The River Deck Cafe
Lunchtime on a Sunday with social distancing measures in place so fewer tables occupied. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the food reasonably priced. We largely chose burgers which were tasty. $200 for 6 adults with mains, some deserts, coffees and soft drinks. Lovely setting by the river on a beautiful autumn day. Looking forward to returning when we are allowed to meet again.
Great food. Lovely location for a family catch up.
Beautiful outlook over the Murray. Food, service, wine all very good. Great experience
Lovely place to eat ... atmosphere and views out to park and Murray River beautiful.
Experience was excellent. Visited on a very busy morning and arrived 30 minutes prior to our booking time. Staff were very busy, but very accommodating. Meals arrived and they were huge and very tasty. A lovely experience, thanks!
We have been visiting the River Deck Cafe on & off for the last 8 years & it has always been consistent with delicious food, coffee, take away, customer service & you cant beat the beautiful spot. Well done guys!
Excellentxcellent food and service.Great place for breakfast.
Exceptional food and service. Pricey but worth it.
As always the River Deck ‘rocks’
James & the other waiters are so accommodating & service is exeptional
The Crewe brûlée was to die for... thanks to the Chef... you know who you are!
An awesome place to take anyone special, in n Sunday it was my lovely school friends from the 80s
Met family from Melbourne in Albury for the weekend and had breakfast at the River Deck .Had a good range of options and our vegetarian members well catered for,the cured trout was outstanding .A great place to have a meal in a lovely setting in amongst the trees while watching the Murray River roll past
My wife and I had lunch here today (Saturday) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We’ve been here previously for lunch, breakfast and also just for coffee - it’s a wonderful location with lots of glass to show off the view. In contrast to some of the other reviewers on this site, we were in and out just under an hour and we found the service friendly and efficient. This is one of the best places in the area to bring visitors (as we have done previously) and we’ll definitely be back!
Had a lovely night, the staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive. Had the panko crumbed halomi and tomato bruschetta - amazing. I had the fillet steak - it was superb and the sauces were delicious, my husband had the duck with a cherry sauce - he loved the duck, so tender and flavoursome (the cherry sauce was a tad sweet - but that didn't detract from the dish). Finished off with the ruby chocolate coconut pannacotta - delicious. Would definitely recommend the River Deck and will go again.
Beautiful venue, my ricotta gnocci was a little tough but the combination of flavours was good.
My favourite place for lunch and dinner. Food is satisfying and creative, service always good and this is the premier location in Albury.
The food is very well cooked, the bisque I had with the prawns and squid was fantastic! It’s a great place, excellent food, great atmosphere, the staff a very friendly and always will to help, however what let’s it down is the service is not very professional. With the numbers that were there on Sunday at midday one professional Italian waiter or maybe two at the most would have been more that enough, however the girls do not seem to keep an eye on the customers so as a result you nearly have to stand on a chair and whistle to get attention.
I would suggest to them to send the waiting staff to a professional Italian restaurant with professional Italian waiters to see how it can be improved.
Overall it is a very good place, very highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed, just a little polishing and it would be perfect!
Always enjoyable but we didn’t get a couple of things that we ordered. (A salad and a coffee). The wait staff were friendly but a bit forgetful.
Staff not on the ball
Hi, we had a great valentines night dinner at the River Deck, only thing was the light about us kept flickering and there was a young (maybe 4yo) outside with his parents that kept running around and banging on the glass. Also the stake was under cooked and food took 45min to come out.
Would recommend for people to try but not sure if we will come back considering prices.
It was a good choice to take my girlfriend here for valentines. The food was good along with the service and atmosphere. Would go again.
Enjoyed the new menu, I ordered the Murray Cod and wasn’t disappointed. However the number of little sides puzzled me. There seemed to be too many conflicting flavours.
Having now had chips on several occasions at the restaurant, I must say that they continue to disappoint. Over cooked usually which is a shame. How hard can it be?
Can’t complain about wait time, we were in and out within 40 minutes. Service quite good, did forget our girls activity packs which they had to go and ask for. Nice meal, not one that makes me want to go back and have again though.
Updated booking time to 10.30 and spoke to Alex around 9am in store to confirm new booking was locked in.
Upon returning about 10am to an empty table, male waiter arugued we never had a booking.. made experience unpleasant after confirmation by Alex..
