All fabulous and all diners were chatting to each other across tables service food drinks were lovely great night
Really lovely service & incredible food& cocktails! Will definitely be going back
The Eton Mess is a great local restaurant and has recently undergone an internal renovation and they've updated both the food and drink menu.
The food is excellent! But unfortunately the service or lack of takes away from the top class and beautiful food the chef is making. Its not that the servers were bad or unpleasant, there just isn't enough staff working. And this has been the case on our two previous visits. Currently the wait staff are also expected to make the cocktails from their (excellent) cocktail menu as well as serving the guests. So we've left both times saying we loved the food and drinks but the service just isn't up to scratch (due to lack of staff).
Just to be clear the wait staff working there are great, they're just expected to do too much which damages the guest experience.
Dark interior but very friendly staff. Delicious passion fruit mojito and the food was excellent. All in all a lovely evening out.
No menu and minimal food available. Lamb was ok. Kind of chewy
Sunday Roast is amazing! Never fails. New decor is sleek! Lovely venue we have been coming here for years!
Great food, cocktails and atmosphere! We had a great date night here!
Really disappointed with first visit on Xmas Eve. No small plates being served so had to choose meal 3 days before. Wd were put into a booth which resembled the inside of a telephone box which was freezing cold away from the fire where we had drinks which was nice although only one other diner in restaurant so no atmosphere, and food well below average. People told the kitchen was closed so people being turned away - all in all won’t go back.
Came for Christmas Eve dinner. Menu was preset and not nearly as good as regular menu. Been before and enjoyed everything, but this time it was subpar and a big disappointment!
Very helpful staff with menu choices. Food was good, plenty of it and hot
4 items not available from the menu. Christmas menu not available for our Christmas party even though we had booked a table. We were told we needed to have preordered to get the Christmas menu but had not been told in advance. We left before ordering. Very disappointed.
Lovely venue, nice nut Sunday roast option for the vegetarian in our group. Fab cocktails. Would recommend. Shame the Eaton Mess was out of stock though!!
All lovely, even if their wine list had been (hopefully temporarily) desecrated by something or other.
Food and ambience as ever tip top.
A fantastic evening, we had cocktails first and the staff were lovely, I had requested a booth for our meal and that was ready and waiting for us. The food is so good, it’s obviously home made and pretty generous considering they are small plates. Lovely service, only one problem which kept it away from 5⭐️ Is they had run out of the wine we had started with and we had to choose another. Not much of a problem really,
Recommend the bottomless brunch with choice of cocktails or prosecco. Great food, lovely staff. Will def go there again! Well done Eton Mess
Very nice lunch.
Good service, good Sunday roast.
I would very recommend to others for a good meal
Service was good and very welcoming. Unfortunately the food did not live up to this. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict was tasteless and the eggs over cooked. The batter on the fish and chips was soggy. All in all a very unsatisfactory meal at £20 a head for one course and a soft drink.
Poor service. Waited over an hour only to be told the food would take a lot longer....
Staff were very unwelcoming. Any request was argued, or moaned about to other staff members.
Bottomless had SO many rules it took away the fun. Each cocktail took around 25-30 mins to make, so we were without cocktails for the majority of our time slot.
The bartender licked the straw testing our drinks, AND PUT THE STRAW BACK IN OUR DRINKS.
The food took over an hour to arrive.
Overall a pretty awful dining experience, I now understand why it was so quiet in there.
Will not be returning.
Booked a table for 2 at 8.45pm through Opentable.
Arrived at 8.35 and they didn’t have my booking. We were taken to choice of tables. After 3 more attempts and me showing the waitress my Opentable booking on my phone they found my booking.
The Opentable page is in no way representative of the venue. This is NOT a restaurant, it a small busy bar with very loud live music (Saturday night) that serves dishes that are more like very expensive bar snacks and do not meet the menu descriptions.
We asked for Olives, which is on the Opentable menu.
They served a wooden platter with Olives and tomato, butter and oil. It was clearly meant to be their Bread & Olives starter but as my partner is Gluten free they just took the bread off and charged us for the starter dish!
All she asked for was Olives at £3.50 not £5.00 starter...
Starters:
I ordered the Salt & pepper squid and crab mayo.
I received undercooked (not crispy) calamari rings and what I think was tartar sauce.
Mains:
Ordered - Confit pork belly, burnt apple purée and balsamic carrots. £9.50
Received 4 dried pork cubes, apples sauce and burnt carrots. This was sent back.
