This is a regular outing for us with friends. We love the setting and always enjoy the quality of the food and service. A bit more expensive tha some of our other pubs and restaurants but we always feel it has been worth it.
Great food and atmosphere
Really enjoyed our evening. My only gripe was they had run out of one of the starters so early in the evening.
I went to this pub with my wife for a Sunday roast lunch. The food was good as was the friendly and courteous service excepting they had to be reminded to bring the vegetables and a side dish after serving the main part of the meal.
All dishes are prepared and cooked on thee premises to include the baking of all bead to include gluten free bread. Sadly for my wife, a Coeliac they have not mastered gluten free Yorkshire pudding and strangely can't make Gluten Free cauliflour cheese unlike local compitors who make such on the premises. The pub is perfect if you do not have a gluten allergy and pretty good if you do. We did not eat desert so cannot comment on that. Mycwidf did enjoy a start course of Gluten Free soup though.
A good dining venue.
Food was quite slow. Everything else was delightful
I came hear a few years ago just for drinks and saw the food and really wanted to come back and dine but never too the opportunity until last night.
It was a very nice experience over all, straight away we got seated right next to another couple when the place was relatively empty but the waitress kindly moved us to a place where there was a bit more of a buffer between people. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the place was well lit and the meal was very nice, however I think they could have provided a better variety of salad to go with my steak.
Over all I would definitely consider coming back for a meal.
First, special praise for the Sizzling King Prawn starter - a real delight.
Service was excellent - a great improvement on my last visit.
And the open-fire atmosphere was welcome in an extremely wet day.
Fabulous food and really lovely waitresses. What more could you ask for!
All round excellent.
Christmas meal - Unfortunately everyone at the meal thought their food was warmed up and chewy. The cheese desert was minimal and apple powdery. Ice cream not nice and overpriced. Not value for money. Disappointed all round and surprised by Chequers. Sad to write this but feel it needs feeding back as it wasn’t just one persons view.
Good pub food in a nice environment. Staff were very courteous.
Lovely food, good service - shame it was so quiet ( for them)
Absolutely outstanding food, cannot wait to return.
Amazing food great service, very happy helpful knowledgeable about their food and wine menu and great atmosphere
Chequers made a great setting for a bit of a reunion. Great service, good food and comfortable surroundings. Recommended for when you want to focus on your friends safe in the knowledge that everything else is well covered by the staff.
The booking went through smoothly and our group was accommodated at a table that worked well for a toddler and a newborn. The restaurant was very nice and we were sat in the conservatory area so it was lovely and warm and bright. I did however find it hard to find something I wanted on the menu and when I eventually chose the Fish Deli board, I was a little disheartened to find that everything on it was very tasteless, and it was only the sauces they came with that made them slightly more interesting.
Unfortunately, I don't think I would go back again for food as I found the menu to be quite pricey. The outside area for a drink would be nice however on a warm summer's day.
Dreadful from start to finish.
Such a shame.
It was good here once upon a time.
I won’t be returning and would recommend avoidance.
After various mishaps at the Chequers it has improved by 80% and was enjoyable with great service and a good Sunday Lunch. Well done Tom.
What a terrible meal. The food was awful . Salmon hard potatoes hard veggie offer dry and not tasty. Service poor . No apologies for poor food. It used to be great but the decline is very noticeable. None of the staff had a good manner and were not on the ball at all .
Puddings undercooked, if tasty still. Quite a lot of money for what it is.
Christmas catch up with friends. Great food and a lovely setting. Really good afternoon/evening
The food was not as good as normal, it felt as though we were getting food that was not cooked fresh. I had two small slices of beef that looked more as they were sitting on top of a roast potato, usually it is a good pile of meat but we had been warned that two of the roast meats were running out, so this could be why. Also service was not too great as I had to ask for a knife 3 times and we weren’t offered any sauces with our meals. Coffees were lukewarm.
We had no choice but to pay service as there were 6 of us.
The occasion was that we take 4 of our relatives to a carol concert and then out for a meal afterwards instead of a Christmas present. This is the third year we had chosen The Chequers for the venue but we will probably try elsewhere next year.
Poor service from start to finish for a Saturday night it. Disorganised, didn’t have the good we wanted, drinks were wrongly ordered and badly made. Real shame as lovely venue. Much nicer restaurant a minute down which I shall stick to In the future!
The young lady that served us was lovely and very helpful. The food was great.
Poor food served tonight. Fish had bones the whole way through
Great food and atmosphere for a Sunday lunch. I had asked for a wheelchair friendly table and was welcomed and taken straight to the table to ensure it was OK for our party. Friendly staff and a good all round experience.
Constantly hitting 5* with their food, service & ambience. Never disappointed.
Food was lovely but we had to move as a large party descended next to us as they were very noisy - however they moved us professionally and courtestly
Booked for weekend breakfast. Tasty food and good ambiance but stingy portions left us little disappointed and hungry
Firstly they didn’t have s kids menu which was surprising considering it’s supposed to be child friendly! It was a long time waiting on our main meals and when the sides arrived it was 1x dish short as they had runout and failed to mention this before taking our orders😬! We must have had at least two servers pass our table and never once asked how was our meal and had to ask twice to place a ice cream order for our daughter! Won’t be hurrying back there..poor service!
Great service from the fantastic local pub. It was our anniversary, and the Restaurant staff were simply excellent. We had a lovely evening.
Well worth visiting.
This used to be one of my go to places to get a good bistro quality meal in a nice pub type atmosphere. Unfortunately since the last manager has left the meal quality has declined. I've tried over the last three months or so to give it the benefit of the doubt, but last Sunday evening was the last trip until I see better reviews before I return. We had the Sunday roast where the meat was dry and over cooked, the spuds were well past their shelf life being very dry, and the cauliflower cheese extra side portions had clearly been re-heated as they were congealed and rather grey looking.
This place used to be very busy, but on Sunday there were only three tables inside being used, very much proving that this place needs to pull it's socks up in my opinion to regain the customer trust. Sorry....
Great menu and lunch with friends on a Sunday. Lovely setting with nice patio at the front for coffee after lunch.
We have eaten here on many occasions for lunch and evening meals , usually service is excellent. However Saturday evening was shocking we waited over 1 hour 30 mins for are food . Most of the waiting staff didn't seem to be overly concerned we weren't offered more drinks or told of a possible delay. Eventually we were given bread with garic butter and olives ( neither of which I can eat ) as an apology for the wait . It was so disappointing.
Very disappointed as visit the Chequers regularly however the food was not up to its usual standard, service was very slow and it lacked the friendly happy atmosphere normally present! It was a family gathering and spoilt our celebration with everyone saying they would rather go elsewhere next time!
Attended for an anniversary dinner and were met with a list of unavailable menu choices. When trying to place an order two following times we were told that a new option was unavailable each time. Overall the amount of food stocked seemed to be terribly judged and it meant that a third of the menu was unavailable!
THE CHEQUERS WAS A VERY GOOD PLACE TO GO BUT YOU HAVE LET ME DOWN ,THEY HAD NO BOOKING FOR ME FROM YOU ,WAS NOT HAPPY AT THAT .THANKS
Always a lovely meal out, really great food & good value in a lovely ambience
Normally a very good restaurant to go to, but the last time I visited it must have been an off day in the kitchen. The wrong meal was supplied and the replacement was slightly under-cooked fish. They did make amends by providing a free puds, but it was a little below par from the usual.
