Staff was so friendly and was a terrific Sunday Brunch
Really good food and service. On Sundays, no mimosas until after 10am. Will definitely be back.
Service was poor.
During the morning things were really quiet and service was great. Good setting for brunch.
Excellent food, well above expectations. Very friendly and helpful staff, a real undiscovered gem in Birmingham dining scene!
Starters of fried Brussels sprouts and Beet Salad were outstanding. The Bison Burger and Butternut Risotto were also very good. Excellent wines by glass and bottle at surprisingly reasonable rates.
We had reservations at 7pm. We ate there. The food was good but our server seemed to be overly worked and exhausted. We still tipped him because we understood, especially when it seems to be a shortage of people wanting to work. I'm more disappointed in the fact that our reservation wasn't acknowledged on open table as us being there and on time. The Elyton Hotel is very nice but we probably will never go to The Yard again.
The Yard was one of the few restaurants open New Year’s Day, and we were grateful! Our waitress was excellent!
New Year brunch
One of the worst meals I’ve ever had for any price much less for $200. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I have thoroughly enjoyed a Big Mac and fries more than this. My wife and I got 8 different things between the two of us. All of them were terrible. Some inedible. Who burns a salad? The Yard does. At least we are still laughing at how absurdly awful it was 2 days later. It was a memorable meal for all the wrong reasons. The ambience was nice and the hotel lobby was pretty but that’s the last time we will see it. We will not be back.
Great service and excellent food. Went NYE and they had a four course meal with good options for each one.
The food was absolutely outstanding! The timing of food arrival & asking if drinks need to be refilled or ordered, was lacking. However, I realize that in the time of covid - staffing is thin and over worked. The Yard has quite a bit of character in the restaurant design and enjoyed taking that in during the meal.
Christmas Eve buffet was outstanding with super attentive wait staff.
Great environment, friendly staff. Loved the interior and architecture of the restaurant.
Had a larger party for a special occasion. Vincent our service was so friendly and kind, and on top of everything. The food and drinks were delicious and it was cozy, and uncrowded on a Saturday afternoon for brunch.
First time there. Dinner out with a friend. Everything was great.
Great Thanksgiving Buffet!!
We had Sunday Brunch at the yard. Although the service was awesome, the food lacked authenticity. I had the American Breakfast with a side order of grits while my wife had the fish and grits. In both meals the grits were cold and lumpy. The rainbow trout was delicious, but the grits were just grits. Usually a fish and grits dish adds some zing to the grits. It's hard to believe that a southern chef would allow such a travesty. Next time I'll have the burger!!!
Great place to relax and enjoy a quiet meal food and service was excellent.
I rate The Yard “the Most… “ The Most Disappointing restaurant in Birmingham AL. . I would never recommend this restaurant for a friend who is looking for fine dining. A good joke on a friend of my enemy? Perhaps!!! My wife ALWAYS pick the best restaurant/ hot new spots. And I was praying this spot would give ME a WIN, NOPE! We ordered and a small plate app, The Caesar salad, Bourbon tomato soup, butternut squash risotto and some sort of chicken dinner, and an international bottle of wine. Let me start with the atmosphere- PERFECT! Great for cute date night photos to post to Instagram or just trying to impress the wife. The wine cellar was a perfect background for my wife and I 20 year anniversary photos. The STAFF- The bar and wait staff is manage by a husband and wife duo two ginger head people- who personality resemble that of a dead battery teddy rubskin’ stuffed bear. Or Better worse a see-n-say who makes “the cow says moo” for every animal but the COW. The husband was NOT familiar with the wine list making food pairing a guessing game- And the wife who apparently knew was too occupied with other non-existing guess to help. they ignore all Non-white patrons often passing by several times before recognizing you, The food experience was rushed, we received our appetizers and salads in the same sitting, red wine glasses was given for water glasses, Then linen was more of a polyester blend, and THE SILVERWARE!!!! let’s talk about THE FOOD! Shall WE! It was less than below average, the best part of the meal was the fire grill Caesar salad, the appetizer was SO subpar- I do not remember what we order- I do know it was over cooked. The TOMATO SOUP-was SO THICK!!! How thick was it? It needed meatballs and pasta! the butternut squash risotto! The risotto was so over cooked- it would make for a great plaster agent in a paper mache and the mushroom sauce was more like a paste of brown cream. I will save the next few characters to say! Crack is wack so is THE YARD
Our first visit. Great food, drinks and service.
10 year Anniversary and they were short staffed meal was very basic.
Poor overall. Extremely understaffed & unorganized. Disappointed.
I get the feeling that this is a newer establishment: a beautiful space with noble intentions. Upon entering, we encountered the heavy scent of perhaps a backed-up sewer in both the front and back of the restaurant - it was a little off-putting.
