The Charmant Restaurant
Excellent food and service. Will be back again when in LaCrosse.
Best French toast ever. Real maple syrup. Get a side order at the very keast!
There was live music so it was a louder atmosphere than some times I've visited but we enjoyed the music so it was no problem. Biggest complaint is the sun shining in my eyes but they do employ tactics to mitigate the severity and it didn't last long. Delicious food that never disappoints.
Our meal was wonderful.
Our drinks left something to be desired....my boyfriend's Old Fashion was not good at all and I was given a Mojito with black mint leaves. Both were taken care of by our waiter after we complained, but honestly the Mojito should've never even made it to the table.
If our server would have treated us with more respect our review would have been better.
Food was mostly good. Steak frites were incredibly salty. Lamb lollipops were good. Our server seemed a little nervous and like he was running a few more tables than he should have been, but he was nice and doing his best so can’t fault him. Overall, I would recommend the charmant but I think this visit could certainly been improved upon.
Stayed overnight in the Charmant Hotel and had dinner in the restaurant. Shared a nice heirloom tomato salad to start and my wife and I both had the steak au poivre for dinner with a side of pommes frites with garlic aioli. Everything was prepared perfectly, exceptional steaks. Server was very attentive and additional staff was very helpful. Unfortunately too full for dessert but judging by how good the chocolate croissants were in the hotel coffee shop the following morning, I am sure all of the desserts/bakery are great.
We love this place. The other night we were in the mood for meat (not a usual occurrence), so my husband ordered the filet au poivre, and I had the chef's burger. Both were delicious -- my husband couldn't stop raving about his!
We always enjoy brunch at Charmant, the food is fresh and love the variety of drinks. My husband enjoys their bloody Mary's and I love a cup of frothy cappuccino. A warm atmosphere with great views.
Had a great server, very attentive and engaging. He made suggestions for me when asked and he couldn’t have paired a better choice for me. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. Great job, Charmant.
The variety was wanting. The menu said they sourced locally. When I asked where they got their lamb, the answer was New Zealand. I wondered about that, because there are excellent organic lamb producers within a 25 mile radius. My husband thought the lamb dish was excellent though. All I could find o. The menu I wanted was the house pasta. It was great, but I would have liked more choices.
Great and atmosphere and great food. Our service was exceptional. It was the perfect place for a casual dinner date.
I love the way they kept the character of the building intact . Our server was excellent. The linguini was delicious . It was a lovely way to celebrate our anniversary.
We came to La Crosse on a college visit with our daughter and wanted a special dinner experience. The food was outstanding. The space is beautiful, incorporating many aspects of the original candy factory, not to mention a stunning view of the river and park. The service was very good, especially given that the servers were college students. The speciality cocktails were delicious. My bourbon-fanatic husband loved the bourbon menu and had an outstanding Old Fashioned that I, a whiskey-hater, enjoyed. Even the bathrooms were gorgeous. We would definitely eat here again and will likely stay at the hotel, too.
The Charmant sources its ingredients from local farmers, and it makes a BIG difference: fresh, flavorful, amazing. I had the beef carpacchio as a starter, and the linguini with fresh vegetables for a main, and both were outstanding - rich flavors, great textures, sauce just right, herbs and seasonings perfect. Good wine list too. I'll be eating there again for sure.
Charming Restaurant located in a recently refurbished building with boutique hotel. Good lunch choices, awesome decor and a super helpful server a accommodating specific food allergies and giving us some quick tourist tips.
Excellent food and the service and ambiance can't be beat!
While the drinks from the bar were quite good, and I quite enjoyed the side dish of Brussels sprouts, my linguine entree was, simply put, the single worst plate of food I've ever been served at a restaurant. Given the moderate expense of the restaurant, I was shocked at the low quality of this dish. The pasta itself was fresh pasta that was either improperly made or way, way overcooked. It arrived as a gloop that barely held together. The sauce was incredibly bland and turned to a sort of slime due to the pasty nature of the overcooked pasta. I should have just sent it back immediately since they cannot send out food like that. But, and I do realize this was my mistake, I soldiered on thinking that maybe it was just me. I gave a bite to my dining partner and the look on his face confirmed that I was right. I stopped eating right there with a half-eaten dish. My appetite was just gone by then. Later I did inform the server and he graciously took the pasta off our bill. But really the damage was done -- I could not eat any more.
