Never, Our water glasses were never refilled. The crab cake was not lump but bread and over mixed shredded crab, the rack of lamb was asked for medium and it was dry and well done. one vegetarian noodle dish which came with shrimp and scallops which were removed and charged the same price. Two of us ordered the same soup one came steaming hot and the other lukewarm. for the service, food quality, cost and sitting on chairs that were too low for the table (the petit women) made the meal uncomfortable. Of the four drinks served one had flat soda. all in all, I have had 2 bad experiences so I will never return. This was the first time some of my family came to see my new home in Lenox and it was my son and daughter in laws 25th anniversary so I was hoping for it to be special.....instead it was dissapointing
OK, it is brunch, and that is fine, but for almost no expense you could provide bread and butte/olive oil as every other restaurant I have eaten in does.
It's a lovely atmosphere, of course, outside (though in a spacious tent) at beautiful Jacob's Pillow. I do wish there was at least one vegetarian option in the entree category. We created a vegetarian meal by ordering the nice, but cold assortment of appetizers, and side dishes of asparagus and potatoes.
The old Inn on the Green has always had excellent food and service. Their seasonal spin off at Jacobs Pillow, in the tent, is a very attractive venue. The tables are well spaced, the staff is pleasant, if a bit under seasoned. The menu is limited but varied and the food is very well prepared. It is a welcome addition to the Pillow, especially since there are few dining options nearby.
One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. When I pointed out that there was a spider on my napkin, the server put the napkin on the ground to set it free and then put it back rather than giving me a new one until the manager saw and replaced it. The food was inedible. Do not go here.
We ordered the lobster roll and Niçoise salad. The salad was fresh and tasty. The lobster roll was served with cole slaw and what I think was potato salad. Even though menu said home fries. I mentioned this and they brought home fries, which tastes like someone just dumped Cajun seasoning on them and they were cold.
It was clear the potatoes for the home fries and salad were cut the same maybe at the same time. Neither dish was appetizing. The cole slaw was too creamy and was missing the characteristic sweet/vinegar taste. The lobster roll looked good but it was evident they had grilled an already stale roll. Had a hard time chewing the roll. We had cheesecake and that was “free” due to the disappointment of other food.
That was delicious!!
Luke was our server and was pleasant and a good worker. The gentleman who delivered our food, however, was ignorant of service rules, which you would think the staff would have mastered by mid August.
The place could use someone who pays attention to details both In food and dining room.
I am a chef with extensive offsite catering experience and teach dining room at a culinary school and was not impressed.
I also did not see people utilizing hand trays for small items, instead they walked out with small items in their fists.
Please inject some class into this establishment. When JP ran the unit years ago it was classy and the food was good.
It really is not hard, we do it under tents working out of Cambros in the back of a van, using folding tables and one small stove.
If you are going to a show, it is a great option to enjoy dining under the tent. The menu only has a few options but an interesting mix. I had salmon and my friend had lamb. The wait staff did not seem very experienced and couldn’t describe how the salmon was cooked. I think it was baked. But luckily it was tender and flavorful. My friend’s lamb was perfect. Several good dessert options - we had a chef prepared cheesecake which took a while to come out but was fantastic. Served with berries and honey. It wasn’t a full tent but service was on the slow side. Definitely give yourself an hour and half before a show.
This is a consistently excellent dining experiences. I look forward to it every time and have never been disappointed!
Friendly, helpful wait staff. Our dinners arrived well in time for our curtain. The food is reliably good.
I got a phone call from restaurant few hours before my reservation time and was told they are canceling my reservation due to private event.
Seriously?? that is kind of service they offer. Would not wish anyone to have bad experience as mine.
