Heirloom Restaurant at the Athenaeum Hotel
Sunday brunch on a lovely August day - what could be better?
A bit pricey but we only do it once a summer.
The atmosphere is very relaxing and their is variety of food to choose from at the buffet area. I would have liked to see a beverage section so we didn't have to keep looking for our busy waitress but overall it was a great venue.
Overall a pleasant experience... didn't like to see the flys on open buffet area... perhaps some screens are in order... in general it was wonderful
Experience was wonderful. Service top notch Carla was our server and she was very attentive to our needs
Food was fabulous. Seafood buffet to die for. Everything a seafood lover desires all in one place - clams oysters crab legs fish, clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, smoke salmon just to name a few things. My belly left full and satisfied. Kudos to the Executive Chef on his choices
Great wine selection including local wineries.
We sat out on the porch looking out to the lake to relax before heading to concert
Will definitely be back.
Our anniversary dinner was spectacular. The table with the lakeside view made the evening even more special. We toasted our anniversary in the right place. Thank you.
awful service loud food overpriced with no flavor
Wonderful experience on the porch. Lunch was largely bland.
We had a lovely evening with our visiting guests!
We love Heirloom the food the service the views the architecture the ambiance. It is a gem. Everyone should try it for many reasons and many times of day.
Very nice brunch… Good variety… Beautiful atmosphere
Beautiful to sit out on the porch. The service and food was really good! I would return for sure.
Dinner with spouse. We were very satisfied with ambience and food quality. Will return again next year.
Also did lunch once this week, a satisfying experience 👍😋
Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. The location at the Chautauqua Institution is unmatched. The service was a little slow but not a problem as we had the whole evening to enjoy the dinner.
A lovely place with great choices, including healthy options. Service can be a bit haphazard, but always with great attitudes.
Made a reservation more than 2 months in advance for 4:15pm. Arrived to an empty restaurant. Asked the hostess if we could sit out on the (now empty) porch. She said “You have to make a reservation between 4 and 5.” This made no sense as it was 4:15 at the time. We were seated inside by a window where we could see throughout the meal the porch remained empty.
The food was terrible. Oily soup. Bland prime rib. Mashed potatoes we had to mash ourselves. Burnt pot stickers. Bland rolls. Cold zucchini. The salad and shrimp cocktail were fine.
The waiter James T was the bright spot. He was personable and efficient.
Will not be back ever. Very expense and overall not worth the price.
Enjoyed the shrimp and grits, great service! Drinks a little strong lol
Pork chops soaked in apple brine were to die for!!! My wife's scallops were nice sized and delicious as well, sitting by the windows, on the lake, was beautiful... Enough said!!!
Had the Sunday buffet and the food was not replenished in a timely manner. They ran out of several desserts early on. What food we did have was good.
wonderful brunch, great selection of items all of them delicious. I missed a toasting station but understand the server could have gotten me toast, bagel, etc from the kitchen - so I have only myself to criticize for not asking! Thank you for the experience.
Food was somewhat average - this appears to have been a ‘great’ hotel at some point but has fallen away in terms of quality and environment. Would benefit from some $$$ investment to bring back to former glory.
We have never been to that area & it was recommended to us by a friend. Quaint little place with a fantastic view. Drinks were not great & the food was just okay. The server was extremely knowledgeable & on top of everything. We would definitely come back just for the experience.
Filet was excellent. Carrots and potatoes were room temperature
We ate on the porch. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Our server was attentive and friendly. Our food was delicious. Do not hesitate to dine here. Reserve early, popular place
Beautiful ambiance on porch, but lunch was cold cuts and basic salads, nothing creative or homemade tasting. House wine way over priced.
The salmon was delicious and served with a perfect glaze. The steaks were tender and cooked to perfection. The service was also exemplary.
I took a friend visiting from out of town and for her it was more than just going out to a nice restaurant, it was an experience: the view from the veranda, the beautiful hotel and surroundings, the service, the food! Michelle, our waiter, was excellent: warm and welcoming, answered all our questions , and was very attentive throughout our dinner. From now on, this will be my go to place whenever I have guests from out of town. I just hope they come in the summer!
