The Butcher Shop
I like this place and I’ve been many times. Tonight I really found the portion sizes to be too small. The tagliatelle is delicious but it’s just not enough for an entree.
Incredible experience! We loved the Strip Loin and Wagyu steaks
10/10 always. Even with some modifications due to covid the experience was amazing for our anniversary. Small and intimate but the quality of a major steak house.
Good food, good service
Great ambiance. Great food. Great wine. What else do you need?
Phenomenal food. The sopressini with crispy garlic and mushrooms was savory and delicious and the wagyu sirloin was absolutely perfectly cooked. Will be returning sooner rather than later.
I always like the Butcher Shop, was the go place for many yrs. With the pandemic been trying to give local restaurants business, even though at times not very comfortable going out to dinner. When I arrived I was surprised to see in the menu the 1 hr 15m time limit for a table for 2. How is one supposed to drink a bottle of wine in less than an hour when it took at least 20 minutes to place our order??? I understand that during these times one can 'not longer' hang out as used to (with the limited # of outside seats). However there is a way to politely encourage customers to rap-up the dinner vs. just stating "your time is up, you just exceeded the limit at the table" and then walk away. We had just finished our dinner and would have been happy to rap-up. Just the way it was handled did not leave me with the desire to go back again anytime soon. Perhaps, the same could have been accomplished by the hostess by handling the situation a bit different with just using different words and showing a bit more of sympathy!
The service was great. The food was not. We had the bologneae which was tasteless. We had the sirloin which was tough and overcooked. The meat may as well have come from Walmart and then it I was overcooked. The food was beyond disappointing.
I've been before and enjoyed t tough to come back. Covid does make service a challenge, but the outside tables were just fine. Good food and an extensive and reasonable wine list are the reasons to go. Limited offerings now, but enough to make anyone happy.
I loved it. Unreal burger. We did burgers and sausage plate to share first and then the rib eye. Great bar and wine selection
Not what The Butcher Shop used to be - service mediocre, food below average, not enjoyable...
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. It was drizzling out and our reservation was for outside. All the tables had umbrellas except for ours (including one table that had two). When we arrived the first thing stated was your table is outside, but we don’t have an umbrella for you. I was visibly disappointed but asked if there were any open tables inside or if there was a later reservation and we could just come back then. The hostess said no and basically you can eat at this table or leave. I had to ask that the table be wiped down, which she did. After we had sat there for a while, the hostess did bring an umbrella over for us. I appreciate that she ended up figuring something out for us, but I would have appreciated a kinder, apologetic tone. Honestly if the tone was different and we didn’t have an umbrella, I would have left a better review. Also our waitress seemed nervous and didn’t check on drinks. It felt like a very mechanical process to go out. I probably won’t be going back to this restaurant.
Food was phenomenal! Staff was so wonderful and attentive. Very wonderful experience here.
We loved the ambiance and wine selection. We ordered the cheese board and sausage board, cheese board was very good, sausage board was mediocre at best. However, our experience was mostly ruined by this “Karen” who was our waitress. Her attitude came across like she she did not want to be at work. You’re welcome does not appear to be in her vocabulary nor did she sound like she had the ability to be pleasant. Unfortunately this put a damper on our experience there but the cheese was good.
Tasty food and friendly staff. Would come here everyday if I could!
It was an amazing experience meal! And the staff were all so sweet and fast!
Great bistro, great neighborhood restaurant
First time & everything was great! Will recommend/ cone again !
So glad to be dining at Butcher Shop again. The service was excellent and the food was amazing.
I was very happy with our experience, and the waitress was attentive even when the restaurant was slammed.
It was a Sunday, but still I expected a more vibrant vibe. The service was very lackluster- waiters were low energy, didn’t bring spoons with soup, didn’t offer bread or crackers with pate, etc. also they didn’t have mocktails or much non alcoholic options - a disappointed experience
Food was amazing. Our waitress was great too, but it seemed like there were 2-3 people working our table throughout our visit. It seemed like our waitress may have been overwhelmed. We had longer than normal waits for things. We weren’t in a ru h so it was ok, but for the money it’d be awesome to have the service match the food.
