The Tobacco Company Restaurant
She Crab Soup
Blue crab, dry sherry, cream, and red bell pepper
12oz Prime Rib*
Our house special, slowly roasted prime rib served with vegetable du jour and a baked potato
So glad to be back at Tobacco. A long-time favorite that we missed during the pandemic. Classic She Crab soup and Prime Rib were as amazing as always. Crab stuffed mushrooms were a highlight. They also created fun non-alcoholic cocktails for a pregnant woman! The live band was excellent.
Had a great evening at the Tobacco Co. - fabulous eats and great atmosphere as always.
Date night with the wife. Our waitress was Rebekah. She was outstanding. She recommended the She Soup, which didn't disappoint us. That was very tastefully satisfying. Our main entree was the Chicken which came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The restaurant was very warming and like a mosaic piece art work.
We have waited for the restaurant to reopen after the fire and finally got back to Richmond to dine there. It didn’t disappoint. Truly enjoyed our dinner there.
Beautiful place, great ambiance, hostess and all servers were friendly and attentive, meals were served hot. My husband and I wanted to share a wedge salad and they actually split the salad on two separate plates; it was a beautiful thing. The cat fish and salmon dinners were exquisite.
Tobacco Company has historical significance, plentiful ambience, and attentive staff. As if that weren't enough, the food is delicious, quantity is spot-on, and presentation is just right. The restaurant's proximity to Virginia's capital of Richmond is an added bonus. The cobblestone road facing the restaurant serves to enhance the experience. We've taken out-of-town business-trip visitors to this restaurant to give them the condensed version of all Richmond has to offer!
Pre-Covid, I went to the Tabacco Company all the time. This is the first time since getting back out in public. I love the bar, but this is the first time for food. I was quite frankly disappointed. I had the meatloaf (comfort food). The bottom was burned, and the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were not hot. I am hoping it is just because they are working on getting back in the swing of things.
The meal, the service, the atmosphere, were all very nice but the noise from the band was deafening. People were telling at one another to be heard over the band. Plus, the band was not very good. The acoustics in the building are not conducive for a loud band. Maybe some soft background music would be more appropriate.
Liked the area where we were seated.
The overall ambience was good.
The menu was very limited.
We were celebrating my father's birthday. Yet, the restaurant did not give us any special birthday attention.
The food and service were both excellent. Recommend pork loin dinner and the fried green tomatoes app. Lot of food for the money. They do need better wheelchair access for bathrooms; however.
Food just average. Prime rib had little flavor and grilled broccoli not good. Salad good
Great place with good ambiance.
From the moment I walked in this restaurant I felt like this was a very exquisite establishment. I enjoyed my night with my fiancé. Celebrated with a bottle of wine, fried oysters, she crab soup and our entrees. I had the fettuccine cioppino, which was bland. Overall I enjoyed the night there 4 stars.
Great food, great service, great music👍🏼
Dinner with friends to celebrate my 50th birthday
I haven’t been to the Tobacco Co in at least 15 years but I remembered the amazing food & service and I was not disappointed. Everything was great! From the hostesses, wait staff, food, cocktails we all had an amazing experience. Thank you!!
An amazing building with great ambiance. The ciopino was piping hot and served over linguini. Th sauce was delicious. The shrimp and other seafood were perfectly cooked.
"I love the historical feel of this place and the different items they’ve brought in to decorate. We will definitely return again and will bring our daughter as she’ll really love it as well. The meatloaf was amazing and the portion size was on the larger side which you don’t get much anymore. My wife loved the prime rib and the green beans. Service was extraordinary and timely. Our waiter was super nice and helpful with all our questions. Prices were very reasonable for the total experience we received, we will definitely be making this one of our regular spots.
Beautiful atmosphere, great food and great service.
Food was amazing, wait staff was incredible! A band played from around 8pm on, making the place very loud and very hard to hold a conversation. Would definitely go back, but possibly at an earlier time to skip the band.
Food was delicious and worth every penny. Our waiter was tops, magically there when he needed to be.
