The George Hotel & Beach Club
A complete disaster! We were so looking forward to our celebration lunch. Cost £75 on the ferry to be told when we got there that they were only serving pizza! 2 gluten intolerant friends meant we went elsewhere. Absolutely ridiculous.
Felt like another country with the sun shining. Great cocktails
Amazing food & fantastic customer service - my family & I had a great dining experience, the view out over the bay was unforgettable.
Excellent and thank you for moving the umbrellas to accommodate me who didn’t want to sit in the sun and my friend who did.
Great food and service as ever
Delicious food and great ambience!
A beautiful location with excellent customer service, and amazing food.
Always amazing. My favorite place
Incredible food, lovely staff and a beautiful view & ambience. Will definitely come again!
Fab day. Tanya and her team outside were fab. Big praise to Lilly who was delightful.
Fantastic garden, great food and attentive staff. Thank you.
Phenomenal, stunning location but the menu was unimaginative and the food was very average. Extremely expensive but a showstopping view, at least.
We had an amazing meal at The George and the staff were so considerate of my partner's complicated dietary requirements. The food was incredible and the location unbeatable!
Great lunch and afternoon. Good food and very friendly staff and atmosphere. Wonderful service. Thank you.
Absolutely wonderful lunch in the sunshine! Amazing tiger prawns, great service and beautiful location.
Wonderful food, great service and beautiful location
Lovely food but it’s the setting which is really magical - chilly but stunning beachside sunsets! Fantastic special place.
Both my husband and I could not have received better service all the staff were above and beyond! And the food was incredible!
Beautiful location. Delicious food. Great service.
The starters were amazing. Tuna crude and sea bass carpaccio not to be missed
Beautiful food, setting and outlook. Disappointing to witness the waiter staff have a disagreement between each other whilst standing next to our table, could of been more professional.
Bathrooms could also of been presented better.
Couple of niggles but would definitely visit again and would like to grab a table in the conservatory.
A very disappointing experience. The service was abysmal: we had to ask for everything, the table was never ‘served’ and if we managed to flag someone down they didn’t appear to have a clue.
This was supposed to be a treat for my mother and my children but we all left totally deflated. How can such a wonderful location - at tip top prices - manage to be so awful?
The food itself was hit and miss which again wasn’t to be expected when paying the prices charged. It was noted that a couple of tables around us appeared to be having similar problems with food going back and general disquiet.
I suggest the hefty 12.5% Service Charge be taken off until someone gets hold of the place and manages it properly. Perhaps a new chef too?
Service could have been better, menu did not seem very balanced. food was very enjoyable. Was rather cool, despite being indoors, when sun went in. Coffee was terrible. Overall an enjoyable experience but did not match The George reputation.
From Hero to Zero! We visited as a group of 9 on Saturday evening and everything was outstanding, but returning as a table of 3 on Wednesday the whole experience was average at best. The table in the bushes was covered with ants, the service was slow, the orders were wrong and despite asking different people time over the order still wasn’t corrected. In the end we decided to avoid ordering dessert and leave. Really disappointing how they can go from getting it so right, to so wrong in a matter of days.
Lovely setting we choose to sit inside. The food was delicious, a little on the pricy side but worth it. The service was disappointingly slow. I appreciate it was half term but it was a shame a slightly ruined the experience.
Service was unfortunately very poor. Half an our after our order they said they were out of hamburgers which was ordered by my husband. Then they came back again the kids meals couldnt be served either. 45 minuted after our first order we made a new choice. Then they said it would be there in 5min and it took another 30min.
They did apologise. Got a few soft drinks refunded and bread and no service charge but that was it.
Lovely place but they need to step up their service.
Lovely old building very well decorated. Food was first class but a touch on the expensive side. The services as not good we waited over an hour after ordering. We were then asked by 3 different people if we would like to order dessert. It seemed that none of the staff had a specific job
The food was very nice, if a little pricey. The service was very friendly but incredibly slow - we gave up on having pudding after waiting 40 mins for someone to take our order.
Lovely lunch - great food and service in a good spot
Amazing setting , front of house very good , food ok but a little pricey for what you get .
Overall a lovely evening
Gorgeous setting, like being in the med. Service was sketchy with long delays and they ran out of veggies, but perhaps were adapting to covid still. The head waitress warned us they were having issues and to order early. Food was delicious and setting spectacular so more than made up for it overall.
Delicious meal with a spectacular setting on the terrace
There was no food other than pizzas until 6pm which was really annoying and we would have love to know in advance. However, the food was really good and the place very nice.
We ordered four items and two of them were wrong/forgotten which is just not on for this kind of place/expense. We were fortunately not in a rush as half an hour between each course. Lovely gardens and the quality of the food once it came was superb. £75 a head without starters
Friends and new job
Great day in the sun! It almost felt like we were in Europe.
We had a wonderful evening here with friends. The staff in the restaurant, without exception, were outstanding - friendly, relaxed and attentive. The food was absolutely first class, stand-out starters being the IOW tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and steak tartare. The grilled steak with peppercorn sauce was perfectly cooked and the tiger prawns were a treat that did not disappoint.
Sun was shining, the sea was high, we sat out on the garden terrace and couldn’t want for a better setting... wine was good, food was excellent... the burger, wow!
Have been many times and always a pleasure. Naturally eating in the Italian garden is weather dependent, but we were lucky with full hot Sun.
Seems to be all new staff after lockdown and very young, but they did well. (Apprenticeship?)
Was very busy as was the ferry from Lymington.
New Chef Claude Bosi?
Food always good if a touch expensive, The Burger was delicious.
What a beauty of a day it was! Idyllic setting and wonderful magnum of rose, delicious food and great service. It was celebrating my dads birthday and the staff bought him out a celebration plate which he loved. Such a good day! We will be back :)
One of our favourite places to eat on the Isle of Wight, even though the menu is a little restrictive. Food and service is always good but we felt that adding a 12.5% ‘optional’ service charge to the bill was excessive. This puts diners in an awkward position as to ask for it to be reduced or removed feels like complaining. The George does feel over staffed compared to comparable locations, so maybe the policy is to pay low wages and expect the customers to make up the difference? I am always happy to add a tip but prefer this to be discretionary and where the customer can add their own amount on the card machine. Automatically adding 12.5% to already quite high prices leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth at the end of a nice meal.