Server didn’t want to engage at all when we asked her questions about the menu and seemed annoyed but food was delicious. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to have a huge block of wood in the middle of the restaurant when you’ve already had many reviewers comment on the tight space. Otherwise a very cozy aesthetic, not good for a group but perfect for a date night
The Butcher lived up my expectations based on their website. It was a fabulous local restaurant with friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. It was a great venue for the group I was with but I believe I would have had an equally great time sitting at the bar solo.
The Ribeye changed my life. It was perfect. The foie gras was also delicious, but incredibly sweet. We joked that it would be better as a dessert than an appetizer.
Absolutely love this place. Great wine list. Interesting menu (plenty of choices for non-meat eaters like me, despite the name of the place), and top-notch food preparation. Cheese selection is also terrific. Portions are a bit small for the prices charged, but all in, quality reigns. And the servers are personable and efficient. 5 stars.
Wanted to try a new place in the south end - was recommended this place by coworkers. Great food and ambiance, a little pricy and small portions but overall great experience. Awesome cocktails!
Food is not as good as it used to be. I put in the notes that it’s our anniversary. I don’t think our waitress was even aware.
Everything was wonderful as always
Excellent service and food; not enough space. The restaurant is small and our table was not big enough for the three of us.
Pros: Nice atmosphere and food is typically good. Wide selection of Barbera wine.
Cons: Expensive (Chicken $36, for example) Caesar-like salad w/ Italian kale was mediocre and small ($18).
It was great! Love the steak tar tar, it’s my go to!
Always an excellent meal. Save your money and go. This place is a treat!
Lovely dinner. Great service.
We came here for an early New Year’s Eve dinner (5:45) and left disappointed. The service was atrocious—rushed courses and a lot of service misses. We were rushed through the entire dinner. We ordered the “large” charcuterie board with the foie gras supplement and told the server we would order our mains when it arrived. She immediately told us that we should order before that “because the kitchen gets busy.” The restaurant wasn’t even half full at the time. We followed her advice and ordered mains a few minutes later. The large charcuterie board came almost immediately. It really wasn’t that large and it arrived without the foie gras. We reminded her about the foie gras, which ended up arriving about 30 seconds before our mains. Adjacent tables were having similar problems with missed orders—two tables were joking with each other about it. The moment that either I or my partner finished a plate or a glass, the server swooped in to take it away (at this price point, you wait for the table to finish a course before whisking the plates away). The moment my partner took the last bite of his main, she took away the plate and handed us the dessert menu. She looked annoyed when I ordered tea, and she handed us the bill the moment she took away the last dessert plate. My credit card didn’t even hit the table before she grabbed it and rushed off! The food itself was excellent, but way overpriced! The $20 foie gras supplement had about a rounded tablespoon of the stuff. That, combined with the bad service and cramped seating made for an unforgettable night, but only in the worse way.
This might have been the worst steak or meat restaurant I have ever been to. I should have left upon talking to the waitress that was very unhappy uninterested on any of my questions or request for recommendations. The food was horrible, service was even worst, I recommend you do not go here.
Fantastic food and great service! Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine and provided a great recommendation. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation or be prepared to wait for a table / seat at the bar.
As always, the food
We absolutely loved the wine they paired with our steak. What a great experience!
We went for dinner early on Saturday evening (6:00 pm). They were very accommodating with changing reservation from 5:15 to 6:00 and from 3 to 4 people. However, the table we had was very small for dinner, even for just 3 people.
The food was just okay. One person had the duck, it was so fatty, the waitress took it back and they removed it from the bill, they even added a special dessert. My sirloin was delicious but also fatty.
It could have been an off night but we certainly appreciated their apologies.
The food and wine are pricey. We will try once more to see if the quality is better.
