Crispy Spanish Octopus

Spectacular meal, world class staff and a magnificent setting. My avacado toast with poached eggs perfectly prepared, and the duck fat potatoes should be illegal they're so good. We'll be back AGAIN, AND AGAIN...AND AGAIN!!
Location, ambiance, set up and welcome are fantastic. The food is delicious. So what is wrong ? well the menu is very short . and not very Fish / sea oriented for Newport . The prices are also quite high compared to similar food quality venue.
Food was excellent, service was great and ambience was elegant!
This was a lovely place to have a quiet breakfast with my husband. The ambiance was lovely. Quiet, yet cozy. They had their fireplace roaring, which added to the mood. Would definitely go back when we’re back in town.
Reservation at 11 am for Brunch. Waiter announced when we were seated, the menu change to dinner menu as of 11 a.m. for Easter. We had not eaten breakfast yet, and were very upset to have to eat dinner at that time. Plus the menu was not something I would even consider eating at 11 a.m., rabbit, seafood fra diovlo, mushrooms special, oysters, etc. asked to speak to manager. She arrived at table to say the chef agreed he would make us the brunch menu.
Beautiful dining room and delicious food.
I had the most elegant Palm Sunday brunch seated by the fireplace! The food was outstanding. I had the leek and wild mushroom omelette. It was exquisite.. The service was exceptional. I will be back soon
Second time back...IT WAS TWICE AS INCREDIBLE!! Booked Easter Brunch with family. The level of genuine care and attention from the entire staff is beyond description. The GM, Massimo, and his team incl Chef Halston, Host, Taylor and our Server, Mertha all made our visit special and memorable. Thank you!!
Excellent breakfast and incredible price for a hotel. Great service
My daughters and I went out to dinner to celebrate our move to Newport. We had great food and very personable service. We enjoyed the salmon and duck fried potato appetizer along with the trio of French olive oils and bread. My seafood bouillabaisse was very flavorful and the tuna was perfect medium rare. My daughters had the rabbit and double cheeseburger. Both were excellent. For dessert, we tried the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious. My only complaint was that the service took a long time as we were there for two hours and it was late in the evening by the time we left.
Best dining experience in Newport! Food was perfect and the service was excellent.
Beautiful setting, delicious food, lovely service.
Very nice all the way around
Had several wonderful meals at The Gwynne while staying at their hotel. Food and service were excellent. The atmosphere is classy and inviting. Tables are appropriately spaced to allow for adequate social distancing. I’d highly recommend The Gwynne.
Spectacular ambiance, superb food and polite, attentive service make this an awesome experience. Quaint bar, a historic billiard room and charm galore. Highly recommend...
The housemade gravlax was amazing. My server was kind and attentive. It was a lovely dining experience in a beautiful setting. Latte was a bit expensive and was made more like a cappuccino with a lot of foam. They did a nice job making me feel safe with covid protocol.
Incredible flavors and beautiful presentation. A very limited selection but what was offered was outstanding and plentiful. We ordered almost every appetizer to share and and few entrees. We enjoyed everything. Loved the attention to detail and the service was great.
Excellent food and service! The manager, Taylor, checked in and was very friendly and professional !
Nice place. Great for brunch. They have a refurbishment coming over the summer.
The Gwynne is a nice dining experience. They have a next level menu that is reasonably priced for the quality.
Would love for there to be more vegetarian/vegan options, but all in all, very good. Service was excellent and, when I inquired about a mushroom pasta dish, the server had the chef come out for a chat about it. Pretty cool. Not sure he'd have time to do that during the high season, but it was a nice bonus for a local on a cold winter night.
Beautiful setting, amazing service (the kindest and most accommodating server and manager), terrific food! What a great experience!
Outstanding service! Great food & ambiance near the fire
Amazing! It was our first time at the Vanderbilt and it was the perfect Sunday brunch - in fact it was in my top ten breakfasts’ ever! Beautiful cozy spot and the service was great, everyone was very friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to come back when the weather gets warmer and sit outside. Thank you.
The Valentine's day fixed price menu was delicious. Our server, Alex, was absolutely great and made our dining experience even better. He was attentive and went out of his way to make sure we had a great night. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough for a date night or special evening.
Absolutely amazing! There wasn’t anything other than exceptional about our dinner!!!
The Prime bone in rib-eye steak with broccoli was so outstanding . Their Purveyor of beef is locally sourced . My lobster pappardelle pasta.. the chefs grandmothers receipe, was so delicious . My grey goose dirty martini was spot on . Our wait staff Eric was so knowledgeable of the menu and wine list . Chef Halston is sooo talented snd makes tasty and delicious dishes . All is presented perfectly . Halston is an asset to this beautiful establishment . We wanted the whole dining experience and got it!!!! Sitting in front of the fireplace was an added bonus. A must . So romantic . This cornealius Vanderbilt mansion is rich with history !!!!
The breakfast menu was so good. I would definitely dine again
The fried egg sandwich with duck fat potatoes was absolutely incredible. The mimosas were delicious and a good balance between champagne and orange juice. The ambiance was cozy and beautiful. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We went for my boyfriend's birthday and they made it feel so special. Taylor was great and made sure to do something extra for his birthday which was in the form of a delicious dessert. It was such a wonderful experience.
Absolutely amazing! Now my favorite go to! It was beautiful and historic.
Although we walked past the Vanderbilt hotel a few times, once we finally got to our destination. We were pleased to be greeted with an awesome waitress. It wasn’t busy for 11:00 am on a Sunday which is perfect if you’re trying to social distance. The menu is short but makes up for it with their fantastic choices. We got the bacon breakfast sandwich, lobster Benedict and avocado toast, and just as fast as the food came out it was gone just the same ! Everything was delicious
5 star service and ambiance. Beautiful building and courtyard, with friendly staff. Ordered mimosas, the cheese place, the avocado toast, and the lobster eggs Benedict. The food and drinks were overpriced and the quality was not to the caliber that I was expecting. I probably wouldn’t go back for the food, maybe just for an evening cocktail.
Difficult to open the front door. Restaurant did not have a host and the table for 5 could fit about 3. When we received the menus they were limited and told we received a call stating they couldn't use the kitchen hood so all good was not cooked on grill or oven. We never received a call and had nowhere to heat on a Sunday evening. Poor service and experience overall (nice looking hotel).
Menu was super limited- probably cause of Covid - but didn’t expect dinner options to be a ham sandwich or lobster roll... they need to update website as online menu shows wonderful menu! Beautiful place though and friendly staff..
Only sandwiches and cold items available as they were awaiting a part for a fan in the kitchen.
Food and service excellent! Thank you Sophia
Wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!
Typical hotel restaurant. Did not know it was like this. We were only ones there and it took about 30min for pancakes and avocado toast to come out. Then they were rearranging furniture everywhere while we sat there. Food was good, but Probably won’t go back.
The restaurant week menu was a great value and great food. Our waitress was exceptional and very attentive. My only complaint was they burnt something in the kitchen (unsure if it was accidental or on purpose) and the smoke and smell wafted out into the dining room. I could still smell it on my jacket two days later.
Amazing breakfast menu, we got the French toast, breakfast sandwich and the lobster Benedict and everything was so yummy
