The Travellers Rest
Lovely evening, food and service . I would recommend this venue to my friends.
Had a lovely meal and would rump lamb. Excellent service and eas so helpful without rushing you out the door.
Just a lovely early evening meal - superb chilli con carne and great great service.
Great food, friendly service & good to see a local restaurant doing well
Lovely relaxed and cosy atmosphere. Nice decor. Food was beautiful and service was great. Ryan and staff were attentive without being intrusive. We had a lovely evening.
My partner an I went for Sunday lunch
The food was fine but at £17.50 per person the price was far to much
The Sunday roast was not what I expected and definitely not worth the price we paid
Incredible food and excellent value for money. Will definitely be returning.
We had a lovely meal and the staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome, we will definitely be booking again soon .
Although I was fairly impressed with the service and food, I thought it was very expensive - in particular the coffees. I've never been charged £4.00 for a small coffee before!
For this reason, we will not be returning and will not be recommending it to other people.
When we arrived we was shown straight to a table. The pub was quite empty and there seemed a lot of staff so was surprised that 20 minutes went buy without been asked if we wanted a drink so had to call someone over. Menu choice is quite poor really on a Sunday not a lot of choice on the starters apart from sea food or duck and also same again for mains. Chicken was really rubbery when asked the waitress said it’s actually boiled not roasted so shouldn’t be called a roast very expensive for the quality of the food .
A few items on the menu had sold out - not re ordered ,waiting for Boris’s words of wisdom on Monday . Starters were good smoked mackerel pate and potted duck . My gammon was tough my friends was ok , bacon chop very fatty . We were asked if we minded the owners dog being brought into the pub, we said ok but please keep away from our table - the dog was brought in wearing a nappy which promptly fell off !! Luckily it was time to go home 🙊
Really enjoyed our first visit . The staff were very helpful and accommodating .The food was great all came together , all hot no complaints at all .
Third time here it is really good and great value food is excellent
We went on Sunday the menu was limited so it was a choice of Sunday roast tomato pasta or fish & chips... so a bit disappointed with choice.. we were sat too near the door with people coming in & out all the time... when the food arrived after a 45 min wait for 3 meals...the plates were cold & the sides were brought separately a few minutes later.. we had to ask for condiments & they forgot the gravy so we had to ask for that.which was really watery.... the staff were really apologetic & really friendly... the food was quite good though... we will go back but on a different day,
Very disappointed with the whole experience. Was looking forward to a lovely meal.. apparently a roast dinner.. pork chop .. pan Fred chicken breast.. not a roast. Soup was cold .. when it was served to the table my family had eaten their starter... wrong drink order. Thank goodness it wasn’t raining as we were asked to wait outside before our table was ready (4 mins before our booked time). Over priced average food.
Booked in for Sunday roast - party of 6 at 4:30. shown straight to the table and drinks order taken almost immediately, as did the arrival of cutlery and linen napkins. Everything was compliant with Corvid-19 rules and, despite the fact that the restaurant was busy, accordingly, we felt safe. Drinks arrived quickly, as did the starters, but it was 6:00pm before main courses arrived. Generally the food was of a good standard, although the vegetables served in the separate tureens were significantly hotter than the ones on the plates served by the waiters/waitresses. One of the desserts was unavailable and, for whatever reason, we could only have an ordinary coffee - no cappuccino/ latte/etc. (problems with the machine?). This critique is meant to be constructive yet, at the same time, I am aware that it's still early days since the reopening. The combination of a relatively large number of covers from day 1 , and a young and inexperienced staff( who, by the way were attentive, polite and hard working) means there are bound to be "glitches", but potentially this has the makings of being one of the nicest restaurants in the area. I wish them every success .
Visited multiple times now, this time for Sunday lunch, and it didn’t disappoint. Roast turkey was lovely, and veg complimented it well. Banana and caramel mess for desert was equally as good. Good selection of beer and wine, and waitress was very polite and friendly. Top marks once again for The Travellers Rest.
Service was very good. Food was good. A little on the expensive side. Overall not bad.
I have to say we've had our best meal for a long time, the food. service, friendly staff, coronavirus awareness, beer, the menu choice, inside and outside dining, I could and should go on, but it would take to long!
We will definitely be back!
This is one pub that provides top restaurant - quality, taste and decor!
Amazing food and quick service, just a bit of a loud group behind up in a quite environment.
Went as a party of four great service great food could not fault it it is our third time
The food was excellent quality, cooked perfectly.
Portion size ideal for us - all four plates cleared!
