Expected too much probably, food is okey and the service is really bad the staff not very polite and too smug maybe as we are just simple customers not a high end one. Also booked for a table in the garden or terrace due to tier 2 already indicated this but still gave us the table indoors. They said it opens 12noon and i thought if we booked it early they will give us the table in the terrace or garden. Not gonna come back.
Amazing decor, excellent service and fab food. Moved from the stunning garden at the back to indoors - bit nippy in October.
Everything was great as usual, just a little disappointed where we were seated.
The perfect setting for lunch with two of my granddaughters. We were fortunate to have a table in the garden. The setting was magical despite rain. Service was excellent and the garden covered efficiently. Cannot wait to go back.
After spending a wonderful anniversary meal, we returned to celebrate a family birthday. Sadly not quite as successful. The restaurant was cold, as was my soup and one waiter wearing an outdoors jacket while serving), the service initially was slow, the waiter sarcastic and ultimately rude (perhaps without realising it), but improved after a quiet, but forceful word with the general manager. The restaurant is still beautiful and buzzing, but the experience certainly dented my appetite too return again
Staff on arrival were very unwelcoming and seemed only focused on telling us we would have to leave within an hour and a half, even though the restaurant was empty. The whole place was freezing - the greenhouse outside was drafty and inside they had the doors open and air con on even though it was the end of October. Our waiter seemed nice enough but then I saw him roll his eyes to another waiter about some other customers in the restaurant. All in all, not a very pleasant atmosphere. The only saving grace was that the food was pretty good. I have been to a few of the Ivy branches and this was definitely the worst.
It was absolutely freezing where we were sitting - on a banquette just before entering the conservatory. I sat in my coat with fur collar for the whole meal. I didn't want to complain as it was a treat for my 15 year old daughter and I didn't want to ruin the experience for her - we don't get to go out to restaurants like this often. I would have thought staff might have noticed and checked if we were okay.
The waiter wasn't very helpful when I asked could I exchange the fried egg on my Chicken Milanese for a tiny portion of pasta (I don't like fried eggs and keep my gluten intake to a minimum, hence only wanting a tiny portion of pasta). He said no! I could pay for a small portion of pasta which I believe was almost £8. I decided to go for another option instead which was disappointing.
There seems to be a lot of complaints regarding the cold and issues with rude staff which you don't comment on. The idea of feedback is that you use it to make improvements.
You should warn people that it will be cold in the part of the restaurant near the opening to the conservatory and provide blankets and heaters or offer another table at booking.
I have put No to the recommend question below for the reasons stated above.
We weren’t made to feel very welcome when the staff found out we only wanted a drink. This was inspite of the restaurant being half empty. As a regular I was a little disappointed.
While I love the Ivy for it's food and ambience, this is the second time wait staff has been unattentive and ignored me. I waited for more than 25 minutes before someone approached my table to take my order and that only happened because I called reception and told them I'm sitting inside the restaurant and still waiting on service.
Love it here, think it's the nicest of all the Ivy brasseries. Great food, service and atmosphere.
I loved the whole experience- I went for Sunday Brunch with a friend. The service from the staff was exceptional and the food was amazing.
We had 3 courses and drinks - cost very reasonable.
I will be going again.
I realised that it was obviously shown on my booking but I was surprised when the waiter told us in no uncertain terms that the booking was for 1.5 hours. We ate our starter, main course and had just ordered our third glass of wine each when the waiter put the dessert menu down and told us we couldn’t order the apple tart as that took 15 minutes and we didn’t have enough time at which point the bill was put down. Having spent nearly £120 for two I felt rather cheated that I was unable to actually relax and enjoy! I know we are in difficult times but surely 2 hours is not too much to ask.
I have been to The Ivy Chelsea Garden a number of times - great food, beautiful restaurant and lovely atmosphere, but I am always disappointed with the service, every single time. My sister had called in advance to say she would be bringing her baby. With the baby and the added pressure of Covid rules, there was a long queue at the door and there was no social distancing in the queue. As soon as she entered she was made to feel that her baby's pram was a problem. Instead of being accommodating of the baby and offering to help, the staff were pressurising her to move her pram, before she had even settled down. Throughout the meal the service was poor and generally unfriendly. My sister had to leave the table for about half an hour to feed her baby and instead of offering to keep the food warm in the kitchen (which I would expect), the staff just kept glancing questioningly at her food and eventually asked (not very politely) "is she coming back?" The service at the other branches is fine, in particular Kensington Brasserie. It's unfortunate that everything else is great in the Chelsea Branch, but the staff members are not trained in basic etiquette, courtesy and friendly service and therefore ruin the whole experience. A smile wouldn't hurt and could make all the difference.
Lovely, low key birthday. Service was great as always.
We requested a table outside and under cover and they obliged 😃. We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating our daughter's birthday!
Another perfect trip to the ivy in Chelsea. Lovely outdoor seating area perfect for catching up with friends. The food portion was huge (chips wer not needed with the eggs benedict, but all good!) White got chocolate was amazing and staff were friendly throughout.
Great ambiance, food is delicious and professional service
Service was rushed for obvious reasons, but we were warned before sitting down. However, nice food and selection made up for this. Maybe these top London restaurants need to just think about the whole experience a bit more.....ultimately, it’s the overall memory that remains.
