The Grounds of Alexandria Cafe
Cliche instagram props and people everywhere. Food is mediocre. Service is QR code. Ambience is about capturing photos, reviewing on devices and not about food.
I’m too old for this place
We were given a table in not a nice area. The menu choice for lunch I thought wasn't great. The food was okay if a little overpriced. I was just disappointed with the overall experience.
Wonderful service. Great food!
Head waiter efficiently ensured we had a high chair and room for a pram. A preordered cake was bought to the table with candles at my request.
Food was good, however incredibly poor service which was surprising as it seemed quiet in comparison to busy weekends pre-COVID. Staff seemed to go out of their way to avoid not just us, but all patrons, and genuinely seemed annoyed when we asked for anything.
Menu terrible, overpriced, TERRIBLE SERVICE, not child friendly, horrible food. Not a pleasant experience at all.
Great food, great service. Would definitely recommend.
Food and drinks is expensive and not worth the money you pay. $7.50 for a deconstructed got chocolate that was awful! Coffee not to bad. Kids meal menu abit odd and to much going on in them.
Food , surroundings and service was great. The three text messages and email about booking were annoying
No aircon inside or even fans, poor service overall. Few food choices. Over priced.
Went to cafe for breakfast which had a booking for, wanted a crossiant with cheese for my 4 year old, apparently I couldn't order this? Staff were really rude and on way out after paying there was no Thankyou or anything all she wanted to do was put thru next persons card behind me. Travelled all the way from central coast. Obviously there focus is not on customers more on getting ppl in and out.
It was absolutely amazing.. love the food.. love the atmosphere ❤️❤️❤️
I loved it there. Thanks for the fantastic service. =)
We came on a 38 degree day and we were very uncomfortable due to heat as there is no air conditioning in the cafe. Food was mediocre. Decorations were outrageously beautiful but my daughter wasn’t in the mood to take photos. Luckily they were selling fresh lemonade which was very refreshing!
Overrated uncomfortable noisy
Suddenly no waiters order with an app
No cold water
No ice no waiters want to notice
Exhausted bothered and happy to leave you there with no service
Got up 4 x times to get attention
Drinks came 3/4 in the way finishing food on a 38 degree day
No follow up
Did you find the app ok
It was amazing even in the heat I had a wonderful time with my family and cannot wait to go back!!!
No air con inside on a 41degree day
Service was poor
Shakes came 30mins after our food
Kids shake came in a takeaway cup instead of teddy bear glass as per the menu photo, this was weird given we dined in.
Two of the four meals came out completely cold.. when we sent them back was told the kitchen was packed up so could only have a fried egg instead of poached. You have to order and pay online now before your food even arrives, and supposedly tip your waiter before they’ve done anything. Everything was being packed away as we ate. Not recommended for the price or quality.
Beautiful spot. The Cinderella and Christmas display was gorgeous.
Glad we went early though, it gets extremely busy and pretty much impossible to social distance!
This being my first time at The Grounds of Alexandria I have to say that the staff and food really didn’t impress me. I found the staff not very friendly and helpful and when our breakfast was given to us they jus plonked out food down. They got our order incorrect so our food didn’t all come out and the same time.
The Grounds of Alexandria is beautiful. However would not come back to eat or buy flowers etc.
A must visit if you are in Sydney. Very unique and the food and drink options were plenty.
The service was appalling. The childrens menu was limited. The only milkshake my niece could have was a nutella milkshake. When my sister asked if it was possible for them to make a vanilla milkshake she was told no. The manager was argumentative, arrogant, rude and offensive. Will never return, will never recommend. We went to visit for my nieces 7th birthday for something special. She left in tears on her birthday.
Great ambience, friendly staff, food and drinks were good. We ordered the steak sandwich and it was lovely, definitely not something you could pick up and eat with your fingers, though.
Salads were delicious & nourishing. Blue lemonade was a highlight with the children. Children menu was great too
Loved it! Would highly recommend this to expats, tourists as well as locals to definitely experience The Grounds atleast once in their lifetime! My husband and I went there on a date yesterday during the 'Cinderella on the Grounds' expo. Just exquisite, we loved the attention to details
Took 45 minuets for someone to come and take my oder, i had a child who was hungry and thirsty so it would of been nice to at least have drinks ordered not long after we sat down.
