The Bistro at La Tourelle
It was ok, not great but ok for a quick breakfast
We were there for brunch. The food was very tasty (although the potato portion our plates was laughable... small, bland, and slightly cool) and our server was pleasant, but she didn't do anything "above and beyond." The place was empty and she sat us right next to the door (and a table with some employee playing on his phone. ) We had to ask to sit somewhere else. The whole experience was somewhat awkward. My pet peeve is when restaurants don't play music for their guests, particularly when the place is empty. We felt like we had to whisper. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary. It was just all right, but it came without any garnish... the server's excuse was, "We seem to have a celery shortage." Our water and coffee was not refilled until we asked. Plates and cups were never cleared until we were leaving. And again, it's not like they were busy... we were the only guests until about the time we received our check. So... altogether, I was bummed. I expected much better.
We went for brunch. Small but very nice space and menu. My husband and I both had oatmeal crusted French toast. Coffee was delicious, ambiance interesting with stained glass ceiling, and service was excellent!
No I don’t want to
Been there several times and food is always good, service is great, and atmosphere has a homey yet elegant feel
Family brunch. Feels like a back corner of a diner. ZERO ambience.
Server asked for our drink order as she literally ran by without stopping. I had to shout mine.
Food was very mediocre. Sourdough bread sounded like homemade turned out to be paper thin tasteless bought
Hash brown potatoes as a side for three of us were so uncooked they crunched. When we told server she offered to re-cook them. no thanks!! She then brought out a tiny single side plate of a reheated puddle of potatoes for all three of us that you could finish in three forkfuls.
Would never recommend for breakfast or brunch
The food is very good for the price and the environment is perfect for a business lunch. I highly recommend.
Whenever we stay at La Tourelle, we always make reservations at this bistro for every morning of our stay. There is something for everyone including gluten free toast, made to order omelettes, yogurt with berries, and yummy bakery items. Maybe next time we will try the lunch and cocktails.
Attentive service; great food! Wonderful atmosphere! Will definitely go back!
Nice but drafty sitting next to outside door with servers moving to patio
I had discovered La Tourelle at freshman orientation four years ago and it was on my bucket list to eat at the Bistro before my son graduated!
We had booked brunch after the Ithaca College graduation for six of us and we couldn’t have been happier! Everyone was hungry and there was something scrumptious to please every taste bud! Two of us had the eggs Benedict which were delicious.
Two of our party were delayed by a flat tyre but the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and though our brunch ran late because of the flat tyre delay, we felt very non rushed and will definitely return again to this charming old world atmosphere! We also had savored the John Thomas steakhouse in the grounds of La Tourelle the evening before and had a wonderful experience there also!
Went for mother's day brunch as part of a stay at La Tourelle. Food was delicious and the chef was able to customize one of the dishes during a very busy service. Love this place for breakfast when visiting Ithaca!
We had a wonderful time! The food was delicious, our server was so friendly and patient with my 98 y/o Gramma. I was very happy with our brunch!
We had a lovely family crunch while visiting our daughter who is a student at Ithaca College. We wanted to go some place that was nicer than where she usually goes with friends and this was the place! Everything was special. We asked for a quiet table and they called in advance to warn us that there was a large group. The setting is charming. The food was delicious with great choices. I got waffles-not a usual pick for me- because I was tempted by the apricot compote. Others got delicious omelettes - to quote: the best I’ve ever had. They surprised us with danish. The breads from Ithaca bakery were also great as was the coffee with amaretto.
We’ll be back.
The food was ok. Bacon had been sitting for awhile before it got to us so it was not crunchy. There were incredibly loud children at one of the tables. They set the scene for the entire dining room. The wait staff was given an opportunity to control the situation but didn’t. Instead the comment given to the parents was, “they are fine, don’t worry”. It was clearly a missed opportunity.
The dining room could use an update. The air was stale and I was happy to leave. I will not return.
Delicious & very friendly for gluten free eaters. Great menu options for a good price.
We got free breakfast with our package
It was just ok average
They literally did not have enough menus for our large party, said they "ran out" of pastries and didn't have enough coffee brewed at the beginning. We had a reservation ... so... you knew we were coming? Server apathetic and not apologetic. If we weren't all thrilled to see each other as family that hadn't all been together in years it would've been even worse. La Tourelle, you're better than that. You're an institution. Act like it.
