The BOX on the Water
Beautiful lunch for friends birthday. Sitting outside. The weather was perfect. The food is always excellent. The service could be a tiny bit better. Had to ask for water twice.
Great food, lovely atmosphere and staff were great!
Really enjoyed a birthday lunch with some lady friends. Despite the dismal weather, the location and ambience of the restaurant was excellent – we were still able to look out over the water and enjoy the view. The service was to be commended – we were asked often how are meals were. My chilli garlic prawn entree was particularly delicious! I liked the fact that you could share small or large platters of food – I found this an affordable way to sample different menu items. I would not hesitate to go back there again, perhaps on a sunny day
Read a review of The Box on the Water and drove up that night from Sydney. Just as well we booked! It was packed - obviously everyone has heard about it! But there isn't a bad seat in the house - water views regardless of where you are placed. Wonderful ambience, friendly but professional service, and a menu full of things we wanted to try. Will definitely be back. Can't wait in fact!
We hadn't been to the Box before, but had heard a lot about it.. The position is stunning, the waitress was excellent, my cocktail and food (the special was exceptional) and generally relaxed atmosphere. It obviously gets very busy, however we didn't arrive till 2.30 so it was quieter.
Great table with great view and good food and service. Thanks
Great food! Great service A+ The view is uninterrupted and food was very good.
Beautiful location. Lovely comfortable restaurant with very pleasant and professional staff. Good variety of food on the menu and food delicious. Very small, downside - it can be quite noisy at times.
We have dined at The Box on the water many times during the last 5 years. We usually meet friend who use the Ferry from Palm Beach. We are retired so dine on a weekday so that it is less busy.
We last dined on Wednesday 19th February for lunch. It was busier than our previous visits consequently very noisy as we are all retirees we found it hard to hear each other. This is due to all the hard surfaces.
The staff are friendly and professional. We normally delight in dining at Box on the water. Perhaps some soft furnishings would help.
Service was great but our mains were very average . Steak was very undercooked and my chicken had no flavour and dry. Also serving size very small for price charged
The food was good but 2 of us did not get our coffees, had to let the waiter now that our coffees never came.
Enjoyed the beautiful location. The staff were friendly and attentive and the degustation menu was excellent
Amazing food. Excellent service.
2nd time at this lovely restaurant but even though the food was excellent and the staff were courteous efficient and friendly the weather was diabolical
We arrived late due to holdups on the road
We had rung ahead so staff knew we were enroute
But there were many cancellations so only a few managed to battle the storms
Even though there were several puddles on the floor and impossible to see the spectacular view , the upbeat staff worked very hard to make sure we once again had a superb meal under difficult circumstances
Well done !!
We have dined many times at the box and we’re disappointed in the food this time which has never happened. It just was not up to the standard that I have enjoyed in the past. The Mains were basic and desserts especially summer pudding and chocolate tart ( which was like a brownie) where not worth the $$$$ The wait staff were lovely and helpful. Food not so.
The food was great with a variety of options and serving sizes excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly.
The Box is ideal for any occasion and we have enjoyed lunch and dinner and every time is enjoyable and great value. Steve and Paola
We had seafood platter & it was excellent very little fried food which was great ,we really enjoyed it
Good food - we had the seafood platter for two and one dessert to share - really good wine selection, always wonderful Mira. Not full so reasonably quiet.
Good food, great location on the water. Nice facilities.
Lovely atmosphere, lovely staff, helped to accommodate a pram, food divine. No proper baby change area.
The food was great and wonderfully presented. Only negative was the question around the amount of mustard on the burger and it was a bit dry. But other than that food was 10/10.
Service was fairly good until our food was served and then our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us - left our dirty plates until the got the bill, no offers for other drinks and/or dessert.
Ambiance was good and the views are of course always great!
I also felt that the reception could have been a bit friendlier and more welcoming.
Nonetheless would recommend to others and be back myself
We first went to Box on the Water 2 years ago and enjoyed it so much we went back. We’re from Brisbane....otherwise we’d be there more often! 😊
I had my birthday lunch there on January 25th 2020. The food was outstanding. The staff were lovely and was a hot day so all the sliding doors to the beach were open. Will definitely be back.
Cheers Joanna O'Donnell
Great spot. Breezy table. Food was very good in small servings.
Waitress was great and did so well for such a large group 12 pax, was a shame that you were 2 short of the ribs, drink service very very very slow!
But like always great experience and amazing food
We went to The Box on the Water for date night and it was absolutely perfect. The view was excellent, the food magnificent and the waitresses were lovely. A terrific place to go on the Coast with a relaxed atmosphere and easy parking. Beautiful.
The location is first-class. The menu is interesting and provides for most tastes. Prices for lunch were up there. Ideal for a special celebration.
Your staff are not very well trained reaching across in front of customers not very enthusiastic.not very friendly.Food was good a little over priced for the amount of food and such a noisy venue.
Beautiful food & location. Service was fantastic. Definitely going back.
The seafood was delicious, the location beautiful and the service was wonderful. We had the best waiter... friendly, informative and funny.
Great service, lovely food, excellent wine recommendation (Margan Semillon)....and easy to make and change booking.
The food was exceptional, we had the seafood platter the potted trout was tasty and I scraped every last morsel. The mussels were perfectly matched with a red Italian sauce and the salmon expertly seasoned. We experienced great service from all staff. The pickled celery was a damn lovely suprise and the Brié from the Hunter Valley was the creamiest I’ve ever tasted!!
Awesome place with great views too, food was great and reasonably priced
Service, food and the staff were all 5+star’s will be back soon 😍😍
A very pleasant evening. Excellent service and food. Only downside was that it was very noisy. Will pick a week day next time.
I would recommend for a special event as the location and water views are great. The food was good but very expensive
This is usually our go to restaurant in the area but we were sadly disappointed by our last visit. We were sat next to a very noisy party of 12. The side glass doors were opened and the wind was howling. My partner lost half of her salad to the floor because of the wind which she did not mind as it was completely over seasoned with salt. My fish was overcooked. The waitress frowned at me for ordering a wine she could not pronounce. For a birthday celebration it wax a real let down.
Met up with our Sydney friend's for a 'Christmas Get-together'!!
We all enjoyed the delicious food, beautiful water views and all the
staff were so friendly and looked after us attentively.
Score out of 10, would have to say an 11.
If you haven't been there, you're missing out!!! ;)
Beautiful Day, clear skies and lovely view. Mixed bag with food to be honest. Anise flavour in the Dukka wasn't expected or liked by all 4 who tried it, the Pomegranate Molasses in the extra virgin olive oil was overpowering as well. Last year a varied and interesting cold platter that had an abundance of varied seafood, this time paid for 3 to share a Platter at $45 a head, it looked like a platter for 2, definitely feeling short changed if that was meant for 3. Faring a little better in my decision to have 3 "Small Plates" of Whitebait then Sardines and Charred Octopus which I couldn't fault. At the end of the day for some the platter would have been a light lunch time meal for 2, but in this case one of the bigger eaters had to share half a Wagyu burger to "top up" from one of our group. Wait staff were attentive and pleasant.