It seemed very under staffed and not the best communication
Table was too dirty and sticky. When making a booking, asked for the table arrangement 3+3 with high chairs but was not arranged so. Hard to talk to waitstaff as they are too busy to do give enough attention to customers.
Nice food though.
Nice tasting food. Very well presented food. Full bellys, substantial meal size.
Pretty place to dine.
Never fails to impress. Food on pointe even though they were crazy busy. Only way to order is through the app which is a little distracting.
Sold out of food, limited available.
Waited for drinks for over 30mins.
Excellent value and extremely beautiful and sensational!
Disappointed with the menu, there was no steak sandwich available for lunch, didn't really feel like a hamburger substitute. There was nothing else to attract my taste.
Excellent service well priced very enjoyable and the grounds looked amazing
In short: Most go to The Grounds for 'the grounds.' Gorgeous surroundings perfect for a cake and coffee and fresh produce and flower market stalls.
Very average and overpriced selection of lunch and bunch options. No alcohol either as The Grounds is (now) unlicensed. Often overcrowded on weekends.
Message to The Grounds - if your food and drinks game is not lifted soon with COVID-normal, your 'grounds' game won't keep your customers returning.
At length: The setting and atmosphere of The Grounds is a creative culmination of flora, architecture and stage setting props, which are second to none this side of Sydney. However, the selection and production of food has really fallen in standards and value.
I appreciate COVID-19 has been very unkind to most cafes, restaurants and bars, however, this should be an opportunity to come back better and provide more value to your customers.
Most lunch options read like brunch options, with egg in almost all dishes. My smallish fattoush salad was nothing but halved cherry tomatoes, a few bits of caramelised onions, oversized fried bread, eggs and dressing....for $20. I had to pay an extra $6 for two small strips of chicken to vary the flavour and texture! Would adding a cucumber have been to much of an ask?
Kids food options are average and size is good, however for $15 they ought to be.
Service is friendly, but never efficient or streamlined.
Sorry The Grounds, this formerly returning customer and extended family are giving The Grounds a miss this summer.
I have been to the Grounds before . This time it was way too loud. We had a hamburger each which was “just”. Bun too greasy but it was edible . The ladies toilets were awful. Large Stain in sink and cubicles smelled awful. They are in need of an upgrade
Loved the theme and everything but found it was still to packed to actually have a good look at the current theme - Cinderella
Thank you for taking the time to review The Grounds of Alexandria. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience with us. We would recommend visiting the installation during the week when we are slightly quieter in the laneways, Sunday is our busiest day. We hope to see you back again soon.
It was quite crowded - no social distancing. It took awhile to get an attention from staff.
Was a wonderful experience coming to the grounds and being a Cinderella fan, they did it justice and it was a marvellous experience to witness my little girls face beam with joy.
The pumpkin carriage was a great addition, queues were managed well and I definitely will be taking my family back there at night 😊
Thank you for your lovely review of your recent experience. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Cinderella installation and you'll be back to see it again soon :)
Unfortunately the ordering was quite annoying, the whole online service took ages due to poor coverage.
It was very sticky and bad air inside as we were placed in front of the kitchen, very noisy.
Didn’t enjoy my stay that much this time
Tanja, I'm sorry to hear that your experience wasn't great over the weekend. I have emailed you directly in case you would like to discuss this further. Kind regards
Absolute chaos, waited in the queue to be seated for our pre-booked breakfast table, was then directed to a second queue for seating and left standing there for at least 15 minutes. We placed our order and paid on the app, then we waited almost an hour for our food. Despite multiple staff wandering around, nobody seemed that interested in checking on anything and when I finally got someone to go and look, out came our food... stone cold. Who knows how long it had been sitting there. Not a word of apology from staff, and not prepared to wait any more, we ate what we could, and even if it had been warm it wouldn't be anything to rave about. Once a great venue, now an overpriced shambolic experience with deafening noise levels. AVOID!
Beautiful venue but unfortunately very poor service.