An excellent lunch which was really good value as it was on the EOTHO. Staff lovely and friendly and we felt very comfortable. Only hiccup was we were unable to have coffee as they had run out! Find it amazing that no-one had been sent out to buy some beans and that is my only criticism.
Had a lovely meal. Staff were pleasant but a little disorganised - we were left waiting for drinks order to come etc. Just a training need. Food was delicious and a cut above pub food. Interesting and varied menu. Will be going back
Lovely, once again!
Firstly, the girls who served us couldn’t have been nicer, their service was very good and my ‘mediocre’ review is absolutely no reflection on them.
Secondly, my husband and I ordered the Beef Wellington and at £55 for 2 (not the £45 as advertised on their Facebook page) it was to be a treat. The piece of beef was very nice and beautifully cooked however that’s where my praise had to end I’m afraid. Everything else was very very bland.
My eldest son had the beer battered fish, in his words ‘it sucked’, again it was bland.
My youngest son had the kids Spaghetti Promodoro, basically spaghetti with tomato sauce. He enjoyed it but at £5.95 for a kids tomato pasta it was over priced but then the adults version, with a bit of Buffalo Mozzarella thrown in for good measure was a whopping £15.50! Ridiculous!
Overall we were disappoint and astounded at the prices. We can only assume they’ve ramped up the prices for the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme however we won’t be rushing back, if at all.
Our experience was first class from entry to departure. Service was top notch as was attention to current protocols, even better was the food, particularly the chicken on the bone that was very good. Mid priced menu with good choice of drinks
Food took a long time. Partners sides were cold. However lovely place and staff.
Thay took ower order brought out 2 plates of food then 15 mins later bought out the 3rd plate as there was 3 in the party
Then tryed to over charge on the bill
Covid precautions not.great.People.walking around without masks with only certain members of staff.willing to challenge them. Also certain tables..too close.for.comfort.
Once again fantastic food service and a warm welcome . In these difficult times reassuringly safe with staff wearing correct ppe and following strict protocol will definitely be visiting again
The food was good if a little on the expensive side BUT why was the owners dog tied up at the bar so people could trip over the lead , and is a dogs bed hygenic in a food establishment ?
With COVID restrictions the service was a little slow, a while to get drinks and make the food order however after that everything was fine, the staff were apologetic about the food not being ready which didn’t bother us as we chatted and drank wine; The food was delicious we had whitebait to start which we shared it was presented in a different way with a nice spicy twist. I had sea bass for my main cooked to perfection on a bed of cabbage and the best french fries I’ve had for years, my wife had the roast salmon salad which she said was excellent and beautifully cooked and presented. For sweet I had the Cambridge burnt cream and my wife had the caramel and banana mess both we’re delicious. We will certainly return!!!!
Unfortunately the menu that I had seen had been changed, so didn't get what I was looking forward to.
However the food was itself excellent but could have done with a bit more of it!!
The service was excellent.
Really unimpressed! Food was ok, had starter of potted duck which was tasteless and sirloin steak with a peppercorn sauce for main. The sauce was like water and again flavourless.
Ambience was awful as despite the current Covid guidelines and having signage everywhere saying they wouldn’t allow groups of more than 6, they allowed a large group of mixed households (family and friend) with no social distancing and congregating across the restaurant who were rowdy and drinking (no eating going on!). Mentioned it to the “manager” I think on leaving and he said he couldnt really day anything to them. Well, given there are new laws being passed for his behaviour with fines to pay for breaking the rules, yes I believe something could have been done about them!
Safe to say I won’t be going back in a hurry!
Excellent food, great service, staff were attentive and very personable. The Angus beef steak was superb and the Creme brûlée was delicious. I was also told they source most their ingredients locally which is great. We shall be back, thanks Andy
Was really disappointed with our meals on Sunday night at The Travellers after having visited there twice recently, and is was lovely.
We all had Sunday roasts, 1 chicken, 1 beef and 2 pork, waited about an hour for food, they did apologise for the delay...(think they had actually for got about us)
Beef was tough, pork was dry, chicken was fine, yorkshire pudding were uneatable, so dry & hard and gravy was like water... dripping all over plates... very poor and food was not piping hot... not one to complain but did tell waitress that yorkshire puddings were uneatable, she said she would tell chef, but she never came back to us, was a shame as previously really happy with our meals... would recommend to friends but not on a sunday
Excellent meal in lovely pub.
All food well cooked and locally sourced.
Exceptional in all areas. Pleasant friendly staff, outstanding food. This was our 2nd visit & would highly recommend even during these difficult times ❣
