The Derby

The restaurant was closed. Why are we able to make reservations if the restaurant has been closed for weeks?

Closed even though OpenTable allowed me to make a reservation...

Outdoor patio was great!

It was closed, I wouldn’t give a bad review because I have no idea. Please UPDATE HOURS and don’t let people reserve times that do not exist.

The derby was amazing and so accommodating! I could not say enough good things about this restaurant. The food, the staff, the drinks, etc... everything was so good and I look forward to coming back again soon!

The food was pretty basic to be honest. It is what you would expect from a restaurant is a high tourist area. What really turned us off was the service. We received our apps in a timely fashion, but then 5 minutes later we received our entrees. We were seated at a 2 top so you could imagine how crowded the table was. The food runner/waitress did not ask if we wanted anything cleared off or offer to bring the food back to the kitchen until we were finished with our apps. I've been in food service operations for 15 years, I understand wanting to turn your times in a timely manner to made tips and push sales. However, the guest experience is a huge part of what makes a restaurant successful long term. We saw our waitress maybe 2 times, when she took the order and when she dropped the bill. I obviously don't know what time the rush is for this location and for all I know maybe she was in the weeds. I sympathies, but from a guest point of view she didn't seem to care that we were being rushed .

My server was perfect. Attentive without being too much, always came over at a break in convo and very quick with any request...

Nachos were and always are AMAZING
And this new drink they have “The cherry bomb” TO.DIE.FOR.

My girlfriend and I came in on a date after stopping in for a quick bite and drink the night before. They promptly sat us, and we had amazing service throughout the night. The food and drinks were amazing. Great spot to check out while in Salem!

Manager was awesome! Our reservations were cancelled and he called us and added us back on. Came over and talked to our table when we got there and made us feel at home.

This is the best brunch spot on the planet. The food, service, and atmosphere is FANTASTIC!

This restaurant looked really cute but was very disappointing. Service was awful. Additionally ran out of several menu items bc of holiday weekend.

The staff here make the dining experience worth it. Pleasant greeting when you enter & leave and our waitress was very knowledgeable & attentive. We enjoyed our meals - bbq style menu - the bacon biscuits were delish!
It started to rain lightly and they quickly moved us to a table with an umbrella! During these times - everyone is trying to make it be as pleasant of a dining experience as it can be. It was clear to us - that Derby St is trying their best for their customers. It was much appreciated & worth going back again.

Went to brunch with some friends after our spin class — shared a mimosa tower, fruity pebble french toast, and eggs benny; I think we all died and went to heaven. Great background music and outdoor seating. Love this place!

The service and food was perfect!!!

This was our first dining experience since the pandemic started and we felt very safe at The Derby. We sat at an outside table that was well spaced from other tables and had a sign saying that table and chairs had been sanitized. You could find the menu on your phone by scanning the QR Code found on the table which was super simple. Our waitress was great! I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was tough to put down as it was delicious, but a lil messy. My wife got the fish n'chips and really enjoyed it. The manager came around to every table, with a funny mask that had a mustache on it and kept his distance, but gave off a vibe that he was appreciative for our business. We saw him again shortly before we left, bringing two dog bowls of ice water for a couple dogs that some other diners had brought on to the patio which, made their day.

We'll be back for sure.

We love this place. Our stop this time was for Sunday brunch. Food was amazing as always, I'm sure we stayed way too long but our server put up with our crazy group of 4. This is one of our regular places we go to whether for brunch, lunch, dinner or just to socialize. It has a great vibe and we love the people there especially the GM Doug! It's an absolute must go!!!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a casual, classy dinner and this was the perfect spot. Right in the hub of Salem. I got a watermelon feta salad which was enormous and delicious. He got the chicken and waffles and loved every bite. Our server Aja was friendly and personable. Hostess staff was excellent as well. We asked to be seated outside, but in the shade and they were very accommodating. Service was quick and efficient. Will be going back!

We enjoyed ourselves. We were in Salem to look at the university and town with our daughter. The restaurant was very Covid aware which we appreciated. The service was great, our server Chelsea was friendly, attentive and professional. The food was okay; honestly it was bar food, but good bar food. Great drink selection.

Great service, excellent food and drinks. Will definitely be back!