Charming and quaint setting; a true Chautauqua experience. One must see and taste to have the full experience.
The atmosphere was wonderful. Beautiful setting, quaint.
There was an individual playing the piano as we enjoyed our Sunday brunch. It was beautiful music and added to our wonderful experience.
The food was excellent. So many choices.
Million-dollar view, great service, and good food. The Heirloom Restaurant should be experienced while attending a lecture at the Chautauqua Institute.
We were celebrating our 32 wedding anniversary
We had a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. Because we used open table, we were able to enter the gate without paying and receive a free 3 hour gate pass. We also received free valet service at the hotel / restaurant because we used the Open table app to make our reservation
Service was good but food was awesome. I had the seared scallops with roasted carrots and real mashed potatoes. Hubby had filet perfectly cooked with the same sides as I had. He also had cup of lobster bisque soup which he said was very tasty. Wine and bubbly choices are awesome
Dessert - Carrot cake and what I call a reconstructed strawberry shortcake were heavenly. Yummy!!
We sat inside the dinning room near the windows and could see a very pleasant view of Chautauqua lake. We finished our evening on the porch sitting in rocking chairs, sipping our wine and enjoying the orchestra that was playing at the amphitheater on the grounds.
It had a quaint atmosphere that we enjoyed very much. Can’t wait until we come back to the Heirloom Restaurant in August. We are coming to Chautauqua for a concert and will be eating hear again. We heard Saturday’s during the season they have a to die for seafood buffet so we are coming back for that as well
This was my second time dining at he Heirloom and I was most pleased with this experience. Wonderful atmosphere and a beautiful view compliment the spectacular meal we enjoyed. Our waiter, Dennis, provided the most excellent service we could hope for and interacted with our table in a very friendly manner without being overbearing. The features that night suggested by Dennis were so greatly enjoyed, and he was spot on with their description. The Heirloom will definitely be a destination for more dining in my future!
The Sunday Brunch offers a wide assortment of breakfast, lunch and even dinner type dishes. For the seafood lover, there is a satisfying variety. Some items they did run out off. I especially would have liked to sink my teeth into one of the chocolate-covered strawberries, but by the time I got to that table, they were gone. The view of the lake was gorgeous which made our dining experience very special.
Friday July 12 Marvelous setting...attentive friendly service...good food.
Lunch was a buffet of lukewarm mediocre food or make-your-own cold cut sandwiches. There were
Two unlabeled soups.
A classic at Chautauqua- large room staff friendly and helpful, leisurely service so not a good choice if you are attending one of the evening events at a specified time. . Food was very good and wine selection good, A little on the pricey side but worth it.
The waitress was excellent. She was just the right kind of attentive. The food was monochrome - all 3 plates looked same brownish. Even so it was quite tasty.
The porch floor was so uneven that we two who were not facing the lake had to turn sideways so as not to slide off the chair. THAT was an issue.
Buffet very nice for the price. Wine too expensive - $`12 for Pinot Grigio too much.
All the waitresses/ers, busboys, etc. extremely gracious, knowledgeable, charming.
Perfect lunch time on the porch with a little breeze - what could be finer!
We enjoyed our lunch in your restaurant in a very historical place. There was a nice assortment of items on the buffet table. In soe cases it was difficult to know what some of the items actually were. For example, what appeared to be potatoes was actually chicken salad as I found out later from a staff member. I suggested to her the restaurant should put a small sign in front of each food item so people know what it is. Great seeing all of the people enjoying themselves!
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch in a most angelic environment sitting in front porch overlooking Lake Chautauqua. Our server Lewis was very attentive and the meal was excellent quality and quantity. We enjoy coming here for lunch on every Chautauqua visit. C U in August again👍😀
Wonderful young people providing excellent service. Food very exceptional for a Sunday buffet!!
