The Ramblers Rest

First time back since it has been re done and looks great!
We enjoyed our time at the Ramblers Rest. Lovely old building. The food was good value, but the tempura mushrooms were very oily. Service was friendly.
Great service, outstanding food, would definitely recommend.
The food wasn’t great to be honest. The pate came with very little crostini and salsa - and the salad was okay but the strips of cucumber made it a bit slime and the bacon wasn’t cooked through. So no, I wouldn’t recommend to be honest which is a shame as it’s a smashing pub with great staff and a lovely setting.
The food was okay. Nothing to write home about.
We all had Sunday roasts at around 5 PM and some of the potatoes and vegetables were very dry and bland.
The service was absolutely awful. It took 35mins to get asked what we would like for desert and then another 30mins to get served the desert.
A huge disappointment to what once was a nice pub
Very enjoyable meal. Relaxed and very plesant atmosphere
Unfortunately I am unable to comment as they called and cancelled the evening before we were due to visit on Father’s Day. As you can imagine this was very disappointing as we had very little time (in fact no time) to arrange something else. It is ridiculous that Open Table offers tables when there aren’t any available and therefore the restaurant has to cancel. There’s no communication between open table and the restaurant. Ironically, I even got an email to confirm my booking after the restaurant called an cancelled. Not impressed at all.
.Always good food at the Ramblers Rest. It had been a manic super hot bank holiday Monday lunch so the staff were a little frazzled and they missed a couple of things but all in all, as usual, a really nice meal. Kid friendly too. Good veggie dishes if needed and large menu variety
Great pub, good food
The only downside was they didn’t receive my reservation from open table, they sorted it for me on the day though
Disappointing. Ignored when we first walked in as two staff members by reception intent on sorting admin rather than attend to paying customers. Decor in need of redecoration. Wall lights with bulbs not working. Restaurant only appeared to be 25% full on a Saturday night, but still seated next to table of 8 , family gathering with small children.
Food fairly average; eg deep fried Brie just one lump of Brie with poor garnish. On receiving the bill, waiter pushing too hard for a tip: writes on invoice that not included, tells me and then reminds me as he hands me the card reader.
Unsurprisingly, not rushing to return...
Fairly local and reliable with good ambience. Menu needs refreshing. Service good
Booked via Open table but the restaurant knew nothing about the booking. I showed them on my phone and they found me a table. Not a great start. They were clearly very busy and waiting staff were nice but struggling to cope. We were told after the starter and waiting 10 mins for the mains that they would be late due to a private party of 25 needing their food. Mains turned up an hour after the starter. We asked for a bottle of wine and had to remind them to bring it after 10 mins. My wife received her dessert but I only got mine when the waitress remembered to collect it from the kitchen after my wife had finished hers. Food was OK but chips rushed and covered in grease. Waitress took them back but not much improvement. Overall we've had better there before so hopefully this was a one off.
Great for Sunday roasts, but otherwise food is poor. Waitress was also clueless and food took ages despite it being empty.
Regular diner but this was first time for a couple of years, still top quality and recommended, will return soon.
This is a perfect venue for a tasty Sunday lunch or for a just a casual lunch on a sunny day, with a large beer garden offering seating under the sunshine as optional.
My favourite place in Coulsdon :)
