The Society Restaurant & Lounge
We went specifically to sit in on the live Reggae set, and Ras Slick and the Dutty Bus Crew did not disappoint. The food and drinks were the icing on the cake, everything was perfect.
Went to Society Restaurant with a couple of girlfriends and had Friday night, a 6:30 pm reservation. We were a bit early, and they seated us. The hostess was pleasant, the waiter was pleasant, the food was great, and the ambiance was really nice. By around 8:30 pm it started to get a lot more crowded (as the DJ was about to start playing), and it seems like it turns into more of a Lounge/club atmosphere as the night goes on. It was a great experience, and we’ll definitely be back!
The food was great, Happy Hour very good with great prices. They need to improve the drink menu, especially the Sangria which was just white wine on ice. Especially luv the live music. Steelo Soul was fabulous. And this was my first visit. Will definitely return. A hidden gem
I loved the music in the restaurant and the lounge. The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly! I will be coming again.
We were not told that during New Year’s Eve the menu was going to be a fixed menu, so we left the restaurant.
When we arrived the hostess was so consumed with her phone that she greeted us as if we were bothering her. But ok cool. She seats us then walks off. We sat there for about 10 minutes before she brought water but still no waiter. Finally I water came took our order. Our food came and we never saw our waiter again without asking for him. Although he was cool, he was not attentive and I think he thought his personality would make up for it...No sir it does not, do your job. I had an eye line view of him in the back talking the whole time we were trying to get his attention to order another round of drinks. Next time I may just go to the bar.
The food was good however, I ordered some.spring.rolls to go and they didn't check the order to ensure everything such as the sauce that come.with it, was included.
I would definitely go back just sit at the bar as the bartender was more concerned about us then our waiter. They asked twice if we needed anything else.
I liked the place. The service was not good could’ve been because the night was busy but the food took a while to come and I didn’t get my beer or water until after asking several times. My biggest dislike was having to pay a cover charge at the door because we made 10:45 reservations. Apparently regardless of why you’re there after 10:30 is a cover. Doesn’t make sense. The music was amazing good people good food.
Nice place wonderful experience.
The Society Restaurant and Lounge never fails to impress. Everything from the ambience, the waitstaff, food, and DJ/band....always surpasses my expectations.
4 out of 5
Not a saturday place for me. I was looking for live music. Apparently that only happens on weekdays. Wish I'd done the research! Other than that it was a cute spot.
First time coming here at her recommendation for our first date. The entire vibe didn't disappoint. The staff was very professional, and we really enjoyed the evening.
My wife and I always come here when we visit the DMV area. We stay in College Park so it’s only a 15 minute drive. We even brought 2 friends and they enjoyed everything as well. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I made reservations on Sat., Nov. 16th at 8:30 p.m.; we arrived and was promptly seated by the hostess and only seconds later the waitress arrived to welcome us and seconds afterward the server brought 2 glasses of water to our table. We ordered appetizers and our main meals and they both arrived in a timely manner with dining time in the interim of each meal. We also ordered alcoholic beverages as well. I would recommend The Society Lounge to my friends.
We just had dinner and didn't get a chance to visit the lounge. The service in the restaurant was very fast from the time we sat down. From drinks, appetizer to meal there was never a delay. The staff was very courteous and professional...they continuously checked in to see if we needed anything.
Phenomenal food and service! The red snapper is amazing!
The food is always unsuspectingly good/flavorful and HH is actually till 8p, not till 7p as printed on the HH menu (at least at this time I went).
Brunch was very unorganized...food wasn't replenished fast enough, wait time was EXTREMELY long (food was cold by the time I sat down to eat). Very cramped; space too small (buffet, omelet, waffle station were too close to one another). There was no buffet upstairs; had to walk downstairs for food. Service was horrible; waiter did not replenished drinks (had to ask several times for refills/service). I will say that the hostess was great at multi-tasking...even acting as our server at times, ensuring that everything was okay. Overall, this brunch needs to be reworked/better thought out.
Being able to have a great meal with the best customer service possible and then to take to the dance floor with exceptional music —it was fantastic!
Must try jerk chicken wings. Live band Wednesday. 👍👍👍
Anybody ever seen HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Comedy Show by Robin Thede?? Well theres a sketch in the finale episode of season 1 about two black women who are eager to support a black owned soul-food restaurant. Only they find that they are out of everything and you have to bring your own silverware...Yea MY EXPERIENCE WAS JUST LIKE THAT!
I made reservations for 9:30 pm. I was sat at 9:30p and didnt see a server till 10:06p (thats because I flagged down a busboy and the hostess) A flustered black man eventually came by. He looked over worked--like slavery had not ended 200 years ago...Chille...Shame on Society for overworking this poor brother.
