The food was very good and the portion size was about right but the service was on the slow side.
Staff were very friendly and asked if everything was ok so well looked after once the food arrived.
Really lovely family outing to The Mint. Incredibly bright and smiley server, who is apparently usually kept in the kitchen. Great roasts all rounds and especially tasty parsnips!
Friendly staff, nice food and reasonably priced.
Great food and service from Andrew
Enjoyable lunch. Our waiter Andrew was polite and efficient. The food was good.
The whole visit was awful we arrived at the mint on time with our reservations number and they had no knowledge of it on their computer system they said it had no been sent to them . We waited over an over for a table the lady behind the bar asked if we could put our food order in whilst we wait for a table , two starters were brought out to us whilst we waited in the bar they were took back and then came back out to us stone cold 15 minutes later once we had our table they took them back to make them again whilst the rest of our party ate theirs which ment we all ate at different times . The offered us free drinks as a geasture but we had to ask for them twice as they did not arrive the whole experience was terrible and it totally ruined Mother’s Day for me when I asked to speak to the manageress who had been hiding behind the bar she just said sorry you can have free drinks no acceptable at all
Food was ok but a bit expensive. Large confusion over bill
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was very friendly and helpful. We weren't rushed, so we had time to digest our main courses before we decided on desserts. Both my friend and I have been to the Mint on many occasions and it never fails to please.
Went with my partner for a Valentines meal.
Terrible service, did not get served any food in the end. We asked after 40 minutes where our food was and it turns out they forgot about us and hadn't even started making our starters, so we decided to leave and eat elsewhere.
Table booked and confirmed through Open Table website yet when we arrived at the restaurant our booking was not showing on their system; our table was booked for 7pm and they had a table for us anyway. We had starters which were okay but at 8:30 pm we still had not had our main meal brought out to us. When it finally came out only 4 out of the 5 meals arrived and I had to wait a further 20 minutes for my meal making my family feel awkward for eating their food while I was still waiting!
My daughter had a hair in her starter and again in her main meal. Prawns ordered as a side dish were presented in a dirty bowl and were inedible. The manager needs to brush up on the delivery of his customer service.
We all hardly touched our food yet left with stomach aches through an awful experience!
Good pub food with a lovely open fire and mulled wine which is perfect for a winters day.
Excellent service and food!
Lovely atmosphere. Git busier the longer we were there. One if our party had to ask a second time after waiting for a glass of water. Also a voucher we had was not taken off the bill originally but was quickly rectified. We were advised that the table would be needed but was given plenty of time to organise paying the bill.
After many years of reasonable but cold food and dreadful service, it seems that The Mint has finally sorted this problem out. I brought my Mum here for lunch last Sunday. We were greeted and seated promptly at a nice table in the cosy bar area. We were offered drinks and the menu in good time and although there was still quite a wait between courses, the quality of the food made this acceptable as the food was nice and hot. The staff were very friendly and attentive and we will definitely return.
Nie enough but the service was pretty chaotic - slow and getting lots of things confused. The Mint needs to organise themselves and train their staff better
I've been to The Mint many times & always had very good food & service, therefore when friends from Devon said they'd like to take me out for dinner & asked for a recommendation I chose this pub. The wine experience marred the evening rather totally, which was embarrassing as they were paying. My friend ordered a bottle of red wine, when it arrived it was extremely cold, as though it had come straight from the fridge. He asked if it could be put into the microwave for no more than 20 seconds. When the bottle came back some time later it was too hot to touch & when it was finally cool enough to open, steam came out & it was too hot to drink, apparently it had been put on the hotplate. When we complained, they had the grace to replace it, albeit with a different wine as there was no more of the one he'd ordered available. On neither occasion did the waiter open the bottle & serve the wine, as has been done on all previous visits. As a guest I was embarrassed, and as a Mitchell & Butler's shareholder I was appalled, that a chef & a waiter knew so little about wine that they could do this. If I hadn't already booked & paid a deposit for Christmas Eve I would be taking my custom elsewhere.
We have been to the Mint on a number of occasions and enjoyed the experience but not on 1st August
Firstly as one of our party had soup we had to wait a long time for our main meals, my husbands dish of sea bass was very disappointing for the price .
I enjoyed my steak and mushroom pie meal but two others thought that some of the meat was tough.
We had to wait ages for our puddings!
The desserts of ice cream (small portions ) were not good value for money
So all in all a disappointing meal experience
Went for Father's Day 4pm lunch, food quality was very good!
Service was slow.
Far too hot inside they need to improve air circulation with AC and fans
Lovely welcoming country pub and excellent dinner.
very good service, food, everything. I really felt relaxed thank you.
I wouldn't know as The Mint had no knowledge of my booking and they said OpenTable were always sending them bookings when they were full
Nice spot, nice food. OpenTable booking not received (known and regular issue I was told!), lucky they still had space for us.
The food was good but they didn't have our open table reservation. They did find us a nice table however so no damage done but be careful when booking via open table as there is obviously a problem with the information getting to the Mint
Upon arrival we waited to be acknowledged even though the manager was facing us but took no notice. Then he said Someone will be with you shortly. The he said Looks like its me then . I told him I had a booking and pointed to my phone where I had confirmation. He told me he didnt have the booking. Then he told us We were in luck because there had been a cancellation ! We were put on a big table stuck round the back by the kitchen on its own .
We ordered a Sunday platter for 2 which arrived but no plates . The girl said Would you like plates ? I said Well yes of course . She brought over 2 small saucers . I laughed and said Can we have dinner plates . She said Im not sure we have any . After a while she came out with 2 bowls which I think had been in a freezer they were that cold . I said Havent you got hot plates she said No but you can wait while we heat them up. We waited ages for warm bowls ( not plates ) and then put our cold food on them. I couldnt complain anymore . We had already eaten half the food while we were waiting anyway. There was one very pleasant waiter who was very apologetic and seemed he would have been efficient but we didnt have him til after food was served.
After a disastrous Christmas Day lunch there last year I think Im done with the Mint which used to be my favourite place once upon a time .
What is the point in booking if it counts for nothing . What would have happened if there hadnt been a cancellation ?
Thanks for asking for a review .
We were pleasantly surprised on this visit, having had "not so good" experience on a couple of previous visits. The service was very good,, the meal was a very generous size ( duck supper) and we had a really good evening.
A great country pub.. Friendly service and reliable food.. Wonderful place to spend a few hours.
We are lucky to have this little place on our doorstep..
However when I booked thru open table .. We arrived as planned - but no trace of our reservation even though I had e mail confirming everything!