I ordered Cornish Cod loin, chick pea and chorizo Stew.
Received a nice bit of fish on chick peas and chorizo, this was in no way a stew! (See pics)
Asked for the bill and then had to ask for the 12.5% service charge to be removed. Pretty shocked that they present a bill with service charge added when we had to send food back and ask for it not to be replaced.
The Gin & Chilli cocktail however was fantastic.
Main issue is that we booked a restaurant with the expectation of the menu on Opentable and ended up with a noisy busy bar with over priced bar snacks.
Looks lovely and the staff are very friendly but they don’t serve food on Monday so that should e corrected on the app. They helped us get a reservation across the street so it all worked out. Look forward to coming back and trying the food!
Fantastic service, lovely food and great location. As a group with toddlers in tow the outside area was perfect. We got there early and it was a really pleasurable experience. Would highly recommend and will be visiting again.
Fabulous Sunday Roast, and great service, highly recommend.
Arrived just after 5pm and was informed that kitchen normally closes at 5pm but chef would honour booking. Despite Open Table app suggesting we could have booked later. No-one else was in the restaurant. Waitress hurried us through our starters. Mains arrived with some extras (beef and cauliflower cheese). No desserts left apart from cheesecake - we passed. They did provide a child sized portion even though not advertised. Appreciated this. Taste was ok but slightly cold. Too pricey - more expensive than advertised on Open Table and had we realised this we would not have stayed. £68.50 for two adults and a 4 year old. Not sure we'll go back.
We miss the burgers on the menu.
I was excited to try the food here because of the reviews.
We were seated in a very nice private cubby and service was good. The light could have been better, even a candle would have helped as it was quite dark and difficult to read the menu.
The menu is all based on 'small plates' and there wasn't a lot of choice given that this is the style. The choice was also restrictive and sides very, very limited (three types of fries!). Food itself was pleasant but for me nothing outstanding or that special and I have eaten in similar type gastro-pubs that have been much better and better value for money. It was also not possible to order any starters such as bread or olives etc , which we found strange. Cocktails were good and around £10 each.
All in all, I would not go back here again.
We were the only people in the restaurant for brunch hence the low score for ambience. We could have been sat in the woods due seats rather than at the back of the restaurant. We will visit again.
Service was very slow. Starters weren’t that great but the roast was lovey. Drinks are too over priced.
The discretionary service charge at 12.5% is the only bad thing. If this was removed we would eat there more often.
Staff were great and coped with us being half an hour late. Welcoming ambience, more restaurant than pub, but relaxed, dog-friendly bar area. Sunday roasts were very good. Thoroughly recommend.
Very attentive staff, menu is small however quality is very good.
We very much enjoyed our evening out. Great service, good meals and lovely wine.
Only one complaint is the 12.5% discretionary service charge.
Roast was amazing
Staff very friendly and smiley
Definitely be back!
Very thoughtful and kind staff.
Thought this place would be much better than it turned out to be, the food was okish, nothing special at all. Was expecting something much better from the photos I had seen before booking
I had made a booking for Tuesday evening, when I arrived I started to say I have a reservation in the name of........, I was cut of and told to follow on, which I thought was rude to not even let me finish my sentence, ordered drinks, asked a couple of questions about items on the menu, which the staff had to find out from the kitchen, not the hardest of questions, what fish is used in your Fish and Chips !!. Roll on the food arrived, not even average in presentation and taste, at no point were we asked how our food was !!, when plates were cleared, it was obvious that with what we left, it wasn’t good, all we were asked was are you finished !!, very poor customer service on top of what was less than average food. Got the bill and paid including your 12.5% service charge. Can you let me know why you deserve 12.5% !, and then to top it of I went to use the toilet facilities, no indication where they are, I walk round to the bar where at the other side a staff member was having his dinner, I was looking for the toilets, could only see the ladies, I asked the forementioned staff member politely where the gents were, it took him all his time to acknowledge me and tell me they were in the other side in the restaurant area, my one and only visit to The Eton Mess.
Fully and utterly disappointed, will never eat or drink in your establishment again.
Great food. Great service. Great drinks menu. I will definitely be back again soon!
Overall lovely meal and atmosphere. Cosy booth table made for an ideal romantic meal. Restaurant in nice location just across the river from Windsor makes for a pleasant evening walk after your meal. Waiter and waitress very welcoming and accommodating. Wonderful cocktail selection. Menu choice limited but decent.
Great food, inattentive serve!