Apparently one of the servers called out. That is not an excuse! You should have reliable back ups and reinforcements. I expected to see a floor manager chipping in. I used to work as a waitress so I know how a smooth ship operates--this aint it beau. Do better....
The food and server were great. Management and the establishment was terrible. I was bringing a group of 10 friends from Philly to celebrate a birthday, so I emailed a month in advance to make a reservation. A manager named star Downing replied to my email and said they had availability but never responded when I try to follow through and confirm the reservation. I sent two more emails and called and left voicemails for time and no one responded. Finally I got a hold of someone the week before the reservation. She requested a deposit and took my credit card information. When I arrived, there was no record of my reservation. I was shown to an upstairs area where they tried to seat us on a long bench in the club area although I specifically requested a dining table. A manager came over and apologized and finally gave us a table. When we went to the buffet they were out of six different items. I asked when more food would be brought out and was told soon. A few items came out. I kept asking for shrimp and was again assured that it was still coming. Then eventually was told that they were no longer making it. I also asked for mac & cheese and was told that would definitely be coming since it was on the dinner menu as well, then a chef eventually came out and told me that was incorrect. I was completely dissatisfied with my experience. The food was great but there were several items I never got to try and what I did try ran out and I couldn’t get any more of it. The manager eventually comped one meal for our party of eight. At least two other large parties had similar issues with getting a table after making a reservation and lack of availability of food. The place obviously could not handle the business volume that day. Our server Karen was responsive and efficient but there were too many other issues and management did not handle them well.
Had a ball with my friends and my waitress was amazing.
Food was good and we had a good time. Only problem was the fact that we were there celebrating a birthday and they were out of the rum cake and bread pudding. This was disappointing but other than that it was a good experience.
Food was perfect. Service was right. Enjoyed my time.
It was a great environment the staff was friendly my coworkers and I had a great time.
I brought my cousin here for her birthday. And she thoroughly enjoyed herself.
Always like coming to society, but the one thing I dislike is never getting the requested table. I always reserve a booth against the wall as I so dislike those uncomfortable low blue couches, but never once got it. Always hearing the same excuses, there are accommodating large parties.
Love love the ambiance. It's perfect for a girl's night out , a fun date or just fun with friends. But the food and drinks are not that great. Food is very basic, and lacks flavor and drinks are watered down.
Food was good! Service was even better! Tommy (from Jamaica) made awesome food and beverage suggestions. Be sure to get the French Kiss! Music was grooving! Society made our birthday celebration so much fun! Highly recommended!
I was on time for my reservations but had to wait 35 mins after my reservation time to be seated because they were waiting on people to pay and get up. It was very frustrating to say the least. The food was amazing though
Went for dinner to celebrate my 50th birthday and really enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Loved the food and service was outstanding! I recommend the rib eye and they surprised me with the bread pudding (I don't like bread pudding but this was amazing) and had the entire restaurant join in to sing HBD. Will definitely go again.
The food was better than I expected. I got the J’s jerk chicken and my girl got the shrimp and grits. Both were amazing. The crowd was nice. Music was great. I had a great time
One of the best brunch in the DMV area. I absolutely love this spot. Highly recommend this restaurant.
The service here is very poor, they gave us misinformation, we were waiting for a table too long, even with a reservation
Went for Sunday brunch. Food was good but they didn’t have the bread pudding or sausage. No biggie but sometimes I like a little sweet after brunch. So maybe have a dessert or two. However, making 20% gratuity mandatory for a buffet was not right. The service was subpar. When ordering a waffle we were all given 1/2 a waffle and told to come back if we wanted more. Not cool. $35 per person I should get a whole waffle and the right to decide the tip.
I am a 50+, and I went on Saturday night, needless s to say I only stayed an hour. I am told that my age group attends on Thursday. It definitely caters to the 30+ crowd. Its small and no real dance floor, but beautifully decorated and bartenders were kind, attentive and professional. The host who sat us,had no personality, and dragged. I am definitely going back,
The appetizer shrimp was outstanding as well as the delicious curry shrimp, the pineapple salmon was to die for, and the Cajun pasta was delicious. If you go, you gotta leave room for the bread pudding! OMG - great! We will be back! Keep doing what you’re doing in the kitchen. Our waiter was very nice too and offered great advice on our selections and changes.
The food is always fantastic, but our servers seemed distracted. We had to ask for things twice, which is ALWAYS annoying. Our guy server was friendly but just dropped the ball when it came to being prompt with our requests. Clearly, they need some staff updates. They have to realize that they get quite a mature crowd in there and if they want to keep them, they need to tighten up the ship in terms of service.