Since we were staying at the hotel (which is a total gem, and I highly recommend it), we had breakfast at the restaurant in the morning. I thought I couldn't go wrong with avocado toast, but the avocado was totally underripe and the toast was completely dry white bread (ostensibly sourdough, but way too bland a version).
So, my recommendation is this: do stay at the hotel, have a drink at the bar (or the rooftop lounge), and then go literally anywhere else to eat.
I'd like to see something other than french fries offered with a sandwich, rather than a $3 charge for a tiny salad or a tiny cup of fruit. Overall, it was a pleasant meal
Food was great and Service was too
We enjoy fresh and quality food prepared by a Chef. It is clean, great service, full bar and great coffees.
You can not find any other place like this in the area. It wonderful at the Charmant.
Trout dinner was superb, exquisitely prepared: the tartar sauce, thyme placed under the skin, mushrooms. Side of Brussels sprouts with duck confit was as good as it gets. Scallops on the strawberry salad just perfect. We did not have room for the profiteroles, must go back soon.
While the service is typically hit and miss (with mostly hits) the food is not.
We enjoy brunch at least once week were after church services!
This was our second visit to The Charmant’s restaurant in 30 days. Same wonderful experience as earlier!
We sat at the chef's counter and enjoyed the staff
Food was very good. However the drinks were over priced. We had a Bloody Mary. The mix was $8.50 and the vodka was $2.50. And not that good. Service needs to be improved.
Lovely atmosphere and food. Great location to catch up with friends in a relaxed yet classy environment. Great location. Would go back.
The Charmint was delicious! Atmosphere and staff welcoming yet sophisticated. Would recommend highly.
The food was quite good. The lamb was as good as I have ever had. Adam did a fantastic job serving us. Definitely will return.
My husband and I went to the Charmant to celebrate a milestone in his health recovery. While we enjoy the Waterfront I decided to try the Charmant for a change of venue. The food was good but some things were quite disappointing. We ordered the cheese tray as that is our favorite appetizer at the Waterfront but it was quite sparse compared to what we were used to. The most concerning aspect of our evening was when our food was delivered. My salad and his soup were served at the same time as our main entrees! The food was delicious but our main entrees were quite cooled by the time we finished our soup or salad. We each also ordered a dessert which was delicious. For the money, if you want a quiet, attentive evening out try the Waterfront.
One of the finest restaurants in La Crosse. Has a great ambiance. Terrific service and delectable food. It's become one of my go to places in the city. Highly recommend checking out! Plus, it contains one of the only roof-top bars in the city and in the area.
Restaurant was not busy at all, just one great server for entire section, he was kind to explain the delay on the service. Drinks were really good Jonathan the bartender on turn its a lots of fun and he actually create a great drink. Food was good but overpriced in regards to the portions especially the rack of lamb 4 very small bones for $40.00 Oh ! well we decided to dine the next day at the sister restaurant The Waterfront that is always great in comparison to Charmant.
Birthday breakfast- best in town !!
I ordered the Strawberry salad and a mojito. It was delicious
This is the hotel's restaurant with a view of the river. The ambiance is done with an eye toward the fact that the building was an old candy factory and is nicely done. The service was efficient and friendly and the waiter made suggestions on the best dishes for the evening. He even talked me into trying the cheese curds when I asked what they were?
We also had breakfast here the next morning and had corn pancakes that were delicious !
We love the Charmont, as its unique atmosphere and food are a nice change from the usual restaurant.
I had asked for a quiet area to be seated when I made the reservation. Upon arrival we were taken to a table in the middle of the restaurant, so I needed to ask for a more quiet table. The hostess wore a dress that was inappropriately revealing. It seemed tacky for such an expensive and classy restaurant.
We visited The Charmant while in town for a State Track Meet. As we had just returned from five days of delicious meals in Washington, D.C., we weren’t expecting to be so wowed by The Charmant! The restaurant reflects the hotel’s unique blend of historic and hip accented with a dash of French flair. The view was lovely as the windows overlooked La Crosse’s Riverside Park, which is located on the banks of the Mississippi River. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. I would definitely recommend the Farmer’s Greens salad (especially for fennel lovers) and the sous vide chicken breast. The price point was Midwestern moderate- a pleasant surprise!
The entree preparation was average, appetizer and dessert were exceptional, the service was outstanding.