Reserved a table well in advance for 6:30 on a performance night. After we were shown to our table, it took a while for a server to appear with menus. Things went downhill from there. We had to raise our hands to get a server to take our order. We requested bread twice, and when it did finally come, it was without any butter or oil. The first course -- clam chowder -- was badly watered down. Then, the main course didn't come for a long while. Server appeared to be actively turning her head away from us. When main courses did arrive (55 mins after we'd ordered them) they were no longer hot. My course was a basic charity banquet "rubber chicken," served luke warm. Restaurant offered to comp dessert, but at that point we feared missing our 8pm curtain., and there was no time to order it with any confidence that it would be served with enough time to eat it. Prices are not cheap either: Main courses were in the $30s. Summary: overpriced, poor food, served poorly and indifferently. This is the first time I have ever given a zero tip, in many decades of dining out as a grown-up person. "You're stuck here and have noplace else to go" cannot be a business model for running a restaurant. Skip this place and bring a bologna sandwich to eat in the car. You'll be better off.
This is a beautiful setting and very relaxing. My husband and I ordered different omelettes, both were flavorless except for an over abundance of green peppers in mine. They should experiment with herbs for flavor. The French Toast was delicious. We will return because of the setting and convenience but wish food was better.
A perfect place before a performance at the Doris Duke or Ted Shawn or after Inside/Out.
Our waiter, Jonathan, was delightful.
The food here is elegant and comes in very large portions--be careful about over-ordering. The ambiance is peaceful and airy--under a big white tent, with plenty of space between the tables. We arrived early but the staff were very welcoming, especially a lead waitress who saw to it that we had everything we wanted. Best dish was the night's special: foie gras parfait--delicious foie, a crisp, buttery set of toast, and a sharp, bright-tasting fruit chutney . These people really know what they're doing--a 300% improvement over previous restaurants at the Pillow. Reserve way in advance if you want to eat around 6:00.
Food was barely edible. I ordered the lobster roll. It was all roll and very little lobster. My guest could not eat anything on her mezze platter. Very disappointing. Second time.
Please note that because of a fall and injury suffered in the hours before our reservation we had to cancel, directly with the restaurant. So my review on the prior page is not based on actually dining there.
The lobster roll was so good, we had another one for dessert!
Beautiful ambiance right near to the Ted Shawn Theatre with delicious food and attentive service.
The lamb I had was tough. The side dishes were at best mediocre . The salads were ill conceived.
The venue is lovely (we were lucky with the weather) as was the waitstaff. We had the best lobster roll I have had all summer!!
Service was hit or miss. Had to ask twice for bread, which only became available after our salad plate, when it would have gone better. We ordered the salad plate ‘to share’. The server dropped off the bowl on top of a plate , which looked to us as the intended way to serve the dish. So we had to ask for another plate to allow us to share. Most better venues will set two dishes out and then the dish to be shared. Even better when they split the dish for us, instead of making us portion the food. The main dishes were relatively simple, but in both cases (a roast chicken and a roast pork dish) they managed to over cook the main ingredient to the extent of leaving the meat dry and tasteless. The vegetables and sides were all very good, leaving us to believe the person in charge of the meats needs a replacement. We skipped dessert as we had no further desire to find out how good or bad the dessert chef might be.
Our observation of all the wait staff was that many of them seemed not very happy, going through the motions as it were, and this was reflected in the service we received. We had high hopes for the elegant restaurant at Jacob’s Pillow, now we just have hopes that they find a new vendor to partner with next season.
Performance at Jacobs Pillow
Recommend, with some reservations. We were there on a blazing hot and humid day, and found the tent cool, shady and welcoming. We were greeted fairly promptly, and seated at a nice table with a view of the Barn.
Waitress brought menus and water, then disappeared. We had to flag someone down to order drinks, and eventually were able to place our orders. I had a vegetable omelet (described as with roasted red pepper, spinach, onion and tomato). It seemed like a pretty small omelet - maybe just 2 eggs? No red pepper, instead there was chopped raw green pepper, not a good combo. Some cheese would have been a good addition. A small portion of home fries served on the side. We asked for some kind of bread or baguette to go with, but were told there was none available - despite french toast being on the menu. My glass of Cremant d'Alsace was very nice, if pricey at $12. Overall, not bad, and not terrific either. It's such a shame - they have a wonderful opportunity there to be a positive addition to everyone's time at the Pillow.
