bar service. Several people in our dinner party have medical problems with alcoholic beverages but when they requested non-alcoholic beers were informed that Thatcher and Rye did not have any non-alcoholic beers only moctails and only one flavor/type! This is unacceptable for this type of restaurant, especially during these socially responsible times.
Wonderful food! Definitely a first and second course were enough for a full dinner; and do not miss the goat cheese ravioli!!
The staff was extremely professional and attentive. The bartender made amazing drinks. And the chef prepared amazing entrees!
Outdoor dining made extra pleasant, with a fine food take on a pub menu. Menu has nice options. Food is delicious, but expensive and genuinely tiny portions even for this genre. If you spend that much for lasagna, you might hope for a piece larger than a Twinkie*. Bartender was surly, which is a little odd for a bartender. Service was slow, but as the evening went on, that translated into a leisurely pace with a friendly helpful server. A notable positive is a menu with some unusual and unfamiliar ingredients which our server was happy to explain. I’ll definitely go back, and I appreciate their commitment to making outdoor dining work.
Great service. Food got “casual” compared to Volt’s menu but still decent. Boardwalk fries were a surprising disappointment not that they were bad but I couldn’t believe thick boardwalk fries were served for $8. If they were dressed up shoes strings or used some variety potatoes it would have been way better. Scalloped jasmine rice was great except for the inconsistent amount of salt between the two pieces. One was almost NOT edible because it was so salty but I am not one to send food back. I feel like they would have never made that mistake if it was still Volt.
A little noisy in the room with the kitchen. Overall this restaurant is a great transformation to a more casual and fine dining experience
Fantastic food! The beer dinner was great.
Fabulous food! Fabulous ambiance! Fabulous service! A perfect spot fir a fabulous meal.
We enjoyed the evening. My only complaint is that it was not clear on Open Table that my reservation was indoors. I had intended outdoor dining, The hostess was able to
move us outside due to a cancellation, which made all the difference to us!
The staff helped me organize an outdoor space for an impromptu birthday celebration. The service outside, and then for dinner inside later, were both excellent. Gorgeous space.
The food was beautiful and delicious. Our waiter had a great personality and gave us some advice on our selections.
The meal started out strong; we really enjoyed our first courses and cocktails. 2nd courses were fine. But our entrees...the vegetarian option was wet, mushy "cereal" (think oatmeal, but rice) with a flavorless broth and two thick, rubbery mushrooms sitting in it. At least the wilted cabbage leaf that accompanied the mushrooms had flavor. (Why do chefs think that mushrooms are so appealing to vegetarians? I mean, I love them, but we need protein too.) It would have been disappointing at even a third of the cost we paid for it.
Each plate was meticulously crafted and a true work of art. The staff was very attentive and knowledgable.
What a great spot! Try it out - you will definitely not regret it! Oh, and don’t skip dessert!
Clark was very nice , attentive and suggested menu items . Entire staff was working well .
The 21 layer lasagna was the best dish I’ve had in my life. Went on a Thursday just after it finished raining and the patio was very quiet with only three couples.
Food was excellent and prepared with such attention to detail. The goat cheese ravioli are an absolute must for anyone visiting.
Creative, fresh, friendly.
The outdoor patio was perfect.
Service is professional but unpretentious.
The first course of lettuces with avocado frost was a great start.
Thacher and Rye was a superb meal. We could not have asked for a better experience and we will remember it for a long time. The food was exquisitely prepared, thoughtful and delicious.
It was a nice chance to try something different, but I probably would not go back. The waiter was great, the food was OK... but definitely not worth the price. Not really sure how a tiny piece of chicken cost more than two rounds of oysters
Amazing food. Great server. Wonderful courtyard. Brian Voltaggio was in the kitchen supervising and cooking and greeted us. Could not ask for more.
Husband and I came here a few times when it was Volt. Loved dining at the Table 21. Needed to give Thatcher &Rye a go. So glad we did. Food was amazing! Who new you could make a main dish from mushrooms?! We also had the oysters, beet salad, scallops, ravioli , chocolate dessert and a few awesome cocktails. Brian and the crew do a fantastic job. Can’t wait to go back!
Both the food and the service were excellent with plenty of safety precautions in place.
Had a great experience. The outdoor patio is lovely. Service was phenomenal.
All around great. Our server Catherine is a big part of the experience and of course the food is worth the 120 mile round trip.
I am a huge fan of Chef Voltaggio from watching him compete on Top Chef and more recently on Tournament of Champions. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to dine at his restaurant. The food was superb. The service was great and the ambiance was elegant and comfortable at the same time. I love the way the menu is set up to be able to choose each of the courses and each one was cooked exceptionally well.
I highly recommend dining here. I cannot wait until my next visit
Perfect for a special celebration. The food is amazing and the atmosphere great. Pricey but worth the experience. Great value and great memories.
We are indoors and had lots of space between tables.
Food and staff are amazing
We ate outside, which was charming. Our server was outstanding. We started with a small plate lasagna that was perfect; For main courses, I had a pork loin, tender and excellent, and my partner had a hamburger, also delicious. We also ordered the special (and expensive) bread, which I would not recommend....not worth the price....but the free bread sticks were terrific.
Thacher and Rye is moderately expensive, but the ambience and food quality make it a good value.
I am a huge fan of Bryan Voltaggio, and I couldn’t wait to try his new restaurant. It didn’t disappoint. The cocktails were great. I had an Old Fashioned and my husband had Sudden Realization. We split Spice Gulf Shrimp and Kale Spaccatelli for our appetizers. Then he had Black See Bass and I had the pork loin. For dessert we had the Chocolate and the Cheesecake. Everything was amazingly delicious. Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious meal and terrific service! We ate outside which was really nice.
The staff and service were impeccable. The food was delicious and creative without being pretentious. The portions were perfect and the menus had enough variety to make choosing dishes a struggle in a good way.
