The Commons Cafe
lovely place for lunch in the new museum - was a little cold for comfort but overall a great experience.
There were no specials left when we arrived for reserved table at 2:30. Steak sandwich was very good but needed a much sharper knife. The toasted bread in it could not be cut and made a large mess on table and floor as pieces of it went flying in effort to slice into it. I would like to try dessert here but the portion sizes are far too big. I also wish the menu was more varied and larger. The design makes it very hard to know who to look to to be seated or if there is any question who to approach. All staff seem to be running around busily even when the restaurant was 40% full. Maybe more are needed?
Four of us had a working lunch. The background music was very loud. Two ordered the daily special and the sandwich arrived out burnt and the aubergine topping was uncooked. Not a good experience for two of our party. The music was very loud and the service slow. My own meal was very good (fish), but I felt the daily special was small and not anything like the standard of my dish. A mixed experience, all in all. I don't think I'd return for a working lunch on a week day again.
Love the ambience in the Commons Cafe, very quiet at the time of our brunch. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Interestine menu, quality food. Bright and spacious dining area, beautiful garden area to the rear. Looking forward to returning with friends in a few weeks time
No problem except for noise. Is background 'music' necessary. People seemed to have to shout to drown it.
Great atmosphere and background music, great service and above all great food. The only wee issue we had was they didn't have any ice cream for kiddies, but our 7 year old took great delight sharing our desserts.
The Commons cafe is in a very nice location. I liked the ambience and the service was good. I found it very expensive. The cake we got was dry and a bit stale so quite disappointing considering its price. Definitely overpriced in general, but it might have to do with being new and outrageous pricey trends of cafes in town.
I will only go back for coffee as it was very good.
Very good service with excellent explanation of two dishes on the menu which we subsequently ordered & enjoyed.
Mostly prompt service which went missing for a while. Reasonable good food. We were there at lunchtime on a Friday and by the time our meals were served it was very loud in the room. A few sound absorbing features would help.
Have eaten here before & the food is consistently delicious but let down hugely on my last visit by an incredibly rude waitress, which was a shame.
Had booked for 4 to celebrate Nolaig na mBan - good food great service - quiet day but good vibe - disappointed museum was not open but we will be back
Excellent, service, food and ambiance but the noise level was more than energetic’
Staff were very professional, accommodating, attentive and friendly .
All requests were responded to, food was simple in choice but well done and overall bill was very good value
We were a group of 8 there for the first time and will definitely be back
HAD LUNCH TWICE. BOTH TIMES EXCELLENT . INTERESTING MENU BEAUTIFULLY COOKED AND PRESENTED . HOPE TO BE A REGULAR. OFF PEAK TIME HOWEVER, ACOUSTICALLY DIFFICULT FOR HARD OF HEARING OLDER PEOPLE. BUT A TOP CLASS VENUE A GREAT ADDITION TO CITY CENTRE DINING
food was excellent and the room is beautiful. Service was very poor, unorganised, had to request items multiple times and very slow service. Ended up requesting the bill after waiting for 20 mins for someone to take dessert order and this was after waiting a long time to get the menu.
I would try it again and hope that the service is more organised.
Firstly I’ll start by saying the food was really nice, well presented and flavourful. The service on the other hand I found quite lacking. I am not sure if it’s due to inexperience in evening dinning which The Commons would not really be used to since it primarily functions as a lunch place. We booked for evening service last weekend. When we arrived we weren’t really greeted when we walked in and was a little disappointed that there was no Christmas decor for the season but it is a lovely space with great artistic photographs on the walls non the less. The staff seemed very busy with prepping for the next day and not really into providing hospitable service to customers and this seemed to trickle to management as well. We were aware we were the last seating for the night but we should not feel rusted to order or complete our meal which was the case. It’s also the Christmas season so front and kitchen staff should be a bit more lenient towards finishing times. We had to get staff to slow down and take our drink orders as they seemed to want to finish up for the night. Our food arrived quickly and was great. When it came to dessert which they had a lovely selection, we were told the kitchen was closed and could only choose from two different ones. Normally if a kitchen is about to close a curtesy check in from a server would take place to insure a table can order any last items. Also it was only 9:30pm at this point which is too early to shut down on one of the busiest dining nights of the year. Our server was also checking her phone on the service floor and had little knowledge of their carefully considered wine list. We could have spent double that night on dinning there but due to lack of consideration of proper dinner service we did not. I hope this establishment can improve on dinner service as it should match the quality of food.
Excellent place for lunch, brunch or coffee. Very nice decor, laid back space and lovely museum/arts&crafts shop next door. Highly recommended.
A beautiful space for a casual yet delicious lunch
On the whole the food was quite good but we had a few strange occurrences. My guest who can't eat white bread asked if a slice of brown bread could be substituted for the Blaa on one of the menu items but this could not be accommodated even though we were served brown bread with the soup.
For the cheeseboard, two out of the three cheeses served were not Irish. We thought this restaurant should showcase Irish produce. We found the decor attractive overall but felt it could benefit from some soft surfaces to absorb the noise.
Wonderful food served in a stunning room! Service was great too!
