Yep, we love this restaurant. Great cocktails, wine, food, and service. The duck breast is perfectly seasoned, cooked, and among the best I've had anywhere, accompanied by a deliciously rich and creamy sweet potato purée. Yum, we have headed there again as I write this review!

When I made my reservation via open table I asked to be sat at the best table in the house. We were sat in a private room and the service was outstanding. The cocktails were well crafted and the cuisine was impeccable. One of the best RVA restaurant recommendations we’ve had.

Our third visit in a few weeks is a sure sign we enjoy and now recommend The Stables. Creative handcrafted cocktails and an excellent wine list, including one of our favorite reds, Heinrich Bläufrankish. The shrimp & grits appetizer is delicious and hearty. The Cioppino was not what I expected or for me. Chef ventures out of the kitchen to interact with guests frequently, which really adds to the experience.

We've been recalling our first wonderful meal here a few days ago. The handcrafted cocktails are excellent, and they have an outstanding wine selection by the glass and bottle. The chicken & sausage gumbo side was particularly good as an appetizer. The lamb lollipops were so delicious before we went for the entree portion this visit and they were excellent, including the creamy cauliflower purée. Tim, the server, provides excellent service. We toured the rest of the intimate restaurant since we didn't make it past the bar and open kitchen area, and it has several cozy and private dining areas. We will be back.

We had the scallops and lamb lollipops apps and they were great. Main dishes were duck and a filet special they were running for NYE. All food was prepared as ordered and the service was fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Food and service excellent

My husband and I went to The Stables for our New Years Eve celebration. We loved every part of our experience. We we unexpectedly given a private dining area, our server was fabulous, and the food was out of this world. Highly recommend for a special occasion or date spot.

We've read several great reviews of The Stables. Fortunately, it was easy getting an early reservation on short notice. Conveniently located in the heart of the museum district on safe, well-lit Belmont Avenue, with ample free, unrestricted, on-street parallel parking steps away from the entrance. The interior is updated, clean, classic, cozy, and well maintained. Beautiful bar and open kitchen area. The Thai mussels, lamb lollipops appetizer, and creole pappardelle were all delicious. The service was friendly and professional. Awesome dining experience. We'll definitely be back often to this neighborhood gem!

Everything about The Stables is wonderful. Food is PERFECTLY cooked, great bourbon & wine selection, staff is so friendly and accommodating. Very clean, very COVID safe. We loved this place pre-COVID for a date night at the bar. Today, we love sitting outside (if it’s warm enough) or even inside because the tables are well distanced. It’s cozy, it’s delicious, it’s everything you’d want!

Everything was perfect as always. They are a great combination of a neighborhood restaurant where everybody knows your name and a fine dining establishment! Delicious food and great wine selection!

This restaurant is as cozy and inviting as it is impressive in its menu! Set in a little pocket in the museum district—it feels like a casual neighborhood restaurant yet provides upscale, delicious seasonally appropriate dishes that you’ll think of days afterward. The service is so friendly—I simply love this restaurant and all it offers!

A perfect intimate dining experience for a date night, anniversary celebration, or even a fun place to take out of town guests. Food was delicious, and staff were warm and attentive. I plan to return, and fully recommend The Stables.

Such a good restaurant, we drove over an hour to eat here and we were blown away. Our server was amazing and the ambiance was phenomenal. We had salmon and lamb lollipops for dinner and we were both amazed that the salmon was perfectly cooked and the lamb didn't taste lamby. Truly melt in your mouth with the perfect blend of spices. I will definitely be back. The only minor hiccup was that a lot of the dishes have pork in it but my waiter was great and worked to find options that fit my dietary restrictions. Also, the dessert was heavenly not too sweet and big on flavor. I rarely write reviews so you know this has to be good!

Food/drinks/service were top notch - outdoor seating was terrific, although table near us was quite loud and engaged in face time calls during dinner which was annoying but not really the restaurant's fault

Let's start with COVID. The Stables team were very strict about this. As a matter of fact, I went to the restroom and forgot my mask and staff quickly reminded me to put a msak on which I was very happy about.
From start to finish, everything was amazing. There were four of us dining. I started with the sutumn pear and beet salad. I could eat this every single day. Awesome. I then had the vegan crabcakes and a side of grilled zucchini which were both excellent. Others in our party had the lamb lollipops ( I was told were very good) and the pumpkin and squash curry (which I would order next time as the flavor profile was spectacular) and the salmon which was the catch of the day. There was a side of cauliflower puree we all tried. How can cauliflower puree be incredible? Not sure, but it was!!! I will spend the rest of my life trying to duplicate it. Craft cocktails were unique and yummy. I highly reccommend. It indeed lives up to the hype.

The Stables is a charming, small place on a side street (Belmont) in the Fan. It has a few outdoor tables, but they are too close the street for me. Have seen some happy diners sitting there, so it may be OK for you. The food is amazing, but the prices are not cheap. The most expensive is the steak entree at $48.

We opted for some small plates and the duck breast entree. All were amazing. We started with cocktails. The bartender makes an Old Fashioned just like my granddad would drink - heaven! It's not on their list, but they make it for me. The other cocktails are inventive and tasty.

The front room has all the atmosphere. The back room is somewhat barren, but if you have great company and food, that can be overlooked. Can't say enough great things about our waiter. He makes for a fun evening.

Except for a group of 3 women, it looks like a date night place. They practice social distancing, and masks are required. Highly recommend for the second time this year.

It was a great experience but the only thing that was subpar was the bathrooms. We ordered a meal, but adjustments were made.

Had mussels and salad appetizers. Had the duck and family had the fish. I was told the fish was delicious and my duck was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Mussels were yummy with ginger broth Service was impeccable.

What a wonderful dining spot. Beautiful interior, full bar, open kitchen area. Entrees were delectable and service was top notch. Nice wine selection, good quality. Will certainly return!

Delicious, inventively prepared food of superb quality and attentive, charming service. One of my favorite places to dine.

This place was amazing, as always! I started with a cocktail from their creative list of tasty cocktails. My wife had a glass of bubbly. We started with the scallop and polenta appetizer with collards. Scallops were perfectly seared and I would happily devour a whole portion of the greens on their own. I had the lamb lollipops as my entree. I would say this is definitely one of the chef’s specialties. AMAZING!!! Go directly to The Stables. Order the lamb lollipops. Do not pass go. My wife had the duck breast, which I tasted and must also highly recommend. We ordered a nice red from their extensive wine list and were again impressed. We ate outside and everything felt very safe. Our service was on point. We never felt like we had to wait too long for anything, but never felt rushed either. The server was pleasant, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and was happy to answer all of our questions. Go to The Stables at Belmont. You’ll be happy you did.

The server was nothing short of amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable of the makeup of our drinks and gave great recommendations with food pairings.

The service was good, food was okay. Cauliflower small plate good, bread good, salmonacatch of the day good. Small plate salad with curried nuts and fruit was so -so, value also was so-so.

The Stables was a wonderful place to have drinks and dinner after going to VMFA. We split the shrimp and grits and scallops appetizer. Both were amazing. Really enjoyed the scallops that were cooked beautifully and came with delicious collards. The best dish of the night were the lamb chops- whatever they are marinated in is to die for with its hint of mint and perfectly cooked! Will be back!

Food was very good. I think the menu has enough to appeal to a variety of tastes. Standouts were the Thai mussels and the lamb lollipops (both appetizers).
