Charming and well appointed interior. Everything we had was fantastic, the octopus was cooked perfectly and the mushroom risotto was the best we had had anywhere.
Food was great, server lacked enthusiasm and could care less about our table. Didn’t ask for a cocktail refill, previously my husband and I always split a salad they always have done it in the kitchen per the waiters request this time a plate was slugged down along with the salad here ya go I found it tacky at a fine dining establishment. I can see that at Denny’s not here. My mom was delivered the wrong food I asked what did you order I saw it right away that it wasn’t lamb sure enough it was wrong even I asked when it was placed is that the lamb…yes sorry a seasoned server would be able to tell what a rack of lamb and pork tenderloin look like. Something was off this night. Normally everything is fabulous and it’s a relaxing perfect dinner. Also the remodeled restaurant is beautiful and has a great vibe so urban feeling glad to see the update.
Delicious food, very creative menu, pleasant atmosphere.
We had items that we had ordered in the past and they were as good or better than before the pandemic closing. The refresh on the interior was a big plus.
The Alcove provides an outstanding dining experience. The ambience is calm and elegant with soft lighting. You can actually have a conversation. The food was creative, very delicious, and seasoned almost perfectly! The menu offers many choices for all types of appetites. Good wine list with reasonable prices. Had the appetizer of baby octopus with tiny greens, cubes of avocado, in a luscious sauce gribache. They were just a tad salty, but very tasty! The other party had the mussels and declared them wonderful. Both of us had the halibut with lobster tortellini in a saffron sauce. Delicious! For dessert, Grand Marnier souffles with vanilla ice cream and a light caramel sauce. You have to love a place that makes souffles! We asked to speak to the chef, to complement him on the food. He came to our table, and was very warm and gracious, and you could see the pride he has in his restaurant. The wait staff were all efficient and our server was delightful. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope that more people discover this total gem. It is very obvious how hard everyone works at the Alcove to make the dining experience a very memorable one.
The lamb chops were excellent.
Thanks for a nice anniversary celebration. We enjoyed it very much.
Food was great. Service very slow Asked for more bread. Had to ask again. The food is delicious. Maybe they don’t have enough help. Waited a long time between courses
Wonderful food, service, and ambiance! Great place to meet up with old friends - quiet so we could hear one another and we were not rushed. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We had reservations for an ealy dinner and when we arrived, we were met at the door by staff. They acted as though they were genuinely happy to see us.
Service, food and atmosphere were delightful!
The food was on point even though they didn’t have the dish we wanted on the menu. It was still very delicious. The service was good but some of our waiters were a little rude and seemed annoyed when we asked questions, the older looking waiters didn’t smile at all. I would go back for the food but not for the service.
All the staff were welcoming and efficient and the food was superb. The menu was interesting and the baby octopus appetizer was outstanding. The wine selection was impressive as well. Highly recommend Alcove!
Perfectly prepared halibut and branzino dishes. Subtle, complex lobster sauce on halibut. Sophisticated cuisine.
This place has never been better! Food was just fabulous.
The food was high quality, imaginative and well prepared. The staff was attentive and efficient. I will return.
Seating was very uncomfortable. I am average height and never have any trouble sitting in a restaurant. These chairs were weirdly and uncomfortably elevated so it was hard to have my feet flat on the floor. Service was slow and inaccurate--our dessert were served to another table. Lighting was poor-difficult to read menus printed in a gray font. We had branzino and duck which were delicious. Onion confit mashed potatoes were awful, tasted like an instant mix made with water--coarse and flavorless. Dessert delightful but failed to come promptly because of serving mix up. Unlikely to return until seating arrangements are fixed--chairs were supremely uncomfortable all night.
The food was superb. Halibut entrees, scallop special w truffles, duck breast. Corn soup
This is a great fine dining restaurant ,
Although it is a lovely space it was clear that night the kitchen and the wait staff were understaffed. The worst part was waiting an hour for my entrée After a salad and when it came it was tepid which doesn’t bode well for duck breast. Also my water glass was constantly empty which to me seems like the most basic service for a meal that was with tip cost me $429
Not going to be on the top of my list
We flew in from the NJ/NYC area for our sons graduation . This restaurant was phenomenal ! Would come here again! Please open a branch in the NJ/NYC area!
We had an early (5 pm) reservation due to travel needs. So the place was empty until we were almost finished with our meal. The atmosphere was very subdued, as a result. It is very nicely decorated, the staff were very nice, attentive, and efficient. The food was superb. Cooked perfectly, prepared beautifully and served timely.
I'd like to try to go during prime dinner hour to see the ambiance in a different setting.
Inattentive service, poorly executed soup and lamb, short ribs were acceptable, kale side dish came out 10 minutes after the entrees but was good, dessert was excellent. A $260 unremarkable meal for two, I may come back for dessert and drinks after dinner elsewhere.
we ate in the patio, which is leafy, spacious, and mostly quiet (except when a train comes rumbling by on the nearby elevated tracks). The food was exquisite. We shared a perfectly made goat cheese tart. I had sturgeon with lobster sauce and delightful lobster ravioli. The rhubarb tart was also excellent--intense rhubarb flavor with just enough sweetness. the crust was totally different from the one for the goal cheese tart, and each was perfect for its dish.
i haven't (yet) eaten inside, but it looks very nice -- large and with lots of well-spaced tables.
