I loved this cute lil place and I enjoyed the ambiance.
Seafood seems to be the star on the menu. We had lobster rolls, which were excellent -- the lobster meat was fresh, tender, and plentiful --and available in a variety of preparations. Good drinks menu; nonalcoholic beverages were quite limited (no iced tea or lemonade!).
The food was good and ambiance was great! However, the food is a total rip-off. We ordered the lobster ravioli which came with exactly 4 pieces of very small ravioli...and it cost $24. This carried over into every dish we ordered. It's a shame because we were planning to come back with other parties, but won't be coming back after seeing the portions and lack of value. Hope they adjust!
We got the lobster roll and grilled octopus and It was amazing! Other people in our group got the lobster ravioli and said that is was equally as good. We will definitely be coming back many times.
Best seafood in all of Boston and Cambridge. Love this place.
Great food. Great ambiance... Outdoor seating.
Horrible drinks food and service, would not recommend
Ordered mussels, the meat inside the shells was tiny and dry. Definitely too expensive for the quality.
Fresh, delicious seafood, great service all around, great drinks. Highly recommend the lobster ravioli!
down to earth little gem on Harvard Square. I've been going for years, they do not disappoint.
Service was great! Very conscious of covid & tables were spaced out very well. Drinks were really good- had the B3 botanical cocktail which was interesting and tasted great! Our grilled octopus came out at room temperature which was a little disappointing, however the fish sandwich and scallops were delicious!
Showed up for an early dinner so there weren’t any crowds. We tried the Siracusa avocado lobster roll as well as the basil garlic roll and they were some of the best lobster rolls we’ve ever had! The guava mojo to was also great if you like a sweeter cocktail.
We were there a week ago and our wait person remembered our order - exactly - and it was so good that we wanted it again. Now that’s service!
Adorable setting great people watching spot. Great drinks and awesome Lobster rolls. I will be back.
It was pretty clear our server was high. If he wasn't he was just really scatterbrained. But either way, it was really awkward and unpleasant. The food is ok. But it's pretty expensive
The food and drinks absolutely suck! I do not recommend going here if you're after "restaurant-quality" food -- it is quite literally, and barely, bar food.
This was such a disappointing experience. While the setting was delightful -- outdoors in a lively area, with well created separated spaces that made us feel comfortable -- the food experience was a complete let down. While we realize that during these times (COVID), menus are more restricted, there is no excuse whatsoever for having absolutely zero vegetarian options. Not one. And when we asked about it, the waiter looked at us as though we had alien heads. Honestly - in Cambridge? Really? We had looked at the menu on line and thought we saw at least some option.
The food itself was acceptable but nothing special. And the portions were minuscule for the price.
I'm so sorry to say we cannot recommend this restaurant, which is a real pity since its location is ideal. That is probably why it survives but we for sure will not return at this point.
Food was good. I ordered mussels and received around 10 in a light sauce. My husband ordered the lobster roll w/fries and thought it was delicious.
The service was a lot less to be desired granted they were really busy. However, the floor manager(?) past by our table numerous times. Although I tried to get his attention to tell him how much I enjoyed the food, he never acknowledge us or inquired about our experience.
For this reason, I don’t think I will return as the dining experience is just as important to me as the food. I definitely left not feeling valued as a customer.
Great food and service was great. Doing a good job separating tables during pandemic. Menu varied and interesting. Highly recommend and would go again for sure!
Great seafood, location and drinks ....
The staff, location, and food at Red House were outstanding! The only reason for the 4 star review was that we didn’t like our cocktails and they were a bit expensive. Other than that, our experience was amazing and we can’t wait to go back!
Very romantic setting on a terrace outside with little partitions between tables. Oysters and squid were incredible!
Food was just ok and average. Nice location. Waiteress did not seem to have much knowledge about the menu or drinks.
One of the few Harvard Square restaurants open with outdoor seating, The food was fine but a little pricey for lunch. We had to ask that a loud speaker with questionable music be turned down. Staff was pleasant but a little forgetful as didn't make a vegetable substitution as promised. Otherwise a pleasant leisurely lunch.
I recently celebrated my birthday at the Red House and I was not disappointed. We had our own private seating, outside on the patio, and although it was rather hot before the sun set, we were all happy with the quick service from our exceptional waiter, Lenin. We all had wonderful cocktails, my sangria was amazing and then we shared a few delicious (and inexpensive) oysters. I ordered the spicy chipotle lobster roll with avocado and it was delicious, my party ordered their burger, scallops and another lobster roll and all were great as well. We finished with their tiramisu. I don't have one negative thing to say about my dining experience except that the music was a little too loud and we sometimes had trouble hearing one another. I recommend this place in summer or any time of the year. Also Lenin was outstanding and deserves a raise.
Tarragon lobster roll was fantastic!
Great food drinks service and outdoor deck is terrific. Miss the dollar oysters but understand the reason
Very good food and great service, I will come back again.
Best restaurant in the Boston area. Food is always fantastic. The new summer drinks are great. Waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable. Patio set up is beautiful and safe.
The Red House is a rare gem. The food is outstanding, the cocktails are sophisticated, and it's certainly one of the best values to be found it the Boston area. And one of its best qualities is that it is excellent without pretense.
Fresh and delicious seafood, perfect for dining al fresco on a summer Saturday evening. Party of 4, we had oysters, daily special ceviche, grilled octopus, lemon tarragon lobster roll, crab cake sliders, daily special halibut, and daily special pulled pork tacos. Food and service were top notch.
We had an amazing meal here! Server was super accommodating and we sat outside on the patio. We all ordered different variations of the Lobster Rolls - will definitely be back and order those again!
You ventured out after being inside for so many months to celebrate my birthday. I reserved a table through Open Table for an outdoor seating. We arrived early, so went for a little walk as nothing was ready. Upon our return we had to wait and eventually sit inside to order our drinks as some patrons were talking their sweet time! The waitress was very nice and very apologetic. She seemed to be the only one who cared and worked hard there that night. We also had to order before being seated as the kitchen was about to close. Eventually, we sat and enjoyed our dinner. The Margarita grilled shrimp were nice, even though it was only one skewer. We also enjoyed the octopus and my lemon/tarragon lobster roll had quite a lot of meat in it. Small restaurant with limited seating.
Nice to have the Red House open again. Could do with less loud music in the front, but maybe younger folks ( < 50 years) find that attractive.
Otherwise, all is good. All Pandemic Precautions appropriately observed, good food, and drink.
Great little restaurant on Winthrop St w variety of delicious lobster rolls and a delicious grilled octopus appetizer
The octopus was very tender and came with a delicious red pepper sauce. The mussels and especially the sauce were wonderful. The shrimp were grilled perfectly. When we told the waitress that the bottle of rose wine wasn't chilled, she immediately brought out a container with ice. Both she and the hostess were friendly and helpful.
Awesome staff, awesome lobster rolls and overall a great location!
Their lobster rolls were great. Not too mayo-ey so perfect for someone who isn't sure they like a lobster roll but wants to try one. Also very central in Harvard Square so its a great location. They are handling COVID-19 well and do a great job of making you feel safe when you eat there. Highly recommend!
We had a great time at the Red House! The food was amazing (especially the Grilled Octopus), music as well and people super friendly. I highly recommend!!
