The District

Outdoor dining was great!! The heaters wer quiet and efficient. Food was hot, portions were huge, and cocktails wonderful. It was a little on the pricey side, but we didn’t mind helping a local business. Service was fantastic.
This is a good place that always delivers
We had a table outside, since the weather was nice. The staff was friendly and timely. The food was not great. The fried pickles lacked taste, and my burger was not cooked the whole way through. The server comped us for the uncooked burger but we won't be returning anytime soon.
I should’ve listened to the poor recent reviews and steered clear. The cocktails were terrible (coconut margarita was anything but a margarita), all food arrived cold (chicken & waffles, District Burger, Cauliflower Bites, Bisque Soup), and the food itself was of a very low quality (outside of the fact it all arrived cold). Extremely overpriced for such poor service and subpar food, I could’ve had a tastier meal at a Denny’s. I’m super lenient during Covid in terms of dining experiences/expectations ... but this was just terrible.
Very fun place to eat! Food and staff are terrific!
We had brunch for my daughter’s birthday. Everything was prepared well and the food was hot even outside on a cool Fall day. The service was excellent; we were well taken care of. We would definitely come back again.
Pros: Lovely setting and very friendly staff, and the buffalo cauliflower and truffle fries were delicious.
Cons: The drinks were not good, I think their bartender needs some help. I first ordered a Prickly & Pink which was really unpleasant, it tasted like vinegar. Although I hate to do it, I sent it back in exchange for an Aperol spritzer, which was also not good, there was hardly any alcohol in it and it was mostly club soda. I didn’t want to go through sending another drink back again so I just ordered a beer, which was fine.
Caesar salad was skimpy and bland, I needed to add a hefty amount of salt and pepper to get any real flavor and it came with hardly any cheese or bacon. It was $24 because I added chicken to it, which is ridiculous. A dinner salad should not cost that much, ever. Except if you’re at The Capital Grille, which we weren’t. Not even close.
Doubtful I’ll return, except maybe for a beer and bar bites.
Food was outstanding...unfortunate it took nearly an hour to get our food from the time we sat down, but the server, greeter, and team overall were excellent. The quality of the food made up for the time delay. Would have been 5 stars otherwise.
Everything was okay, not great. Small portions...I had veggie burger with salad instead of fries. Salad was about 3 bites! Super small. Veggie burger was really, really gummy and rather bland. Husband had salad with chicken and the same is true....small portion, just a few bites of chicken on the salad. Hostess made no eye contact with people waiting at the front until she was damn ready....thought that was poor service. Fine if you’re not ready to seat but at least acknowledge customers. Waitress was great. Eating outside was great too. For the amount of food we received, not a great value for the $.
A great place for brunch. Outside seating was good
nice place, good service and food, a bit too pricey for what you get, pad thai with chicken $28 is a too high.
This was our first experience at The District. The service, food and cocktails were great! Our server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back.
Busy at lunch time, initial service a bit tardy, everyday casual dining, wouldn’t rush back, not with so many other options in town. Looks like it could have a good bar scene hopefully post Covid.
We had 6:30 reservations, arrived on time and was told our table wasn't ready, it would be about 10 minutes. So we went to the bar and orders drinks. 20 minutes later we we were seated. We ordered apps and they came in a reasonable time. After we finished our apps, we waited over 30 minutes to get our entrees, this was after they had delivered them to the wrong table! I had ordered the serloin steak, RARE, when I cut it open, at best it was MEDIUM to WELL done. By this time we should have left, however, we were hungry. We were asked how everything was, I showed the waiter my steak and he concurred that it was medium at best. He said he would inform the kitchen. I have made it a point to tip very well during the pandemic and I was prepared to leave a 40% tip, however, after our experience I only left a 20% tip and noted on the receipt that it could have been more! Not sure we will be back, as there are many options in Portsmouth where we have received better service.
A wonderful experience, the food was excellent, best fish & chips I’ve had in a long time. Chris had a great sense of humor and good timing.
We had Brunch. Hostess was rude and Was not accommodating . Some of the food was good some was less than good. Nothing special. The drinks took forever and the food was even longer. Over 2 hours for brunch , must of the home spent waiting .
