My 11-year-old granddaughter and I have been coming to tea annually since she was 5. It is a highlight of her year.
Thenn be palm court I’d a terrific place for special occasions and an oasis of calm and loveliness in our frenetic world
I realize the pandemic has been difficult for restaurants, so I don’t want to be too critical. The ambiance was lovely, the service was ok, but the food was terrible. The savory parts were tasteless, the scones were dry as sawdust and literally crumbled into pieces, the muffins were the kind you buy in a 2-pack at the check-out counter at 7-11, and the desserts were awful.
Took my boyfriend here for our anniversary. It is an amazing atmosphere. Very sophisticated and elegant. Wonderful and attentive staff, and good food and tea! Will definitely be visiting again.
Enjoyed the service. The food was similar to other afternoon teas I have been to. Appreciated having a second serving of sandwiches and scones at no extra charge. Would return. Noise level was a bit high.
Came with older friends with mobility challenges. While the hotel staff were terrific, the facilities just aren't sufficient for those who have physical limitations. Additionally, the noise level made most of the evening, which were friends visiting, nearly impossible to enjoy.
We had an amazing experience celebrating the birthday if my friend visit from Europe. The waiter went above and beyond and was extremely helpful and attentive. Will definitely come back.
Years ago I took my daughter to high tea at the Drake. 7 years, age 25, she asked me to take her back. It was just as wonderful as it was the first time.
We were discussing that this would be an excellent first date, great atmosphere, elegant, and allows for conversation.
I am sure, later in life, she will bring her children here.
Wonderful experience all around! Staff was professional and attentive! Food was fabulous. The harpist creates the ultimate ambience! An elegant touch! We’ve made precious family memories celebrating special events and milestones over the years.
THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!! Our server made it known that she hates her job or us and she didn't care cause an 18% gratuity was added on because we had 7 people at our table. I had been to the palm court for afternoon tea and wanted to share the fun with friends. But our server just ruined the whole experience and I will never go back there. There's plenty of other afternoon tea places to visit.
Ambiance, service, food, experience, 5 stars. The harpist was the best part but everything was outstanding.
Food quality was terrible. Yea was great, service and ambience excellent.
Stunning. Such a wonderful way to celebrate a friends birthday
A delightful retro experience. Gorgeous decor. The food was nice, but not quite as perfect as the place, still very pleasant. The scones were just a bit stale, and the pastries not perfectly fresh. The sandwiches were perfect, and the citrus Oolong tea a lovely surprise
It was beautiful and perfect for tea time! Such a special place to go for a little splurge!
Delicious bites and teas while enjoying a harpist. The floral arrangement is a stunning centerpiece to the room
Celebrating sending my son off to college in Chicago!
The Palm Court at the Drake is a wonderful place for a special occasion or just to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Everything about our experience was perfect - from the harpist to the birthday cake surprise for my friend to the excellent but unobtrusive service. The Palm Court at the Drake continues to be our “go to” spot!
We went for my birthday and it was better than I thought it would be!!
My first time getting English tea. The experience did not disappoint and the tea and food was excellent. The waitress was outstanding. The only downside was the price.
The wait staff was very attentive and checked on us regularly. They were wonderful in accommodating our vegetarian diet and my nut allergy. Great experience with superior service. Will definitely return to experience it again.
We had a wonderful experience at afternoon tea. The harpist was amazing.
I would highly recommend high tea at Palm Court. We had a lovely time with great service and ambiance. The harpist was wonderful and we throughly enjoyed the tea and treats.
I love this place. Its so beautiful and amazing. Its a nice thing to experience.
The room and service were excellent. The food was not as great and not worth the high price.
Surprise 52nd Birthday celebration with out-of-town, high school friends.
Afternoon tea with my daughter was a treat! The room was gorgeous, greatest of service (thank you, Aszmir) and delicious food!
Daughters going off to college
The service, food, ambiance was amazing. We also saw the live harpist who made our afternoon tea experience just perfect!
It is always a wonderful time having afternoon tea at The Palm Court. The staff is very attentive and always go out of their way to make the time there truly special.
I absolutely love the Drake, it is the grand dame of Chicago and has had a place in polite society for almost a century. The Palm Court and Gold Coast Room are iconic and any event there is an event. That being said, the atmosphere is lovely, the overall tea left many things lacking. The food could have been presented better with careful and thoughtful arrangement. It just lacked elegance and refinement with dry sandwiches, humidity inflicted scones and tasteless.
Having had tea at many London hotels, others in Chicago, I think the Drake should take this as an opportunity to present an elegant service rather than just something to get through. Please bring back what it was 20 years ago.
Great place for afternoon tea! We really enjoyed the food and dessert.
It was a special occasion birthday. I thought the wait staff could have been more attentive. Overall a great experience.
Very disappointed with how many tables were packed into the space. The table behind us and ours literally had the two chair backs facing away from each other but in line. There were significantly more tables than there were pre-pandemic.
In addition, the food was mediocre. We had good experiences in the past as this is an annual mother/daughter tradition, but we were underwhelmed with the food which was mostly dry and tasteless. Service was very good, but otherwise we will probably try tea elsewhere next time.
It's nice to know places with the elegance and class still exist.
Tea at the Palm Court was a very pleasant, elegant experience in a lovely space. Having the harpist play was a treat.
The setting is lovely. Exactly what you would expect from a stunning hotel like the Drake. The cost was about $100 pp (with tip) plus $20 parking and the portions were tiny, not much bigger than your thumb nail. It was rather noisy, even though it was only half full. Perhaps the high ceiling was the cause. The staff was friendly, but not as attentive as I had expected. They topped off the tea pot with hot water which puzzled me since that diluted the tea. They didn't use a tea cozy to keep the pot warm, but perhaps that wasn't classy enough.
For the cost, $120 and tiny portions, even the scone was tiny, it wasn't the value I'd hoped and that soured the experience.
Service was excellant - waiter was great (friendly, did not hover, knew his product).
First course of scones and rolls? were hard and tasteless.
Sandwiches and sweets were great.
We were not at all rushed at all. Bathrooms were immaculate and easily accessible.
Sorry to hear the Drake is for sale.............
Food was awful, service was mediocre and price tag was unreasonable! Not worth it
