The Sidewalk Cafe
Visiting Santa Monica with husband and two teens for the weekend. Loved the ease of getting our table, beautiful sunset view and the excellent service. Also appreciated that this end of Santa Monica is more high end, cleaner and relaxed. Thanks so much for a lovely evening.
Very long waits
Onion soup came very salty
Over easy eggs came hard, than replacement only one instead of two and then finally two which were ok
this place is DOPE! we are so coming back. menu is big but we tried a bit of everything - and it was all great. gottA try a brunch day - you cannot beat the seats - beautiful and friendly service
Had a nice lunch outdoors with a friend and got to catch up. There was a bit of a delay each time we ordered another beer, but service was good otherwise. Music volume was perfect .My Chinese Chicken Salad was flavorful and my friend was happy with his Chicken Club Sandwich and French fries.
Excellent covid cafe! Really well done. Food quality was great. The server was a little impatient but just fine. Will definitely go back.
Service was terrible. Our waitress took forever to get us a menu & order and bring our drinks. We finally got to order and they brought my date’s order but not mine. The other wait staff passed by our table 3 times looking at my date as he’s patiently waiting for me to get my order without even bothering to ask if everything is ok. Our waitress finally came over about 15 minutes after and realized she never put my order in. They did not offer to comp us or adjust our bill and then took forever to bring our bill too.
Great time- food and service wonderful. A little loud due to street traffic an a speaker right by our table, but to be expected outside dining on the street lol. Great overall.
Great location to watch the sunset. I appreciate that they have outdoor seating now that we can't stay indoors for meals. I will be back to try other dishes!
Awesome menu. Great to sit outside and be served. All was wonderful.
The restaurant was empty and it took over 20 minutes to get our drinks.
The food was mediocre.
The rooftop bar must take everyone's attention. I would never eat in the downstairs restaurant again.
We met at the Shangri La because of its convenience to all of us and it’s location for a beautiful rooftop view of the sunset, which did not disappoint. We weren’t sure of the food or service, but both came through with high marks!
We searched OpenTable for a Santa Monica restaurant with a great ocean view to dine and watch the sunset. This location more than exceeded our expectations. We got a great booth and experienced wonderful service from our server Michelle. She was personable and well versed in the location's bill of fare. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and had a great low key vibe. We ordered tapas to share and two plated dishes. All were wonderful. We even got a visit from the Food & Beverage Manager Kenny. I would highly recommend this place to any friend and we will definitely be back again!
Two in our group ordered duck. Worse duck ever. was so tough you could barely cut it. shape of a log, very dark, could not recognize as duck.
My john dory came out very over cooked as totally crispy and sent it back and came back slightly better.
The rib eye steak was the cheapest looking thin steak.
Solid Thanksgiving day meal. Great views of the ocean Great service.
My reservation wasn’t for the dining room at the Shangri-La. It was for their terrace at onyx (the rooftop) So I could celebrate my birthday with a beautiful ocean view and fresh air. When my party of 12 arrived there was no reservation, come to find out the terrace is closed for renovations. (You shouldn’t be able to make a reservation if the place isn’t available) They said they would accommodate us if we stayed. My reservation was for 12:15pm we finally were served in the pool area around 2pm. They seemed like they didn’t care at all, no one was on the same page there is was a major miss. I’ve eaten at the Shangri-La before and have always had a good experience, this was very disappointing.
I booked a reservation for a table and dinner and they don't have tables it is a bar so perhaps you should check these things out first before allowing them to be on your site listed as a restaurant
Most people have only been the bar/club area but they have a wonderful restaurant as well. Rooftop views with almost all tables with unobstructed views. The food is fresh, seasonal, and comes out quick. Would highly recommend trying this place out.
Unpleasant. Views were incredible. Service was awful. Confused on what menu we should order from. Drinks has very little alcohol for $18.
Fantastic view with amazing service and great food! We'll be back!
Great restaurant.. great service. Nice ambiance.. would high recommend!!
Lovely hotel. Was greeted by the concierge right away and led to the quiet dining room.
The waitstaff was on top of it and lunch was perfect. Best place to go for a quiet business meeting.
Excellent service and great value!
We came here for Christmas day lunch at 1:30pm (we'd made a reservation).
It took over 10mins for us to be seated as it looked like there was no server or hostess even on duty. Once we were sat, there was a bit of confusion with the menus but we figured it out in the end.
It is a bit of a shame that the Christmas menu wasn't posted online because we only had a slight idea what we were in for (for main course).
The first course was foi gras (I am vegetarian) - so I asked to change to something else. The response was, well, this is the Christmas menu - and I felt like replying, well, this is the first time I have seen it! Ha! We both changed to sprouts and those were quite tasty.
Next course was the cauliflower soup which you had to add mushrooms and greenery from the side of the bowl - the chef presented it that way. It was pretty tasty but was blended wayyy too smooth for my liking. I don't like to chew soup, but I also don't like to be able to sip it through a straw. Adding the mushrooms improved it a bit for me, but otherwise, I wasn't impressed.
