Waited over an hour for our food to arrive which ended up being a plain tomato salad and some boring sautéed potatoes. The waitress was pretty unapologetic. Left hungry and late for our event because of this.
Hotcakes with berries were awesome. Overall service was friendly and attentive however my girlfriend's initial order of a juice did take a long time to be delivered. Noise level was high on a Sunday morning. Our table neighbours were very close to the point where you have to move the table for people to sit down/get up at adjacent tables. Interior has loads of historical character and atmosphere.
Great vibe and service.
Highly recommend this place!
A favorite date spot of my wife and I, we get the coffee tasting board every time we go. The ambience and decor of the place is a cozy Victorian vibe, the food and coffee are always to due for (albeit a bit on the pricy side, but we still feel it’s worthwhile).
Just loved the High Tea; all our favourites appeared so deliciously and freshly made! Excellent service, tea brewed perfectly and very little waiting time. Great choice of 20s Jazz ambient music ... all in all a lovely afternoon. I will be back!
It’s a really beautiful place to eat and I have enjoyed being there other times but I was really disappointed with our high tea experience. The food took over half an hour to come out (despite the fact that we’d booked specifically for high tea)
and there really wasn’t much food once it did come out. The limited savory options were stale and tasted like they’d been in the fridge for days. They kept messing up our drinks order as well. The Grounds City really needs to pick up the slack - it’s been years and the teething issues should be worked out by now but they aren’t which is sad because the Alexandria venue is impeccable.
Lovely, unexpected place! Great lunch food, would be nice for a romantic date. Would love to return to try breakfast menu. Very glad we reserved a table.
Service was slow. Had run out of millett for one dish, which is odd as it is a dry ingredient. Green bowl was more quinoa than greens. Ambience was good, but wait staff appeared rushed and in a hurry to turn tables.
Staff at door was very rude and would not let us in until our booking to the minute. After finishing had to wait 15 minutes for the waiter to let us actually pay for our meal after being ignored several times and reminding them 3 times.
Food was okay, but definitely not worth all the hype and trouble dealing with the staff.
Business meeting W o/seas guest
The good and service were both spectacular. We were made to feel very special for our anniversary. Loved the atmosphere!
Vegetarian food was bad.
Waygu beef sandwich slices were too big and the beef - average.
Cost - appalling - ridiculously over-priced.
Lovely location and great selection of dishes although my omelet could’ve used a bit more salt and cheese.
Waiters/waitresses incredibly high standard. Food fabulous. Only criticism is: professional but very cold staff at the service window: unwelcoming and very business like: hearding cattle rather than welcoming guests in a friendly manner. Otherwise beautiful venue, private booth and personal attention. No toilets on the premises a bad point.
I would and have gone several time in spite of the negative points above.
Enjoyed our dining experience completely, the food and venue were outstanding. We booked online and this was a plus as others were having to line up and wait for a table to become vacant.
We had a really nice meal before the Symphony. It was a perfect location and the service was very good
I had to wait even tho I had a reservatio n. Not too pleased
Nice environment and decor but noisy. Food plain not great presentation for the cost. Does not even reach an up market pub standard of the food in terms of quality and cost.
Took a while to get attention for our bill.
Maybe ok for afternoon tea but would not recommend for a meal
Enjoyed the feel of the restaurant, enjoyed the meals not so much the deserts. Would be interested in knowing the history of teh site. Was it always as it is now? Great to have a booth, private but easly to access service. A bit noisy for someone who wears a hearing aid!!
Celebrating impending nuptials for a friends step son.
Food was just ok .. I thought it was very average ..
Brilliant food. Good prices and excellent service. Great night out with my friends.
Please change the menu!!!
Enjoyed our visit over brunch meeting some friends - very prompt and friendly table service, food arrived quickly and the portions were good size. It got a bit noisy during lunchtime for regular conversation, but a pleasant visit overall
Great food and coffee! Would recommend booking, a little pricy but worth it overall.
The food was only warm, so not freshly prepared as it felt reheated.
It was fantastic and I will be back.
The only negative was, it got very noisy.
Wonderful surroundings and a great choice of dishes. Coffee is also top notch. You pay a premium but it is good quality and worth it now an then.
I do love the fresh food and menu options but this place is very loud and chaotic, which often impacts the time it takes to get drinks/food and waiters and your overall experience.
The Grounds is my favourite place to eat in Sydney!
When the best thing about a restaurant is the theming and the service, you realise that people go there for the experience, not the food. It's fun to imagine oneself in a Parisienne cafe in a vaguely Harry Potter-esque 1920s. The food and staff are beautiful to behold. Sadly, the flavour disappoints.
We had a great family dinner here, the wait staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very nice, the styling is gorgeous and there is great ambience. We enjoyed it very much :)
Great staff service and food as always xx
The food was great! And the atmosphere was amazing!!
Our waitress was so nice and friendly
I would have preferred more peanut butter than what is served in a tiny bottle. The peanut butter was delicious.
Hi there, Thank you for your review. Next time please do not hesitate to ask for more PB, we will be happy to oblige. Best regards, The Grounds of The City team
We enjoyed and so did our overseas guests. Also, a very convenient location
I felt that the tables are far too close together and impossible to have a private conversation. I had booked in advance and the table we were allocated was still occupied so we took another option but it didn't appear to be well air conditioned and very hot. The menu is very limited for lunch - most dishes are more of main size for dinner in my opinion and it would be great to have some all day breakfast options
Everything was great apart from the girl at the front counter, allowing people to push in etc and when questioned just blew it off and was snippy at me, other than that great place and great service once we where inside
Good for taking photos, but thats it.
Hi there, Thank you for your review. At The Grounds we value our guest feedback, be it positive or less so, as it helps us grow and get better at everything we do. If it isn't too much trouble, could you let us know what went wrong during your visit, so we can work on it and hopefully stop it from happening again? Thank you in advance, Kat - General Manager
