The Old Courthouse

The food was delicious! I enjoyed everything on my plate. The wine that was suggested paired great with dinner. Excellent service. Will definitely return.

This was our first experience at the old Courthouse. I am not sure why we have never gone before. The food and the service were outstanding and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to return soon.

We’ve driven past the Old Courthouse for years and finally decided to try it. Boy have we missed out! Nice atmosphere, great service and the food was great. Woul highly recommend giving it a try.

Perfect evening, but they didn’t have the lamb chops. How come I didn’t get points?

Excellent food that is delicious and hot when served. The dining room is quiet and nicely decorated with a warm feeling. We have eaten there several times and never feel rushed.

Do not miss this gem in Newport. We eat here often and have never had a bad meal. Everything is scratch made, the menu is simple but varied, the service is excellent and everyone is friendly and welcoming. It is a small but comfortable dining room, almost like eating at home without having to do the dishes! Try the brunch, also, the orange rolls are simply delicious!

I ordered pan seared scallops for 18$ with a side salad
Received a nice presentation of five scallops (only one of which was prepared properly ) the side salad was the same as my wife’s but I received a 7$ up charge for mine.

Didn’t have any starch (potatoes, rice or pasta come with the plates ?

The atmosphere was fantastic. Her food fantastic. My food or lack there of was not.

Hostess/waitress/bartender was very nice,friendly and attentive came back with water three times.

Lovely room, attentive service. Three of us for lunch and we all truly enjoyed the chicken salad croissant and a spinach and tomato omelet! Certainly will return!

Everything was outstanding but we were disappointed that one of the appetizers was out of stock due to the success of the past weekend.

A creative menu, locally sourced ingredients, and fine food preparation made the dining experience awesome. The chef's skill was apparent, and the service excellent as always. A quiet setting for fine dining makes this a special place.

The service was extraordinary! The food was the best meal we have ever had in a dinning out experience. My Steak was cooked perfectly as was my husband's rack of lamb. Such a peaceful setting and everyone around us seemed so relaxed and happy. We really like that the menu changes each month. We will definitely be making The Courthouse our go-to for date nights.

We had booked a table for 5 but when we arrived they did not have the table ready and eventually we had to be crammed into a small table that was set for 4 people. Hence, getting to our food and keeping glasses on the table was very difficult. There were plenty of vacant tables in the restaurant.

It was a great experience, good food, many choices for a buffet, great service. It felt a little crowded table wise, but not all the tables were used so it was "ok".

It was a very quiet evening and the meal we had was fantastic.

As always, our visit to The Courthouse was wonderful. The brunch buffet was filled with delicious choices, and the service was outstanding. We always enjoy eating at The Courthouse!

Very friendly staff and the head chef is really good. We have been there on a number of special occasions and have always been pleased.

This was my first visit. Probably not the best occasion for a review since the dinner was a special Winter Carnival event. The service staff dis an excellent job of maneuvering between the tables. The noise level was higher than I like at a dinner, but again, this was a special event. Can't wait to go back for a regular event.

I have been in town for several years, but never visited The Old Courthouse Restaurant. I'm so glad I finally did! We had a wonderful dinner with apple fritters for an appetizer, a crispy fresh Caesar salad with the most delicious croutons I've ever tasted! My partner had a chicken dish, which he said was very good; and I had the baked stuffed shrimp, and it was absolutely yummy. For dessert we both had a perfect crème brûlée and coffee. From start to finish, our server was fantastic, both attentive and intuitive. We will definitely be visiting The Old Courthouse again!

This is one of our favorite restaurants!

The noise level was pretty high as there was an event at the opera house and many people were having dinner before the event; but as soon as everyone started leaving, the more typical quiet pervaded the room. Our waitress was the only one working that evening, but you would never have guessed this was the situation. She was pleasant, quick, and attentive -- another great dining experience at The Old Courthouse!

This was our third visit and we were here for their soul food dinner. Senie Hunt was phenomenal!! Everyone here is lovely and very hospitable, and we really want to love it, but the food and service is just so lacking. The black-eyed peas and collards were the best part of the meal. The pork was tough and dry, the mac & cheese was dry and lacked flavor. The “southern fried chicken”, which was what I was so excited for, was absolutely not fried, definitely not crispy, and so very not southern. It was soggy, boneless, breast tenders. The grits were well cooked but the shrimp was clearly frozen, over cooked and tough. They had pie for dessert which was either pumpkin or sweet potato. The crust was overworked and tough. The pie filling was grainy and so very over spiced that it clobbered everything else and you couldn’t tell which main ingredient actually was, and the caramel drizzle was gritty.
The servers are very lovely, but we were constantly out of water and beverages, which was odd because it was a buffet and their only job was taking care of beverages. The venue is beautiful, but I just can’t find any reason to come back based on our three trips here.

Atmosphere was quiet, relaxing and sophisticated but not overdone. The service was friendly but not intrusive. Both the scallops and haddock were excellent. I only wish there were more selections to choose from. The only negative aspect to the entire experience was the rather loud beeping from the kitchen (I assume it was from some kind of timer.) It was a bit distracting. We will be back1

It was disappointing that they ran out of the roast beef roast at the brunch. We had a 12:15 reservation and we didn’t get any beef.😕

We have been to the Courthouse several times every time has been wonderful! The staff is great and on top of everything. The food is great, omelets to order, waffles with real maple syrup or whipped cream and strawberries! No matter how many guests are enjoying their brunch the food never runs out fresh food is brought out to the table. The staff is also very friendly as well, they always stop to chat but are not annoying in any way. Come out and enjoy!

The Old Courthouse never fails to please. The food is reliably good, the staff warm and accommodating. When we have a special event to celebrate, it's the place. Many girlfriends have gathered for a birthday lunch or a dinner choice after an event in town. Out of town guests frequently ask to treat us to dinner as a way of saying thanks.....we suggest The Old Courthouse and then they say THANKS! If you've never been, try it. If you have been, we've probably seen you there as no one can go just once.

Pleasant Thanksgiving meal. We both started with salads that were fresh. I had the classic (turkey & dressing) & she had the scallops. Plentiful portions but not too much. Very delicious. Service was a little slow but ok for a relaxing meal. We enjoy this restaurant and will be back.

We brought my NYC parents-in-law for a birthday celebration for brunch and it was outstanding, from beginning to end. Maria did a great job, Mitchell's piano playing was just the perfect touch and the food was wonderful. We will definitely be returning :)

Very nice brunch with a good variety of choices and custom omelets. Live guitar background music. Relaxing and pleasant experience. Not our first time, and we will be back again.