I love it here! Best place in town to bring your pet and the food and drinks are fantastic to boot!
The food And service were great. It was a little cold for me because the air was on high - probably due to the pandemic. Overall The experience was very good and I would go back.
Food was ok, not great. Pad Thai flavor was ok - the chicken protein was just a sliced breast added on top, not cooked in sauce. Service was ok - host was distracted (after confirming the reservation he answered the phone and just dropped some menus on a table, we assumed to follow), long time between server visits but we weren’t in a rush. Probably a bit pricey for a 3 star experience.
The food was barely edible. The chowder was as thick as glue without any taste the and poutine looked like yesterday's leftovers. I will never go here again, even if it means a 90 minute wait at a different restaurant.
It was a cool night and you pulled the shades down and sat us under a heater....perfect!!
We are outdoors in the patio. It was great to be out in Portsmouth. The service was slow to begin but they made up for it by using a new ordering system. The maple salmon was good but under cooked. More medium rare than medium. The ribs fried rice was very good and tasty. The buffalo cauliflower was very good too. My wife had the sangria and we had a great time.
Food was very good, not cheap but worth it. Staff was outstanding very helpful. The outdoor seating was nice and dog friendly which is a plus in my book. I would definitely go back again and once Covid is over try seating inside.
Came for brunch, our waitress was really informative and the food was great.
Good was mediocre at best. Asked for a salad with grilled chicken. Literally received shredded lettuce and steamed chicken. French onion soup was so salty. (And I love salt but it was too much) Service team was very nice but food was poor.
Excellent food, great / friendly service. Stephanie was terrific
Service was awful. Server inattentive and the host was just plain rude.
Waiter was amazing!
I made reservations at The District for a bachelorette party. They were very accommodating. The service was great, our waitress was quick and friendly. The food wasn’t anything spectacular, but it was good and the price was fair, it’s around the same price for food at any other local restaurants. We had a great time there and I would visit The District again.
Surprised this place is not rated higher. We had excellent service and very attentive. Food portions were good and I thought the price / value was spot on. We ate outside in the enclosed front area and they even put the heaters on above us to keep the area warm enough. I was really happy I chose this location. Should be rated higher.
We had a wonderful outdoor dining experience! The staff, attentive and friendly. Table spacing on point, food well executed.
Love the District! Dave (Owner) was awesome, helped keep us out of the blazing sun!!!
The Salmon Benedict was so delicious...will order it again!!! See you soon!!!
The manager was the worst. Cared more about flirting with a table of ladies rather than acknowledging the 4+ groups waiting to be sat. Continued to ignore the parties waiting, who all had made reservations, and chatted to tables and did other things while avoiding eye contact the entire time. I’ve worked in the industry for over 15 years and was extremely frustrated the entire time.
OUR SERVER TAYLOR WAS AMAZING!! THANK YOU, WE ALWAYS HAVE INCREDIBLE BRUNCH AT THE DISTRICT.
Outdoor dining. Noisy but COVID demands outdoor dining. Tasty food.
The drinks were not balanced. The food left a lot to be desired and tasted very bland like frozen food. And it took over an hour for our food to come out
Service was terrible. Food took over an hour to come out and every plate was cold. Sat with a bigger party and waitress refused to split the bill.
Food and service were amazing! I had the avocado toast and their specialty mimosa. I also love that they are pet friendly. I would definitely go again!
Was meeting up with a former client that I work with just as a casual get together we haven’t seen each other in about four years so it’s nice get together everything was great server was awesome just a little bit with the food the french fries were a little soggy and the chicken was a little under but otherwise everything was great
Meh. Food wasn’t great. We went for brunch. They had a few gluten free options. I got the tofu s ramble that admittedly, is probably not the most popular. The veggies were tough chunks of cabbage, like the middle part, a few beans, tofu and veggie sausage. The curry seasoning was lumpy. For $12 I expected better. GF sucks. It’s not a preference. No one would chose this hell. Waiter was great and outdoor seating allows dogs. 5 Star ambiance for the dogs.
