The Swan Inn, Lympstone
As it was known to be owned by the River Exe Cafe I was expecting a similar standard of food and service. We waited a long time for our drinks, they had no gluten free bread despite saying one of the guests was gluten free. We had to wait a long time for each course. My liver and bacon were completely overcooked and very dry. I was offered a free apple crumble and custard which was cold. I asked was it meant to be cold and the waitress said yes and something about how the apples are prepared??! The service wad really haphazard. I was most disappointed especially as out was a special birthday and we were even at the wrong table. I think River Exe would be horrified!
Our Waitress Kate was brilliant - keeping the kids entertained and the parents "topped up" on the wine a very pleasant experience and also made a special effort for our little girl Storme birthday
We thought we would try the swan as it has changed hands recently. The food was lovely and good value. Service was a bit slow... we like to at least be offered a drink even if our order isn’t taken.. we don’t mind taking a bit of time over our food, but others may wish to be served more quickly. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They have a lovely wood burner in the restaurant, and it would have been nice on a chilly night if it had been lit... we found the pub a bit cold. Definitely will be back ...
Absolutely lovely food & great friendly service :)
Sadly they had run out of two items on the daily specials menu and didn’t have any rioja either so not a great start. Food we did have was ok but nothing special!
Lovely roast dinner Sunday lunchtime.
A lovely warm country pub in a beautiful village.
Very welcoming staff, nothing too much trouble.
The food was very well presented and delicious, value for our money.
Our server, although partime, as only 17 years old and studying at college, certainly knew the menu and was a real great ambassador for the pub ensuring we had a lovely evening.
We will definitely visit again.
Friendly service, prompt and efficient. The food was really excellent.
Excellent food and service, great Sunday lunch venue
The food was outstanding. Really enjoyed and excellent value in a wonderful environment.
Fantastic dinner, service and experience. I highly recommend this pub.
A great Pub,, there is a warm atmosphere and the staff are polite and attentive. We booked a table on a Tuesday night for a meal for two, the quality of the food far exceeds the price you pay for it, it is quite simply delicious, in fact it was so good we went back the next night even though we had intended to eat elsewhere. If you want a quality meal in a cosy pub then look no further.
Fantastic food and wonderful service, the staff were all lovely
I enjoyed my lunch meal but i do find that the evening menu is much better as I have eaten there in the evenings too
Had the most amazing meal here on saturday, we will be back soon.
Really enjoy eating at The Swan. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Food is usually fantastic although the grilled plaice I had this time wasn't at its best. Overall though, an enjoyable evening.
Great food, friendly staff. Loved it. Nice to be able to have one scoop of ice cream after the meal. Couldn’t fit in a whole pud but the ice cream did the trick and finished it all off nicely.
Thank you ... we will be back.
Sadly the first choice of food we asked for was unavailable, though we were not informed when the order was made. Quite nice food when it came but the service was slow even though you were not busy ( only one other table occupied in the dining room when we ordered). Nice atmosphere.
Certain items on the menu weren’t available.
Service was slow and had to remind staff of our drinks order
Food was cold. Lamb was tough so had to swap to turkey. Veg and potatoes were left soggy by being covered with a likewise huge soggy Yorkshire pudding.
A choc or biscuit with coffee would have been nice.
Miscommunication between staff.
Disappointing experience .food was quite cold , meat was tough. We waited 1 hour for service . Definitely not in ‘top 10 best Sunday lunch category as promised . Would never go again
Lovely Sunday lunch with family. Good size children's portions for half adult price. Very pretty village. We cycled from Topsham. Can recommend as a day out.
This was actually one of the best meals we have had for a very very long time. Delicious.
Quality food cooked well and a decent size serving. Staff were efficient and friendly.
Roast Beef very poor. The service stretched when busy. Staff tried hard
Overall we enjoyed our visit to The Swan. The only observation we think should be stopped is the waitress having to ask if we wished to include a tip when paying by card.
We think this is very embarrassing for a waiter/waitress to have to ask. It's also embarrassing for the customer who may not intend leaving a tip at all.
Lovely welcome as soon as you walk in, great service all evening, great food, we will be back
We had a lovely meal thank you.
The staff were very attentive.
Good value food, service needs a bit of finesse but staff were keen and overall this left a good impression.
Fabulous food, served in a traditional old world Devon pub, full of character. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, providing extra gravy (which was amazing and hot), and mint sauce with no trouble or fuss. Highly recommended.
Great food and atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Staff always friendly and attentive
Family Sunday roast! Was fantastic and desserts were grewT! Drinks took a little while at the beginning but other than that fab.
Excellent Sunday lunch - tasty and generous portions
Service a little slow but the ambience and the company made up for this. The restaurant was very busy.
Really helpful front of house who accommodated our request for an additional person with a smile
Thoroughly enjoy the evening thank you will go again
Excellent service. Delightful staff. The Camembert sharer starter was the best we’ve ever had. Our burgers were over cooked but were replaced efficiently with perfect ones, with no problem. Well done!
Truly impressed with the Swan Inn. Knowledgeable, attentive staff (thank you Lucy!). Food was excellent and we sampled a wide range of the menu between the 4 of us. Crab / Pulled Pork / Steak / Pie / Fish / Burger. Even with a busy Saturday evening the food arrived hot and quickly. By focussing their efforts on a limited dinner menu they are obviously able to make things fresh each day. Very reasonably priced as well, would definitely visit again.
We went just as beer fest was ending so the scaffolding took away a bit from nice ambiance. Staff were friendly efficient and very welcoming. We had a dog which was fine.
We had delicious crab starter and really fresh lemon sole beautifully cooked.
Consistently good food and great choice of beers. Looking forward to returning
Lovely staff and the chocolate mousse I had for dessert was incredible! Would definitely reccomend.
Appropriately attentive waitresses. Good information given when asked.
Meals enjoyed by the whole party.
Too improve, main courses could have included some low saturated fat options easily without lowering food standard. Deserts too could have had some low fat options such as fruit with fat free Greek yogurt, sorbet. I have a raised cholesterol but I still want to enjoy eating out!
Excellent food, amazing location and very friendly helpful staff. Couldn't have asked for more. Thanks a lot. Will certainly be back soon.
