The Choice - B.Y.O.B
Excellent food .. nice atmosphere .. the chefs sons were adorable!
Best restaurant in the area. Food and service are amazing! You won’t be disappointed!
The Choice continues to be an exceptional quality consistent restaurant in the Mainline. The veal chop was superbly prepared, with two choices of accompanying delicious sauces and the most wonderful potatoes. We also tried the Canton duck, another exceptional entree. We can’t return to sample more of the talented chef’s cuisine.
It was nice to find a restaurant open on a Monday night. We liked the menu and decided to give it a try. Our server was very nice and attentive. Our food, on the other hand, was disappointing across the board.
My starter, scallops wrapped in shredded filo dough could fairly be described as scallops wrapped in shredded wheat. It tasted great but the wrap was annoying, much of it falling to the table and creating a mess. My entree, spare ribs in a bed of mashed potatoes, one of my favorites, lacked texture. The meat was mushy and the gravy had a burn aftertaste. My wife chose not finish her sea bass.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner on. Friday night. The ambience is great and the decor inside really reminds you of an European cafe. The staff was super professional and very friendly. They gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and decide what to get. We ordered the duck confit salad to share, which was really good! The duck was cooked really well and flavorful. The salad wasn't drowned in dressing so you could actually taste everything. It was a bit sweet for our taste but overall still a good dish. For entrees, my husband got the short rib and I got the wild caught sea bass wrapped in potato with creamed leek and red sauce. My husband liked the short rib but thought the portion was a bit small. I really didn't like my sea bass. The whole fish was wildly under seasoned and the creamed leek/red wine sauce mixture really didn't go well with the fish. It also had a weird texture, which made it difficult to eat. Overall, I really liked the place itself but the food was disappointing even though we had to pay a decent amount. I would recommend for someone who wants to try new things and maybe order something that's not a sea bass?
This is such a gem! The chef easily accommodated a food allergy. There menu has a wide array of choices. The foie gras was lovely and delicate serve with brioche, fig and nectarines. The tuna tartare was also amazing with finely diced avocado, micro greens and handmade chips. We also tried the beet carpaccio with goat cheese- the beets were beautifully sliced and served with delicate and tangy quenelles of goat cheese. The halibut almandine did not disappoint! Again, the chef executed a delicate hand with the preparation accompanied by a beautiful lemon butter sauce on the side. Our server was gracious, knowledgeable about the menu and very accommodating. We will be back!
Lovely time. Food great. We weren’t rushed.
Excellent dinner and nice ambience
This was my first visit to The Choice, recommended by my friend and dining partner.
The menu had so many exquisite food choices. I wanted to taste everything, which I only had that pleasure a few times. Our server could not have been more patient, b/c, I had a difficult time deciding what to order. It was a lovely relaxing dining experience and will certainly return many times. BYOB
Excellent experience! Lovely attentive and professional service. Exceptional food- delicious and beautifully presented. Will definitely be back!
The food is always delicious and beautifully presented. The waitstaff is very nice and accommodating.
This restaurant is truly a hidden gem on the mainline. Can’t believe we’ve not been there before. The atmosphere is simple and casual, small restaurant, fresh flowers on the table. Not pretentious at all.
This was the first time for all of us. We want to go back again this week …it was so good! We went with some friend and tried 5 different appetizers (all were fantastic) and our entrees were incredible. Standouts: yellowtail sashimi, chicken pate, seafood soup snd octopus were fabulous! The presentation is beautiful snd the food is some of the best if not the best on the mainline. The Chilean sea bass with truffle sauce and the veal tomahawk both were delicious. Everything is homemade, with such incredible flavors. I’ve been dieting and would have passed on dessert, but we had to try since everything else was so good. The apple pie with vanilla Ice cream and molten chocolate are a must. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife- he is the chef, she waits on tables. The service was fantastic. This is our new favorite place - it’s BYOB too. We eat out a lot on the mainline and in the city. This charming little restaurant should be in your list to try if you have not
We sat outside. The inside seemed a bit dark on a beautiful summer evening. The food was wonderful. Duck done perfectly. Service was the best I've had recently in these post pandemic times. The entrée prices were a bit high, but I'm glad to pay if that ensures excellent service.
The previous time we ate at this restaurant was in early 2020 just before the start of the pandemic. At that time we were very impressed by the food. Now, more than a year later we returned and were absolutely blown away by how good the food is at this restaurant. I had the sea bass and my dining partner had the duck, both dishes were delicious. The food at The Choice is easily as good as any of the better restaurants found in the city . Needless to say we’ll be returning again very soon.
Our dinners were excellent. Great presentation from the chef and staff. Highly recommend going if you can.