Poor experience unfortunately. Cut our meal short as said we couldn’t have desserts as only 20 mins left. I asked if there was a reservation after and the lady ensured us they was (when there wasn’t). We then got moved outside in the rain to finish our drinks and told we couldn’t order desserts even though other tables were still having food delivered to their tables outside. We also had a waiter abruptly question our bill - and told we hasn’t paid when we had it was just £2 short of the service. All a bit discounting to be honest and there was lots of free tables inside that we could have moved to but was not suggested at all, even after asking.
Beautiful setting. Food was good. Service was excellent.
Excellent food and service as always, the staff are always wonderful, however, we were put outside at the very back, and it was incredibly windy and wet with no side cover (Saturday night). We would have appreciated being pre-warned that we were being sat outside. In usual circumstances, we wouldn't have minded at all, but the weather was a little extreme to be dining al fresco in such an exposed area.
food and ordering was extremely rushed, had a feeling that waiters just want you to eat as quickly as possible and leave again so they can give the table to the next person and make profit, different waiters showed up several times just to stress you out to and eat faster so they can quickly bring the next course, in the end they basically tell you to get tf out because your time slot is up, most awkward and rude service experience I have had in London so far
Overall a lovely lunch thanks to company and the setting, the restaurant service was lacking, lots of chatter and very entertaining but the actual service was unproductive. I was served the wrong cooked steak and had to wait as my party all had their food and I was left while my order was recooked.. asked for an ice bucket on the table or close-by and there seemed to be a misunderstanding among staff on if that was possible. It wasn’t really worth the price we paid and no acknowledgement on the bill of the fact that meals were incorrect and we were rushed though our sitting, despite the fact we didn’t sit till 16:15 (our booking was 16:00) and meals were served inconsistently.
The steak was really chewy and bad quality. My husband would not be visiting this restaurant again unfortunately:-(
Manager has been exceptional and kind. He really made the difference.
Amazing food and atmosphere and the service was fantastic.
Deservedly am institution with great location , ambience and service. And not as expensive as one might fear. Enjoyed the cottage pie and white onion soup The bread and the fig dessert were less successful but overall a nice meal and a place to return to.
Very good service from our waiter. Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked. Tables spaced correctly and attractive decor. Altogether a very nice brunch and we shall recommend The Ivy to our friends.
It was nice but food serving was very big and the courgette fritters were too greasy .
The trimisu was excellent
Bianca was absolutely amazing when I met and talked with her. Want to be sure that ivy management is aware of her outstanding customer service approach and professionalism. She is superb.
Maybe check main courses before they reach the table as we had to send two back as they were cold
One of the best restaurants we’ve been to in London. Would recommend to everyone.
Lovely ambiance , and starters were good , however we ordered the fish and chips and there was so much batter on the fish you could hardly find any fish! Very greasy too.
Brilliant service and food great atmosphere
It was fine but we were asked to leave and told that the other clients were waiting to sit down which was not true a bit tacky as very quite
I used to love the IVY but its not great anymore its a chain and nothing special anymore
very sad its not because of Covid
Thank God there removed the cheap nasty looking artificial flowers from out side they were not classie
Service was lovely, atmosphere was stunning. It was very loud but this wasn’t an issue. Me and my friend sat outside, and even though she was late, we were allowed to stay past 90 mins, which was lovely of the staff.
For the price, the food wasn’t bad, but I definitely expected better from the renowned Ivy brand. My friend got the Ivy burger, with cheese and bacon it came to £20. She said it was okay, though I saw she left the bread and some filling. Her raspberry mojito was quite sour, but okay. Her tiramisu was nice.
I got the buffalo mozzarella for a starter (nice, what it says on the tin), watermelon salad for the main was very below-average, my creme brûlée was nice, and my salted caramel expresso martini was nice. All in all, the food was okay, but didn’t reflect the spectacular decor of the restaurant.
The veggie/vegan separate menu deceives you into thinking there is a lot of choice when there isn’t. The veggie mains are all ones you can make at home or get any any other restaurant; I went for the watermelon salad as it was slightly different.
Maybe if you’re looking to get a steak, this is a good restaurant to go to. Lovely ambience and lots of choice. But, for a basic burger and for vegetarians, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Extremely judgemental staff. Insisted that they had a 1.5 hour limit for keeping your table but saw plenty of other people who arrived at the same time allowed to stay and not rushed out of the door.
Was originally seated in a virtually empty back room, when I asked to move I was made to feel it was impossible despite plenty of empty tables in the main restaurant that were filled with other diners minutes later - I don’t understand what policy they use to decide who sits where but it felt like snobbery from the staff.
Food was fine but evening was ruined by the service and judgement.
One of my daughters was violently ill after the meal. Her chicken Milanese tasted off. I am a regular at many ivys over the last 5 years but have noticed a distinct deterioration ver the last year. This chicken sobs has been very poor in Leeds , Harrogate and Chelsea over the last year. Debating whether the ambience makes up for the deteriatong food quality
The food was really delicious. The chocolate bomb was the best. The service was grate, the COVID-19 discipline was reassuring. The price was a little tippy, but that’s London. Would I go back and would I recommend anyone else... Yes.
From the moment my lady and me arrived,we felt welcomed, the host and hospitality was exceptional 10 out of 10.The food from breakfast to desert and also the drinks were amazing and mind blowing.I can definitely see us both returning for either breakfast, lunch or even dinner. Our overall experience was magnificent.