The next course for me was the sea bass. It was served with a pea puree and some asparagus. I wasn't overly impressed with this either and only ended up eating the fish and puree. The boneless rib eye was apparently ok and the mashed potato that it was served with clearly went through the same blender as the 2nd course soup.
Dessert was shared between the tiramisu and creme brulee. Both dishes were nice and probably the highlight of the meal for me. It is a shame it was so expensive ($85 per person plus the $52 we spent on a bottle of bubbly). We had to reserve our table with a CC (full cancellation fee), and only knew that the "four course christmas menu included duck, rib eye and sea bass". We might have gone somewhere else.
Wait staff were very friendly and I always feel bad writing a review like this, when they did their best to make our meal as enjoyable as possible.
Enjoyed dinner with friends in the authentic streamline moderne dining room. The menu has many choices from Asian to American, and all are done excellently. The breadboard with butter dollups was superb and such a great way to start our dining experience. View of the ocean was the topper.
Birthday dinner for my girlfriend. Food was excellent and the service was good. We enjoyed viewing sunset from the rooftop bar beforehand. Highly recommended!
Christmas set menu that didn’t have child option when booking online. $79 for childs lunch a little much....
Food was average, dry over cooked fish, chewy duck and steak (was not overly busy when we arrived at 2pm)
Lovely venue with good service but would not return or recommend.
Amazing Thanksgiving dinner
Customer Service was great...very attentive. We had a beautiful view. Food was good, especially loved the bread pudding.
great Kobe Beef Burgers. Good cocktails. Convenient spot for dinner after movie.
The service, drinks, wine selection, ambience, apps, and view were amazing, but the entree served was not done well in presentation or taste.
A good location for a business breakfast. The decor looks a bit tired but the staff were friendly and the food was good. Great location in Santa Monica.
I loved the Easter Brunch
They were super special w me since i was visiting from out of state.
From the concierge Adrianne to our waiter Zane everyone was amazing
Definitely California is way far above in customer service compare to Miami. And the Shangri-La is above expectations to the regular customer service in California which is already great.
So is 1000% recommend
Awful! So disappointed. We were out for a meal with friends and hadn't tried this place so we thought we would give it a try. Service non existent...three out of four entrees arrived and after about fifteen minutes my husband got up to find somebody to check on the situation. We were told the server was on a break! In the middle of the dinner hour? Finally arrived and it was not worth waiting for. No one asked us about drink refills or to pour water or replace silverware. Just a disaster! Manager finally came over (we were literally the only people in the restaurant at 9:00 on a Saturday) and he said he was very "embarrassed" and would certainly comp the late entree. Of course, we finally got the bill and paid and left. It would have been nice if someone would have asked about coffee or dessert but the place was totally deserted at that point...I wonder why? Wouldn't go back and would never recommend it to anyone. Shameful!
It was horrible service. They gave us a rock hard cake and ruined my gfs bday. It was so annoying. The place is cute and POSH. I dont recommend having a bday here. Its overpriced.
Food was far from good. Menu did not give enough info on size. Had to ask for sauce for my sushi and also chop sticks that they did not have. Restaurant was completely empty apart from us and one more company.
Everything was excellent. Since it was NYE, there was a set menu. Each option sounded great. Service was top-notch. Definitely pricey, but we expected it to be. A large families, kids, and friends party of 20 arrived halfway through our meal, so the noise level skyrocketed, but only slightly lowered our service. The champagne was flowing, it was a memorable NYE dinner.
We had to wait a half hour past our rservation for the table. There was only a pre-fix menu offered that offered 3 sad choices for apps, mains and desert. That was never memtioned on the restaurant website or on Open Table. When saw people next to us eating oysters and yellowtail tartare we asked why we were only offered a pre-fix menu. The disinterested waiter tossed off "you have to be a hotel guest to get the full menu on Christmas day". He then disappeared for another 10 minutes because the restaurant was clearly understaffed. When the food finally came it looked and tasted like cafeteria food. The Prime Rib was overcooked and bristly, paper thin and visually off putting. The sliced turkey in light gravy goop seemed to be out of a vacu sealed astronaut meal. They did have the 2012 Hartford Court Russian River Pinot Noir. I really needed that!
A great choice for an early lunch and business meeting. A refreshing view of the Pacific from the comfortable seating in this combination bar-lounge-restaurant. On a weekday, look for Esteban. The tuna salad is recommended...enjoy!
What a great throwback room! Great Art Deco beach/shipboard ambience, with terrific ocean views and beautiful period decor. Gorgeous bar along the back wall, cozy tables and beautiful big windows that open to the Pacific breezes on warm days (and balmy evenings). The staff are welcoming and extremely courteous, and the menu is very inviting. Lunch items are reasonably priced for the area, and the food is delicious!