Where to have a good mean at or near Jacobs Pillow has always been a question, and the Old Inn on the Green provides this season's answer. It's a good one. Dining is under a tent with comfortably spaced tables and attentive waiter service. The menu choices range from cold small plates for a hot night to big meat and fish dishes. There are less expensive and less elegant options on the Pillow grounds, but we felt the prices were fair for what we got and the meal provided a relaxing start to a terrific evening of ballet. We will definitely book there again on our next visit.
The wedge salad was enough for 4. Lobster roll was good, chicken a little dry & shrimp was mealy.
Having previously worked in hospitality, I was in genuine awe at the level of food and service that was available... and from a tent nonetheless! This being my first time at the Pillow, I made reservations for Friday, and was so pleased with my meal, that I returned the next night to sample more dishes on the menu. It was an incredible luxury to have such a lovely dinner accompany an equally amazing performance - again, profuse thank you for all the hard work that is put in to bring The Old Inn to the Pillow.
New chef is a great change
I took my 5 year old daughter to her first dance performance and we began with brunch. The service was great. The food was yummy. The ambiance makes the price tag worth it. My little asked me if we were at a wedding. It is that lovely.
The food service at the Jacobs Pillow venue was poor. I expect more from Old Inn on the Green which is one of our favorite restaurants in the Berkshires.
I loved the ambiance and the proximity to Jacob's pillow. The service was fine but the menu surprisingly lack any vegetarian main dishes. What fancy restaurant in 2019 does not have vegetarian choices? I ordered all the 'side' vegetable dishes, but the mixed colored carrots and asparagus were 'tired' and over cooked.
We have eaten here before & it has been better & we eat at their New Marlboro restaurant which we love. We’re aware of the challenge of the location & getting patrons out in time for a performance. However, this was beyond poor at quite a high price. The service was practically non-existent & downright rude & surly. We waited 40 min. for entrees to arrive after our 1st courses & having to flag staff down to be told they were on their way (not!). My friend & I ordered rack of lamb, 3 tepid, fatty chops for $38, barely edible. As bad as this was, the worst part of the experience was the very poor service.
Overcooked, dry, previously prepared chicken that was tasteless. Very disappointing for what could have been a great experiences. I suppose the freshly prepared egg dishes would have been better but who knew that the chicken would have been prepared so far in advance of the brunch/lunch hat it was tasteless, room temperature, dry and overcooked. What's really irksome is that we asked our waitress what she thought of the chicken dish and she recommended it highly!
Our reservation was at 6 PM. We all arrived on time. We ordered wine and then ordered our food. The appetizers arrived and were eaten. At 7:20 I realized that we hadn’t been served our main courses. Our waiter came over and said he would check. Our food finally came out at 7:40. The lamb came out raw and there was no time to cook them through. He took them home. The manager came over and offered to pay for our desserts but there was no time for that as the performance was to start at 8. No other accommodation was offered. Before we got our food we requested the bill which took 20 minutes to come and it was the wrong bill so again we had to wait. All the food however was good. We spoke to others at the performance who had similar but not as radical experiences. Lovely venue, delicious food but they’ve got to get their act together.
The food and the service, with the exception of the food runners, were both excellent. Hence the four star rating. For example, we had to ask a young woman who was clearing the table for a dessert menu. Then, she brought only one, although there were four of us. Clearly she needs some additional training.
The ambiance is also quite pleasant. The tables are well- spaced, the noise level is acceptable, and the tent is attractive.
Wonderful place for a marvelous meal prior to a performance at Jacobs Pillow. Food was excellent, the service attentive and the ambiance perfect for the setting.
Once again, our server, Zach, was great! Courteous and very pleasant. Unfortunately we waited for over 50 minutes for our food. Everyone comes here because they're attending a performance....need I say more? The manager, who did not introduce herself, did apologize and bought our drinks. She also said that it was the NEW chef's first night! Our food was delicious, but rushing to eat certainly did detract considerably from our experience.
