Great afternoon tea with lovely service from Elisa! Thank you so much!
We are from the US and we have to come back to London just for this restaurant. Amazing! Delicious! Service impeccable! Thank you!
Fantastic place - and shhh.. but you can also pretend you're in a Spice Girls video!
One of the best places in London. Classy yet understated. Highly recommend it.
While the table was good and not too close to the next table the actual tea experience was disappointing. The sandwiches were stAndard, run of the mill, the scones were toasted and the cakes were extremely sweet, so we didn’t finish them all as they were not particularly nice.
Service was disorganized and not attentive.
I have had much better afternoon teas for less so would not return. I had expected more
We had a lovely afternoon tea for my Birthday on Saturday. We opted for the free flowing champagne one and it was free flowing they kept us well topped up. Our waitress was soo good to. Highly recommend 😃
Good place to have afternoon tea in a historic and grand building. Seelction of sandwiches and pastries was good and the service was polite albeit a bit slow.
Four of us and an 18 month old had a Boxing Day afternoon tea. The service was fantastic and the amazing space was very suitable for a toddler to wander when he’d lost interest in the food. The food was very nice but probably would have preferred an extra sandwich and one less cake, five was too much for us although they packed up our leftovers. I’d definitely recommend but the food probably isn’t as high-end as the hotel deserves.
amazing food and beautiful setting. my only criticism is that they asked if it was a special occasion, it was our anniversary so we said yes. they brought us a plate with 3 small macaroons and 'happy anniversary' written and said it was a gift.
but after I left and checked the receipt I realised that they charged us £6 for that. I think it was a bit cheeky of them
Delicious food in a wonderful building, really nice experience! The Christmas decorations were well made and the waitress was very kind and taking great care of us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea at the Hansom. Excellent service and experience. Savoury sandwiches were lovely but slightly on the small side. Even so, I'd definitely recommend!
Overall very enjoyable afternoon tea. Service was a bit slow to start but they made a real effort to make up for that. Waitress was charming. Good selection of cakes especially and quality champagne. Great building but maybe the Hanson is slightly lacking in atmosphere.
it was lovely atmosphere, lots of choice for tea, they even offer coffee, quite modern style afternoon tea. sandwiches are so tasty, cake was nice but felt some of them are bit too rich. i felt little slow on service. overall it was fantastic time with friends
Great food and setting. Service needed to be more attentive had to keep asking for drinks even after ordering them
The afternoon tea we had wasn't the best we have ever had. We had expected more value for money.
But The Hansom is a very cosy place in a beautiful setting, convenient if you travel by Eurostar.
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Dry sandwiches, awful service in the middle of a lobby.
Will never go back.
Lisa was our waitress and she was in training but she still did a good job! Food was lovely and beautifully presented. We were given a quiet corner to sit as a family which was lovely. The only thing which we found wasn't great was trying to get anyone's attention for drinks, etc. But aside from that, it was for a birthday and was brilliant!
We arrived at the restaurant, and they claimed to have trouble finding our reservation. My boyfriend literally had to POINT on the screen to say our reservation was right there. Then they sat us at a table that was not big enough for our party of 5. They handed us lunch menus, which I thought was curious since I booked afternoon tea. When I asked for the tea menu, they informed me that my reservation was not for afternoon tea (they don’t really specify in the booking), and they tried contacting me to tell me they were full today. I was not contacted, and, in fact, confirmed my reservation 2 days before. They were eventually able to serve us afternoon tea after all, and our waiter was extremely lovely. The food was very good too.
The service was very slow, I expect as there is a minimum charge per person. However this shouldn't have mattered as we were having lunch,. In fact we probably would have spent more money had the staff been more attentive and taken our order sooner
I was denied tea said did not serve at hour booked..very disappointed
I met up with a friend visiting London from Vancouver.Shes been to London but never really had the London experience so I thought we can have a fancy afternoon tea. We arrived late but still accomodated nicely. I just thought there is not enough food? I know but I have been to Betty’s in york and my world I was speechless. But overall our ladies who served us are fantastic no doubt! The place is amazing! Will come again!
Super breakfast in a lovely atmosphere ! I love this place!
Booked via the website for a 3pm Saturday afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. Showed up on time no booking for afternoon tea and offered cocktails instead, not useful with two children. Staff sent to deal with us were incompetent at best and offered no real help except they would try to get the left overs from the VIP area! Wow that really made us feel special! NOT. Staff made no attempt at all to come up with any offers bar standing there looking totally dumb founded. Would not recommend seems like an after thought and do not make you feel special at all. Poor at best
We arrived on time having made our reservation via OpenTable, however there appeared to be little record of our reservation, the restuarant (large seating area with lounge funiture) was approx 1/3 full so we were given our choice of seating which was nice. Although the food and staff were pleasant, the seating area was largely occupied by stag and hen do's, some of whom appeared to be playing drink games. It is for the reason I would not recomment The Hansom, unless of course you are looking for a venue for a stag or hen do, in which case it will be perfect.
Wonderful celebratory sparkly afternoon tea in unique surroundings. Quintessentially British adorable venue with superb level of service. Delicious + abundant tasty treats with fabulous twist on traditional offerings such as sparkling teas + haggis scotch eggs! Thank You for making our celebration extra special 💎
We got there and they told us we couldn’t have afternoon tea because they’d had too many walk ins
I’ve had booked very spontaneous afternoon tea and the table was not quite ready which was fine but a table was found relatively quickly.
