the Hook & Plow - Redondo Beach
Never disappointed when we dine at Hook & Plow!
Nicely done. Overall happy with our meal. Had the skirt steak and Brussels sprouts. Outstanding. Would skip the pear burrata salad. A nice place and recommend.
Ordered steak - it came cold and no taste at all... my 12 year old daughter said it - "no taste Dad"... she was right. Coconut shrimp - no coconut! - totally inspired menu... where is the Chef? ordered bread pudding for desert - took time to bring in and then forgot our coffee... We will never come back!!!
Food is very good. The basics with a fun twist. Quality ingredients, portion size right on, healthy food is also appreciated. Perhaps a few more items on the menu, maybe?
Great Sunday brunch! Plenty of food options including breakfast and lunch items. And of course, the bottomless mimosas! We’ll be back soon!
Really enjoyed our dinner experience. Service and food we're very good. We'll be back.
I usually love there, but it was full and the service wasn’t near close what they usually provide.
Great food and service at a reasonable price. The whole Branzino fish was delicious and grilled perfectly. The Scallops on risotto was also a winner as was the clam chowder. Thank you Hook and Plow.
We sat down for lunch and had a VERY disappointing experience. We ordered 2 chicken club sandwiches, and an order of fries for the table. The fries came out and we began to nibble. We figured that the sandwiches was right behind them. Nope! The fries became cold, and we were told that the sandwiches were JUST BEING COOKED! We wanted to have all of our food come out together! The server was nice, but the overall experience was a MISS overall. VERY DISAPPOINTING! A simple lunch took 2 hours, not because of the nice slow paced conversation, but because the food was terribly paced!!
Great food, great service. Can’t wait to come back on a Wednesday night for kids eat free!
We had a large group for brunch and bottomless mimosas. Service and food were excellent. Would highly recommend!!
We ordered the special and although we did not ask the price- it was 30% higher than I ever imagined it would be... very shocked
Good experience, great location, fun ambiance. Food was good and the wait staff great. The timeliness of service was also nice.
I love the decor of the place!! It was such a pleasant experience especially since it was a Valentine's Day dinner date. My husband and I thought that the service was great and the food was delicious. I'm so happy to find this gem in our neighborhood. I can't wait to try their brunch!
Very lovely and intimate restaurant. Definitely a good place to go on a date.
We went as a family to celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Redondo location. We started with poke, oysters and crab cakes. The oysters were delicious, the poke was good as always and the crab cake was ok. My husband had pieces of shell In his piece. Next we had grilled artichoke, my daughter Had the kids grilled cheese and my husband ordered the Chilean sea bass. The artichoke was good, the grilled cheese was less than desirable for a kid. My daughter didn’t like the burnt grilled bread at all. The Chilean sea bass was wonderful but the portion was the smallest I have ever seen. For dessert we ordered the blueberry pie. I was so disappointed that the Redondo location didn’t have the pear cobbler. To be honest it was one of the reasons we came. The blueberry pie was nothing to call home about. Why make the change? This was my third time here and my families first. My husband said he wouldn’t want to come back and I was not happy at all with the food and especially the dessert.
The food is not good for the price that you pay for it.
I've been here 4 times since it's opened. I only moved here in August. It's easily my favorite place to go for a nice dinner.
Aside from an occasional bird that wandered into the entry of the restaurant, it was a very pleasant experience. The food was terrific with a very generous portion. We sat inside due to the chilly weather, and the ambiance was very good. For lunch the restaurant seems to give just the right amount of options and choices. It was great!
This is one of those restaurants that is good, but could be great. Service is lovely, ambiance is lovely, food is OK, just a little bland.
Been there many times. Don't miss out on the french fries and home made catsup!
Our server was very nice and attentive but the food was flavorless and my friend found hair in her sandwich.
Food was good, service was abysmal: I made an open table reservation and the hostess sat us after a few minutes wait. After about 5 minutes of sitting at the table without being greeted, we asked the hostess to bring us menus please. She brought us only one, then came back a few minutes later with another menu saying it was such a crazy day. It wasn’t a crazy day btw-there were still a lot of open tables. Overall, our server was unfriendly and overwhelmed (as thought it were crazy busy) and she kept forgetting my requests. She never came to check if we needed anything or to see how our food was. On multiple occasions, I had to ask another server for help including asking for a part of my entree that they just forgot altogether. Even the manager couldn’t remember simple requests which meant I had to ask multiple times from various people. Many other tables around us were also exasperated at the service or rather a lack thereof. Food was good, but the awful service was enough for us to never come back. I’m sad I feel this way because I was so excited H&P opened up in Redondo. On top of the terrible service, the bathroom was dirty.
I have been to the Hook and Plow in Hermosa Beach and have always loved it. The service at the Redondo Beach location was impeccable, however, the location set-up was a little scarce. Tables were tiny and not a lot of seating choices. We ordered the risotto and it was a little too buttery and creamy for our taste. The scallops served with it however were amazing. All in all we will def be back. Service is EVERYTHING 💕
Food was excellent, with one exception. I ordered cassoulet, one of my favorite dishes, which is normally a rich slow-cooked casserole. I received a bowl of white beans and some slices of beef, in a watery broth. Tasted good, but not cassoulet.
We specifically picked Thursday for their Tomahawk. The three of us shared it and took leftovers. The grits were a great addition even though the steak came with three sides. Service was great and the evening enjoyable
The restaurant is great, and I would definitely recommend it to others. The food was also great. The only reason for 4 stars instead of five is that we felt a bit rushed. We felt a bit under pressure to order fast, and to leave as soon as we were done. Also, we felt a bit of pressure to order more drinks. Our server was polite and sweet, but just in a little bit too much of a hurry to turn tables. Don't want to blame her, as it could be a restaurant policy. We like leisurely meals, and if it wasn't for the pressure, this restaurant would have got five stars from us. But it's new, and there's always room for improvement. Thank you!
The sides were excellent, the salad was outstanding but we did have some problems getting the burgers cooked to our specifications. Service was excellent and the beers offered were tasty
Lunch was pretty good but dinner is very good!!
Food great,, atmosphere very nice. The service is not up to par with entree at around $30 per person. Friendly service but not really professional enough.
Ordered the scallop risotto, it’s an absolute must off of the dinner menu!
Fantastic service and delicious food !!
The filet mignon was excellent, and the panko broccoli was to die for. Definitely recommend this place for date night/romantic dinner.
Taco Tuesday rocks! The tacos were amazing - lobster and steak!! Loved the grits and Brussels sprouts and the French fries were amazing!! Two thumbs up!!!!
Birthday lunch... staff was very accommodating and the menu was good. We’ll go back!
Birthday done well
Great food everytime we go for breakfast or dinner. I even threw a bday brunch with a larger party and they were easy to work with. Our guests loved their food, mimosas & coffee! Nice staff too.
Hostess & server were great. It was a busy evening. Entrees ordered were good. Ordered the cheese platter to share & was very disappointed. Lots of bread, charred. Very, very small portions of cheese & felt over priced & poor value at $21.
Would return for another visit but with a lot of choice of restaurants in the vicinity, probably not an immediate go to if looking for value.
I will not be going back anytime soon. Way too expensive for mediocre food. If you go there you must sit outside because the noise level inside is so loud that having a conversation will turn into a scream fest.
I really enjoyed the food and the service is extremely friendly and excellent!
