The Blue Ball
I ate with my daughter, a rare treat and tucked in a corner of the dining area we were able to enjoy each other as well as nice food
Had one of the special of the day, it was really good, above average for pub grub.
We were a party of four. Most of us enjoyed the meal, but I probably chose the wrong main course. We were surprised that nobody but us wore a mask to enter the pub and move around. However, it was well ventilated with the doors open, so I didn’t feel unsafe, even though it was very busy.
Food just ok, had the chicken liver parfait which was delicious but got some floppy thin bread with it which let the dish down. With so many beautiful breads now days this was a poor choice.
For main I had the steak baguette. A lot of bread and the thinnest piece of steak which hardly filled the roll. Was supposed to have horseradish etc but it was very tasteless. I would not have that again it was disappointing to be honest.
Service was ok. Had to work hard to get anyone’s attention. The mains came while we were still eating out starters…. Then our plates were left on the table after we were finished our meal. All in all it was just ok. Nothing special ☹️
Excellent sandwiches. Friendly service. Nice environment.
Good service and lovely food, clean and nice atmosphere
The Fod was great, the service was so poor
A lovely birthday lunch good food and nice waitresses .even put a candle in the brownie as a last minute request.
Very easy to book. Pleasant surroundings. Food good; nothing extraordinary but nevertheless, good. Service efficient.
Lovely menu and great food. A really enjoyable visit.
we had a fantastic meal, great food, family friendly, lovely setting / feel
Everything was very good especially as my friend is not in the best of health.
We came for an early evening meal. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The main meals-chilli and pasta were both interesting and tasty and it was the best fruit salad I’d had for a long time.
Outstanding, friendly and accommodating Service. Generous and yummy food. Excellent play area for kids.
Generally good - enthusiastic service & good food. Downsides - not Chardonnay by the glass (but 2 sauvignons!), they didn’t have our reservation (despite) confirmation via open table and it took 3 card machines before one worked!
Lovely beer garden with a boat shaped climbing frame for the kids. Lots of comfortable seating. Food was really nice and will definitely be back.
Just after the England vs Germany game so very quiet. No atmosphere but that was not the restaurants fault. Felt very COVID safe. Service was friendly and the food was good pub food.
Lovely pub lovely surroundings, very comfortable food was outstanding we all had roasts they were delicious would highly recommend
Great to see the Blue Ball back. Good choice of pub food and friendly service.
Very nice birthday meal. Service was attentive and prompt. Food was enjoyed by the whole party.
Lovely restaurant. Great atmosphere. Tables well spaced out and lovely evening ambiance. Friendly helpful staff too. The food was delicious with quick service
Very poor food
Very poor service
Very poor informant of COVID restrictions
Roasts were ok - beef was quite tough and lamb was ok, lacked taste. Gravy, Yorkshire puddings excellent. I liked the potatoes but someone else found them too herby - personal taste! Swede purée needed seasoning. Puddings were good - although personally I prefer sticky toffee sauce not made with treacle now I have had it. Service was good - some staff need to wear their mask over their noses!! Would go again but not necessarily for roast.
Really enjoyed the meal.
One of our glasses of Prosecco was 3/4 full and when I questioned it, the manager rectified it straight away.
Atmosphere is a bit lacking really, maybe it’s a sign of the times and people are worried about making too much noise etc! But just needs a bit of buzz!
Had a lovely time. Food was absolutely delicious, service was quick and the young girl serving us was attentive and friendly. Only down side no espresso martini to finish with.
Firstly we booked a table for six people and were shown to a table for four and informed that they would push a smaller table for two up to it. It looked terrible so we asked if they had a round table for six and they had several so can’t understand why they wanted to sit us elsewhere. The restaurant was also not that full. Secondly we thought that the menu was not very good and most things seemed to be over seasoned. Thirdly when asked about coffees the waitress said that they had no Tia Maria and she didn’t know how to make a “ floater”. We were expecting such a lot more for money we paid.
Lovely pub, menu sounded great, food itself didn’t quite deliver, thai beef salad starter really lacked flavour and monkfish scampi was just ok, but friendly and attentive staff and nice ambiance
Have only tied it at midweek lunch and really enjoyed our time. Would highly recommend
Lovely menu with a good selection. Presentation was very nice and the portions large. The desserts were lovely, something different from the usual offerings in places. They were also presented very well. Plenty of staff, who were attentive and pleasant. Will definitely be going there again.
It’s a shame the food wasn’t better because the setting and staff were lovely. It really average pub food (think Wetherspoons) but priced quite high for the quality.
We turned up on a Sunday at our booking time of 11.30 only to be told there was no food or ordering allowed until 12! We have a young child so the early slot worked well with getting home for nap times! Restaurant didn’t look any different after refurbishment! No menus available and the waiter had no clue where they were! No kids drink available other than an apple juice or orange juice charged at £3.50 in a glass with no straw- not ideal for a 20month old! A round of 4 drinks (3soft 1 beer) came to £17.20 when quaestioned on the price of an apple juice was told I’m just a waiter the prices are nothing to do with me! The staff weren’t rude but need some training on how to deal with customers. Sadly we didn’t fee it was going well and decided to not eat so can’t comment on the food
I came for lunch with a friend and we really enjoyed our food and the service was excellent, I will be booking again soon
Excellent food. Lovely refurb. cant fault it . Highly recommend
Excellent outside dining, sandwiches were just the deal at lunchtime washed down with a couple of pints of Hophead.
Food was amazing service good.
The new harden furniture makes a big difference.
Very comfortable environment could have stayed there all day.
Went here for a birthday celebration as it is local and had been advertised as under new management and refurbished. The refurbishment is very good but the service and quality of food was very disappointing. We were given forks only for our starter and so had to ask for knives, one of our party had to wait for fish and chips when most of us had finished our main, when I asked for the bill I was given it on my way to the WC (rather than having it delivered to the table. The starter was ok but the chicken burger was luke warm and pretty tasteless. Ketchup was delivered in a bottle (why not use individual small pots per person?).
In clearing the table the server managed to drop most of the cutlery on the floor!
Sadly we will not be visiting again.
We enjoyed our visit but felt to use the pub frequently the menu could be a little limited.
Would suggest you need a specials board.
first visit since being under new management - although staff are in training they provided excellent service and the food was fab
Four of us visited for dinner. We all had different things and we all really enjoyed the food. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant and will be going back again.
Manager very rude. We asked if they did a vegetarian option on the roast and very bluntly told our server in our earshot ‘ we serve what is on the menu’