Unfortunately I had to wait 30 minutes to receive the food. I’ve ordered everything to come at once to save time but it didn’t show up.
The waitress was nice though and topped up the wine constantly. She was very nice. An Italian girl with glasses. Couldn’t get her name sadly.
Afternoon tea was good apart from the beef sandwich.
I had reserved a table for2 for lunch at 1.30pm. When I arrived, slightly before time, I noticed that many tables had reserved signs but I was led to a table without a reserved sign and right next to a pillar. The chair I tried to sit on was so close to the table I couldn't squeeze into it and it was too heavy for me to move. The 'hostess' had left immediately and I had to call her back to help me in. The same thing happened when my friend arrived. Once we had been sat into our chairs we were trapped until the time came to leave.
My sandwich was not really a sandwich. When attacked it soon became a crumbly mess.
The day before my booking I was telphoned to ask whether my booking was for lunch or afternoon tes. I pointed out that I had booked for 13.30 which seemd to me to be lunchtime. I was also reminded of the rubric on the booking acceptance - table available for two hours and a £16 minimum spend for each person. That seems to me to be a somewhat uncouth welcome to a restaurant. Particulalry since it doesn't take much to spend £16 each.
I realised afterwards that the line of tables with reserved signs along the wall were possibly held for afternoon tea customers. I think they might have been a more comfortable experience.
I will not be vusitng the Hansom Lounge again and neither will my guest.
The Hansom felt like a Hotel Lobby because it was a Hotel Lobby, the menu is like a Hotel Bar Menu, which none of the write up tells you. However, the architecture is amazing but with such a tall ceiling the atmosphere and ambience was non-existent. The service was good though as the waitress recommended to eat in the Booking Office, which had a proper menu offering and overall felt much better. Lucky escape really, but thats a bit harsh as the hotel lobby looked lovely but as a stand alone restaurant, hugely missing!
First time in this restaurant, the concierge point me to hotel reception and hotel reception point me to the restaurant reception which is a little desk in the middle of restaurant. Then they couldn’t find me on booking list. After a while I was been asked to sat anywhere I like.
We had afternoon tea, the service is really really slow. Very strange thing is, I saw everyone beside us had their afternoon tea served on three layers trays (I suppose that’s how normally the afternoon tea should be served), but ours was served separately. We had three pieces sandwiches with sausage roll and freeze Scottish egg to start with. Also, they use tea bags instead of real tea leaves so actually the taste of tea has nothing special. Until we totally finished everything, the waitress then took our plates and after quite a long time, we were been served the scones with very cheap jam and butter! You can directly tell that’s not good jam!! The scones are so big that We couldn’t finish even half of it. After we requested to have the sweets, then they took plates and serve a little potion of desserts which are simply not enjoyable!
I have to say, after been to many of the famous places for afternoon tea such as landmark, Ritz, Fortnum Mason etc, this place is absolutely disappointing from every aspect! However, to be fair, I remember there’s one waiter he’s very nice and smart!
Disappointing, poor service and over priced.
Our waitress was very knowledgeable and the perfect amount of attentiveness for afternoon tea
Had the afternoon tea - the sweets and scones were very good but we found the sandwiches very plain. Good sausage roll, though.
Booked the table for the Wednesday afternoon session, as a treat for my friend. The service , the tea and the ambiance were excellent. Unfortunately, the sandwiches were very poor quality and spoiled the afternoon.
It was obvious, that they had been pre-prepared and had been kept in the fridge. The bread was beginning to get hard and they were too cold.
The cakes were nice.
Food was delicious and our server was very attentive, making it a very special afternoon tea. Many thanks.
My wife and I have had afternoon teas at many places in London, but this one rates top. The attentiveness of the staff, the quaility of the food and drink, and the absolutely splendid environment and surroundings make it stand out.
We were there midweek and mid afternoon and had the "with champagne" option.
The sandwiches were really good, especially the mini brioche buns, and once your plate was empty you were offered more - but with the freshly baled (still hot) scones and most impressive selection of "treats" I doubt more would be needed. At all times we were encourages to linger and take our time, which was very easy to do as the leather armchairs were most comfortable.
The service was really bad unfortunately which is a shame with a nice venue like that. It took a really long time for us to get someone to take our food order, they served the wrong drink not just once but a second time as well and when we had to ask the staff for coffee menu after we had finished our lunch, no one cam to ask how the food was or asked if we wanted dessert. When we had finally got attention and asked for coffee menus we were given the afternoon tea menu - wrong menu. So we asked again and just got a whole bunch or different menus shoved at our table, wine lists, lunch menus, afternoon tea menus, story of the hansom lounge folder and the one thing we asked for - coffee menu. By that time we felt so disappointed so we skipped the £5 coffee and left. Another thing was that one tiny, tiny bottle of coke was £4, very overpriced.
Beautiful airy room. Attentive service. Attractive, tasty food.
one of the worst 5 star hotel service iv ever been. will not recommend the place to anyone. the lounge was noisy and not suitable for a cozy and romantic afternoon tea.
