Wonderful lunch, it was very busy but even so the long wait for our meal was worth it. The food delicious, our lovely Spanish waitress fabulous.
I have to say the service was so bad. Waited at the door as instructed, to be seated , but it took for ever for some one to come. They were very quite, so they were by no means run of their feet . There was three of us . The girl took our drinks order , I requested was the fruit juice fresh, had a notable conversation, she then returned with the drinks and had no idea who the juice was for . We had our brunch and that was a very generous serve and tasty. But I has to request our plates to be cleared.
Then got so sick of waiting for anyone to return for a coffee order I got up and ordered for our table at the bar. Again there were around 10 people in the cafe , three of them were us. Someone was still asleep.
Again the ambiance, at Como, the cafe it self is lovely, the food was good, but they definitely need some staff training.
Was very disappointed.
It did not feel like a high tea experience and I will not be booking again
Although we had a booking, we were ignored for 30 minutes, even though some walk-ins were served prior to us, and it was only because they were kind enough to point the wait staff in our direction that our orders were taken. We then waited without either food or drink for over another 30 minutes, until we had to enquire as to our order. Such a shame, as we have enjoyed eating there at other times. It was also very noisy inside. I have taken into account the times we live in, but can't find a good reason for being ignored.
Lovely gardens, slow service, decent food. Lots of birds in the outside seating, that come really close
Food was okay but mostly seemed like it had been reheated and left out, so a little dry. Have definitely had better high teas elsewhere. The wait staff were great but the staff behind the counter didn't seem to know much about the products for sale and also weren't bothered to find out. Half way through our sitting, the maitre d came and asked if I had even booked and stated that I wasn't on her list. Even though someone else had checked me in and confirmed I was. The toilets were also very unclean. Overall, a disappointing experience, especially as I was treating my mum for her birthday.
Stables is great, food good but they had run out of some at 1 pm. However the service was terrible. Sorry but we waited for so long for water, and then glasses to drink the water, then to order. No not good enough.
Delightful place to have lunch - or brunch! Good selection of wine by the glass.
Everything about the experience was perfect. Thank you
The servers were very nice and attentive. However the high tea left much to be desired. The sandwiches and pastries were tasty but there wasn’t enough food or variety, especially for $65 per person.
Overall the service wasn't great as they kept forgetting things. The food was good. Apparently they were understaffed but there weren't many people there on the day and there were still quite a few staff on.
The venue is beautifully situated in the Como Estate - the cafe has a lovely, warm hospitable ambiance. We were meet by a staff member with a smile and pleasant manner. The breakfast menu was varied enough - our choices were well presented and delicious.
Seated outside on extremely hard bench seats without any cushioning spoilt our experience at the stables. Food was just OK with a very limited choice and it took ages for our empty plates to be removed. Overall a disappointing experience that required a walk in the magnificent grounds of Como House to depart with some sort of satisfaction.
I showed this place to my parents and they were very impressed. We will come back all the time
Was lovely ambiance and a good place to just have a coffee and cake
Lovely environment both inside and out. Menu offers good choices for a light lunch. Breakfast also looked appealing. Might go again and that.
Food was amazing as always. Service was terrible. We had to ask for serviettes, no share plates were brought to the table when we said we were sharing dishes, we had to get out of our seats to get the waiters attention, drinks were forgotten. Really poor & not of the standard we’re accustomed to at The Stables.
Loved it such a great place for brunch!
The food was delightful and so was the service but the atmosphere was a bit off. It was too noisy for us to hear each other talking, also unfortunately our crockery was all chipped. It was the first time my daughter had experienced a high tea and I’m not sure we will be coming back again.
There was no service what's so ever. The only type of service we got was to be sat on our table and take the food order. No question if we were okay, if the food was alright, if we wanted something to drink.
I had to get up to order something extra and wave to someone walking past to get some water cus no one paid attention to anyone.
I booked for my partners birthday and I am not coming back and it's totally not worth it
Great atmosphere for catchup with friends.
Such an amazing service and food.
Surrounded by the gardens of a heritage house beautiful & quiet but in the middle of the city. Great food & attentive service. Guests well spaced so safe but pleasant atmosphere
Nice food and atmosphere
Lovely entry back to dining in Melbourne. The staff were welcoming and versed in covid protocol. The venue was well spaced and we enjoyed our meal
We had a wonderful experience at the stables. We had the chef’s brunch which was excellent value. The food was very well presented and tasted amazing. Attention to detail and service was outstanding. Highly recommend especially for a special occasion.
Really lovely high tea. Nice selection of sweet and savoury on both main one and vegetarian plus a tea or coffee. Great to get unlimited mimosas as well.
Overall we had a lovely experience however there are a few things that I feel could have made for a more pleasant dining experience:
The crockery and table were not thoroughly cleaned (unacceptable especially during COVID) for example the table was dirty and the cups and saucers were dusty and old (stained, chipped)
Around the venue there were old prices of broken equipment lying around and made the place look like a bit of a shambles - it’s such a pretty settle but the attention to detail isn’t there.
The tea is served with frothed milk which is just bizarre. I understand these are strange times but I feel for $65 per head for afternoon tea you could go the extra mile and take pride in the appearance and cleanliness of the venue
Everything fantastic except one grumpy staff member.
Delicious food and lovely location, very polite waitstaff but service to get drinks was slow and they forgot simple orders like tea (at High Tea!)., and had to request more than one tiny pot of jam between four of us, Very noisy but nice rooms
SOOO noisy inside as the roof is so tall. Food was yummy but unenjoyable with the noise
My first time there... it’s packed and way too loud. Food was great, one of the waitresses dropped my colleague’s meal and had to choose another item in the menu (you would think they’ll give her free meal tho).
However, won’t mind going back.
Service very slow
Lovely spot to have lunch. Staff are excellent. Food tasty.
Lovely atmosphere, nice menu, great staff but at 11.30am they had run out of both chicken, cheese in a specific menu item and smoked salmon which was in about 5 of the choices!!!
We were a table for 5 and everyone had to change their minds as there was no chicken or smoked salmon or cheese!
A perfect spot for Sunday brunch with great food and mimosas!
Very slow service, nothing outstanding. Staff were very polite
They ran out of
Cold brew and instead provided espresso in coffee cups with ice .... should have come in a long glass.
Beautiful setting and an interesting menu. The staff were friendly and gave us good service.
Nice food pleasant atmosphere service could be improved we waited around 20-25 minutes for coffees to arrive despite cafe not being busy
We went for a meal on Boxing Day with a prior online booking for high tea. However, we were told when we arrived that there has been an issue as we did not specify that we intended to book for high tea. As we shown the manager the web page that we have booked which was actually the same page as the high tea menu, he was not sorry at all. Instead he focused on explaining where our mistake in making the booking were repeatedly. Then he just simply said that there was nothing he could do further. He can only offer normal brunch menu or we can leave and come back another day. At no point did he offer to do anything at all or to make us feel that he wanted us there. It felt like he wanted us to leave and in fact, it seemed like he didn’t want to be there working on the public holiday himself.
We ended up just ordering from the normal menu as we didn’t have much choice. It is a shame as the food was good in terms of quality and value as well as it is a nice establishment. However, if the manager’s attitude and service was this poor and rude, how much better can other team members be?! I am sorry to say that we will never be back again unless we know certain steps have been taken. I won’t risks taking my wife back there again and to have her being disappointed and offended. We are customers and as such I do not think it is too much to ask to be treated at least with some basic courtesy.