The prime rib was not cooked to what had been requested. We thought $39. was a bit steep for this. We did not think the fried green tomatoes were cooked enough. They were very thick. We had also been asked if it was a special occasion when we booked the dinner. It was a birthday. They did nothing to recognize this. It is still a beautiful building. Wonderful atmosphere.
My husband and I went to celebrate our 5th anniversary. Open Table asks if you are celebrating anything but the restaurant itself doesn't. We told the hostess we were celebrating our anniversary but no one did a thing. Most restaurants will acknowledge you but The Tobacco Company does nothing. Then I ordered the prime rib and when the first thought is A-1 steak sauce, there is an issue!! It tasted like cardboard. There was more fat then meat. We left halfway through our meal because I was thoroughly disappointed. For the prices we paid for our meals I expected at more!!
Family celebration dinner - the private dining space was lovely but the food was very expensive and just mediocre. This was our second time to eat there in the past 6 months;
same thoughts on the food. We would return to the bar area on nights when they have live music (the musicians both nights were terrific!) but would probably dine elsewhere.
Absolutely lovely. The food was amazing. We really had no issues. My only problem was how close we were seated to other people. Wish we had some more space. Overall, worth it!
Our waiter was excellent, very attentive, we wete 20 minutes early & they were able to seat us early, the plannts ,the oldwood are soo beautiful. Everyone was very welcoming . The food was great!
Every detail was perfect. Excellent service, excellent food, can’t find better ambiance in Richmond. Live music showed up hen we didn’t know how it could get any better. Played at the perfect volume and perfect genre for the setting. We will 100% be back. Best dining experience in Richmond in the 3 years we have lived here. Great anniversary dinner spot.
Excellent food/excellent ambiance/loved the decor & building. Will def eat there again + recommend it!
We had a group of 6 celebrating two birthdays and a reunion of college friends. We were seated on the second floor in a nice closed area. There was a live band playing on the main level and it was slightly hard to hear when they were playing. The meal was moderately expensive but the portions were large. The wine list was extensive and reasonably priced. The server was busy and not very attentive. The meatloaf was flavorful as was the pork tenderloin. The crab cakes had a lot of filler and were mediocre. The sides were good as were the appetizers but we would not recommend the she crab soup. It was not hot and lacked a rich flavor, it tasted very floury. The butter cake on the other hand was hot and very flavorful and we would recommend.
Awesome meal. The building and the staff were beautiful. A truly exceptional experience for us as a family.
We chose Tobacco Company to celebrate our Anniversary. They met our expectations and we were very glad to have chose them to celebrate.
The restaurant is beautiful. We were underwhelmed with the food. My wife and I both thought the food was salty. She had the catfish and while the fish tasted good, the salsa topping wasn't expected as the menu description. The corn bread was dry and bland. The gin tonic was too basic for the scale of restaurant. Service was excellent. We will try again and hope for a better outcome.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Our server(Brooke) was very attentive, personable and professional. Thanks to her ‘spot on’ advice we all had the best experience in 16+ years of enjoying the Tobacco Company.
Started out great. Ambiance was great and service was good to begin with. Steaks were wonderful but Wahoo (the special) was over cooked. Server did not offer a replacement and took a long time to check back. (She did not charge us, though). It also took her so long time to bring a dessert menu after we said we would like to look at one that we decided just to ask for our check.
After being newly engaged, my fiance and I were really looking forward to this. The tables were really close together and people kept hitting our arms as they walked by and we ate. Food was just"okay" and not worth the money. Server brought our dish After the extended wait time and never returned to check in with us.
Great quality and well composed menu. Both the prime rib and the Scottish Salmon were excellent.
Vacation in Richmond VA
Great atmosphere, multiple level seating, great food
Great atmosphere and excellent service. Celebrating my retirement and rekindling many fond memories of all the happy events that we have celebrated over many years.
All our dishes from appetizers to dessert were outstanding. The butter cake for two was delicious!