Excellent food. Quiet plain atmosphere. Would dine there again.
Celebrating a friends 61st Birthday and no more intimate restaurant with delicious food and wonderful service. Appetizer? Liver pate! Main Course? Duck! Rolls? 3 baskets!
Dessert? A candle in the ice cream! All low key and certainly will return.
We were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! We ordered the duck and the fish and were both blown away by both the quality of the food and the preparation. We will definitely be back!
A very fine small charming Byob. Quiet. Interesting menu , Fish seems to predominate, fish soup not to be missed.
Best restaurant on the Main Line and possibly the best restaurant in all of Philadelphia. Great, creative chef and wonderful friendly service.
Love this place- great atmosphere, service and eclectic menu. There is something for everyone on the menu - flavors are incredible.
Extensive menu. We both totally enjoyed food, service and ambience.
A nice, quiet BYO for special occasions.
Excellent food and service….
our new favorite restaurant. the food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
First visit - we'll be back. Menu is deep enough to please most, despite the small size of the restaurant. Presentation is elegant, and the quality of the food is quite fine. Everything was exactly as the menu described it, and all 4 of us enjoyed every bite. Our friends started with soft shell crabs, while my wife and I chose the beet root carpaccio and the snapper ceviche - all were very satisfying. Our friends each chose one of the bass options, Chilean for him and striped for her. My wife had the second prep of the striped bass, and all fish were found pleasing and ample in size. I tried the New Zealand lamb chops, which were beautiful although quite small and a bit less tender than I'd hoped. In fairness, they were very reasonably priced and there were 3 on the plate.....and I did eat everything but the bone! We each had a sorbet for dessert. I don't know who supplies it, but it was rish, cremy and delicious. So as I said, we'll be back.
The dining experience is always exceptional, the food delicious and the family-owned nature of this eatery makes all the difference.
Excellent restaurant. This was our second time there and it was just as great as the first time. Excellent service and the food is out of this world! Would highly recommend it!
Mothers Day! Every mom got a rose when they left. The food, as always, was excellent and elegant. The owner’s son and God Son, both who looked about 14-15 years old were helping to wait tables. Why? Because normal help are making more on Biden’s unemployment and would rather stay home than go back to work. But this didn’t deter the owners of this small restaurant to provide top notch, high end cuisine in a warm and professional setting. Kudos to THE CHOICE! I applaud you! You made my Mother’s Day so special!!!
Really nice spot: kind and attentive service and thoughtful food. Some dishes were absolute knockouts (duck canton, soft shell crab, sea bass with truffle sauce—WOW) while others were only fine (stewed leeks, bass with potato). However, overall a delightful experience.
Great food, the lamb chops turned out to be the biggest winner in our table. 👍
A work colleague and I had an early (5:30 pm) dinner at The Choice earlier this week. Very limited seating outdoors - 2 tables along Route 30, Lancaster Avenue, so we elected to eat inside as no one was there at this time. The Choice is very nice inside with plenty of room between the tables. The salads we had were excellent and the entrees were also very good. The service at The Choice was prompt and quick. Overall, we had an enjoyable meal and the BYOB aspect definitely made it even better.
Excellent food! Will be back!
Great experience as always. Wonderful prep of food and taste development. Always a enjoyable experience
10 Star, my favorite go to for special occasions or for a Friday night after a long week.
Amazing food and a great menu. The service was excellent. Lots of space between tables. Will definitely be back soon. Love the Tuna tartar salad. Snapper with mushrooms was amazing as well. Even the desserts were great. The waitress was very nice and really knew how to provide great service without disrupting a meal.
It was our first visit and we were very impressed with all aspects of dining. The ambience was modern and cozy. The service was very nice, efficient and attentive. The taste of the food was AMAZING ( we ordered Burrata and Beet Carpaccio for appetizers (and received a little introductory compliment from the kitchen which was VERY YUMMY! thank you so much!), Duck and Chilean Seabass with miso sauce and Apple Pie for dessert. Every dish was VERY tasty and had their own unique flavor. Dishes were big in portion size and beautifully presented. Our waitress Irina had nice and warm attitude and was very helpful in recommending good match of sides to the dishes. Price wise it's very adequate to the quality of the food and service. And saving on the BYOB option is also helpful : ). The whole experience was very impressive.
We were visiting the area and unfortunately can't enjoy this place as often as we'd like to, but every time we come back we'll definitely be here for sure and recommend everyone to visit this wonderful place. Thank you so much for a wonderful dinner!
This is a great spot. The food is good and creative. The service was great. I would highly recommend!
Wonderful food as usual!
There is no better BYOBin the Western Suburbs. The fish entres are superb
Best restaurant I’ve been thus far this year hands down... and I am a chef