Food and hostess and the guys who bused our table were wonderful. Our server struggled.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years and love it. The meal, as always, was fabulous. The seared octopus was extraordinary. So we’re the muscles and the halibut. But the service was way too slow. I hope it was an anomaly because this is one of our favorite restaurants!!
So nice to see you back with us last night! and I'm so glad to hear that we're still one of your favorite restaurants. We are still working out some of the kinks in the transition to becoming a busy restaurant, some of which were evident last night. I can assure you that it was an anomaly. We look forward to having you back with us again, soon. All the Best! Michael Wathen General Manager

We loved this place. My wife and I had a lovely dinner here last week to celebrate our anniversary. The food was amazing. The drinks were great. Big big fan.
Thank you Mike! I'm so glad you enjoyed your Anniversary Dinner. We are looking forward to having you back with us for many more! Michael Wathen General Manager
My guest had been many years ago and I never had been. It is fine dining at its finest hidden under the railroads and it feels like you're going to Grand Central in N Y or walking through the passageways in Paris to get to their trains. Mike G M was amazing host and helped us every step of the way. The appetizers - salad and seafood medley soup were delight filled as were our entrees - braised short ribs and beef tenderloin. Of course we had to order soufflé's before dinner - coconut and Grand Maringnier (sp) and for dessert they were scrumptious. Its a hidden secret we will return to.
It is always a pleasure to dine at The Alcove for special occasions. The service is impeccable and the food delicious. The high prices preclude frequent visits!
The rack of lamb and the halibut were outstanding. The crab cake dish presentation was exceptional, I did not get a report on the quality, but the dish was thoroughly enjoyed.
The service was good but the restaurant was 60% full and the wait staff was insufficient.
The location most convenient and the new decor more up to the times.
Great menu. Everything well prepared and attractively presented. Friendly, if slightly overworked service. 97% perfect evening.
We went to have dinner on Wednesday . It was an obvious slow day. Only 2 tables when we arrived. The location is interesting but the interior is very nice. The food was OUTSTANDING. It was only a big CONS.. the timing for serving the food was extremely S L O W. An average of 45mins waiting for each course. We arrived at 6pm and we left at 8pm with a pending dessert that arrived after we asked for the check. We asked a couple times to our waitress and he was not nice but neither rude, just whatever.
I’d probably give it another chance because the food was on point.
Guests who have need to finish their meal by a certain time need to tell the staff of that constraint upon arrival. Ordinarily the pace of service here is definitely unrushed.
Thanks so much for your 5-star review! And yes, we always ask that if you have a time constraint please let us know when you when you are seated so that we can assist you with meeting your deadline. Thanks again! Michael Wathen General Manager
Mother's Day brunch was nothing exceptional .... food was good, but not great and when going to brunch you'd expect at least one breakfast type option, but there was none. Also, one of our servers had an attitude who actually told my daughter to put her phone away when he was delivering one of the courses, which was completely out of line. It was not his call to make and I was offended and so was my daughter. This was sort of an old school dining establishment and it was my first time dining there and I will not give them another shot.
I am very sorry about your experience on Mother's Day. I could give you a million excuses but I would rather just say that I'm truly sorry and would welcome an opportunity to make things right should you change your mind and give us another opportunity to win you back. Please let me know if that would be possible. Thank you Michael Wathen General Manager
I hope this was an anomaly. We went for Mothers Day brunch and it was a set menu. You chose one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert. The full meal menu was taken for everyone at once. It took 2 hours and 20 min for the three courses. After an hour of receiving her first cup of coffee my sister was asked if she wanted another. No one stopped by the table to ask if we needed anything. My sister wanted to take her dessert home and she received her dessert in a bag 15+ min before the rest of the table received theirs. No one apologized for the long delays. The food was delicious but the service was horrible. Again, I hope they just ended up being short staffed unexpectedly. Even so, someone should have said we are so sorry for the long wait. I will not go back unless I see some good reviews that service was wonderful.
Thanks so much for your painfully honest review. It seems we dropped the ball in several areas during your visit. Mother's Day was quite a bit busier than we expected this year and we still had not fully staffed the restaurant. This is absolutely not the way we take care of our guests. It really was an anomaly. I would like invite you to dine with us again as my guest. Please let me know. Thanks again and best regards, Michael Wathen General Manager
We really enjoyed the Mother’s Day Brunch. It’s a really nice restaurant in a good location. The food was delicious. My only complaint was that the service was incredibly slow. I don’t think it was anyone’s fault, just maybe understaffed due to the pandemic. We will be back to try dinner on a non-holiday.
Thanks so much for your kind words and understanding with regard to Mothers Day. We are still working out some issues with regard to service . We look forward to spoiling you on your next visit!