My Partner and I chose Riverdeck for a Saturday evening meal with a friend.
Given its reputation, we were excited to finally be able to try it out for dinner.
Sadly we were very disappointed.
We started with some warm olives and bread which were the nicest part of the meal.
For entree we ordered the Ocean trout and the Scallops.
The Ocean trout had a myriad of ingredients many of which took away from the subtle flavour of the fish. The presentation was poorly executed with the fish being poorly trimmed and herbs in large clumpy pieces with stalks still on. Less is more for a delicate dish such as this!
The scallops were hot served in a gazpacho soup (cold soup) served in a warm bowl. again, this really didn't work as a dish, as the flavours were all over the place and it wasn't correctly seasoned.
Main course we ordered Gnocchi and Scotch fillet.
The Gnocchi was clearly not freshly cooked - heavy semi warmed lumps of it with partially cooked vegetables, now I'm a fan of crispy vegetables but these were so barely cooked that they were practically raw. The sauce had a store bought flavour to it and lacked depth. I had to ask for this to be heated up as it was sent out with some areas of the plate warm and others quite cold.
The Scotch filet was cooked to medium as ordered but was a very strange looking cut or meat, something between an eye fillet and scotch fillet and hadn't been trimmed of sinew. It also lacked flavour.
Despite it being reasonably quiet and a good number of staff working, we felt unattended and had to reorder drinks as they had been forgotten.
The lighting for an evening was harsh to say the least and a dimmer switch would be a vast improvement for evening dining.
I end this review by saying that, I am not a serial restraint reviewer, in fact - this is the first review I've ever written for a restaurant despite having a background in hospitality.
I'm not sure how the Riverdeck made it into the AGFG 2020.
The food was pretty ordinary. It lacked Flavour/seasoning and was pretty much thrown on the plate.
Our waiter James saved the experience he was lovely and just attentive enough.
I probably wouldn’t go again.
It was a very pleasant afternoon. The service was excellent & the food was amazing. My elder sister who is an amazing cook herself was very impressed. Thanks again and well done. Regards Alison
Always an amazing meal at River Deck. It is a little but on the expensive side, but the quality you get for your dollar is well, well worth it. Everything looks, smells and tastes fantastic. Pretty sure it would be impossible for them to serve a bad dish.
Wonderful service and lovely food! Local wine selection was delish!
Fantastic food and great service great value and very clean
When you book online can you ask if you are just having coffee.
I don't know if you asked weather if you wanted insde or outside.
Really beautiful spot for a sunset dinner by the river. Staff were a bit inattentive. Food nice and fair value.
Breakfast and lunch a must. Dinner can be hit and miss. Unfortunately, our Main course food was cold. I’d had the oysters earlier in the week for lunch. They were superb. For dinner, the recipe was changed to include gelatinous cubes of Bloody Mary - nowhere near as good as the actual bloody Mary’s liquid on the oysters.
As usual, The Riverdeck provided lovely food and a great atmosphere to entertain visiting friends. Thank you!
Great food. Great spot. Try and get a spot in the deck so you can overlook the river.
I took my wife on our first dinner date in years. I was nervous, it felt like a first date (that's how long it's been!)
River Deck did not disappoint. The waitress was courteous, polite, and the service overall couldn't be faulted.
The food was unique, delicious, and refreshing - I don't think there was anything I could've ordered that would've disappointed.
The only criticism I have is the selection of wine available by-the-glass. A large wine menu - but only about 5-6 wines available to order by the glass. That being said - the wines were delicious, and it wasn't a deal breaker or cause for any disappointment.
9.5/10 - would definitely recommend to anyone.
Staff are friendly and welcoming. We love the riverside setting and outdoor dinning.
Fabulous service - best I’ve had for ages in a cafe
We had a girls day out which included lunch at the River Deck. Beautiful location, yummy food, great service
It was wonderful
We had the loveliest breakie with family and the young children were very well accommodated thank you!
We booked this as a catch up with friends whilst on the road back from Melbourne.
The food was just divine. All great local produce, I had the Murray Cod with the Lobster bisque, and it was amazing, Others opted for the local steak which they said was incredibly tender and well cooked (to their order specifics).
Great wine list, much of it from the region as well.
Located in a lovely setting overlooking the river, and set in the park.