In a nutshell, the seasonal menu offered hearty dishes that could appeal to groups that have varied preferences. We ordered the chicken, risotto and the duck. We also had the chef's board (charcuterie) and the brussel sprouts.
The chef's board was rather scant for the $25 price tag - pimento cheese, 6 slices of cured meat, some blue cheese... and the (almost) stale bread took up the lion's share of space on the board. The sprouts were beautifully fried and the flake salt served as the primary/only flavoring.
Our entrees were well portioned, yet prepared in a heavy-handed way. The duck breast ate rather tough, given how thickly it was sliced, and I'd also offer that it was surprisingly devoid of flavor/seasoning, despite the demi-glaze. The chicken was a bit dry, and the risotto didn't have the rich, flavorful and creamy quality you might hope for - especially on a chilly, fall night.
We selected three desserts - the pear crumble, the mousse and the grilled pumpkin bread. Sadly, the mousse was bland for such a sumptuous, chocolate dessert. The grilled pumpkin bread is striking a cool, new chord - curious to know if ours was grilled too much? - rendering it dry. We really enjoyed the crumble.
The service was polite - albeit, a little clunky - not sure who was assigned to what duty...the staff was really eager to clear our half-empty appetizers...and came back three times asking if they could clear - we had to keep saying, we weren't finished.
There are merits here, in my opinion. For the price points, more polishing is important to truly make this a special experience.
This was the first time that my wife and I had ever been to the Yard. Very nice atmosphere, food presentation and flavor were EXCELLENT! My Wife ADORED the Vodka Tomato soup. We will be enjoying more dinners there
Hostess/server were both super nice and helpful! The restaurant was nice and quiet and food was delicious.
The reviews were great but the atmosphere, ambiance, and finally the food was not even close to being worthy of the price.
I ask if Chris was in the house but no.
I asked if there was normally music playing and dimmer lights for the dinner seating. Our waiter agreed it was a little cold and offered to turn on music and fix the lights. Apparently no one knew how.
I ate a $25 burger with cold pork belly on a day old bun that was hard and cold. No pepper jelly as stated on the menu and then I was charged for aioli. The candied pork belly was ok but cold. We substituted Mac and cheese for the apples and potatoes but were up charged for doing so.
Normally I would not complain but the server said he would like chef to know why I thought the food was just ok. A few minutes later chef stuck his face in the dining room to see me. I waved and smiled. Having worked in hospitality for many years I knew what he was doing.
$95 for two with one cocktail! We tipped really well be the server can be held accountable for lack of management and cooking skills but I will never go back. Too many places here that want my money. Sorry but this place is looser. Go to Jack Browns for a real burger.
Seated outside, as requested, very nice. Kitchen rush for wedding party brunch apparently caused delay in service. Food was mediocre at best. Greasy bacon and sausage, very tired breakfast potatoes that appeared from frozen, and biscuit was dry and required a knife to cut. No butter or jam was offered and no return by wait staff until we were finished. This was on the basic breakfast! BLT not as advertised with heirloom tomato seeming to be a hothouse anemic one instead. Chips were good. Staff was pleasant.
The venue was very nice. Service was a bit slow overall but especially from the bar. The last drink I ordered probably took 15 minutes. The issue was we were sitting in the bar area and could see that the bartender was just talking with other customers and ignoring the order.
Overpriced for under flavored. Not a good representation of southern cuisine. Staff seemed harried, even though the restaurant was mostly empty.
Quiet delicious dinner. Wasn’t sure what the food would taste like but was delightfully tasteful
The Love the Yard, BUT a few things..... advise your employees to NOT smoke in the alley. we were sitting outside and smoke was in our face from the careless smoker in the alley. TWO... waiter was sloppy and condensending. He needed more grace & professionalism. The sausauges on the American breakfast were the the tiniest pieces of meat I ever eaten.. Hopefully the restaurant owner/manager reads this.
We ate outside and the service was great and the food was phenomenal. We had Sunday brunch and the omelet was truly maybe the best omelet Ive ever had. My husband had the short ribs and eggs and said that was fantastic too.
The food was very good except my entree which was not well cooked and over peppered. I was disappointed that "outside" seating meant on the street (as opposed to an enclosed and more private patio as we had a lot of people wandering up and down the street).
Vincent the server was spectacular!! The food was fantastic and the price was better than expected for a 4 diamond restaurant. Definitely recommend.
Food was great. Service was great. Pricing is high.
The host (whose name I cannot remember) was SO accommodating and so excited about helping us have the best surprise brunch we could for my boyfriends birthday. He was wonderful and is an amazing asset to the yard. The server was friendly, drinks were good, and food came out relatively fast for the size of our large party. We’ve been for dinner a few times but we will definitely be back for brunch more often.
We enjoyed The Yard during Birmingham Restaurant Week for our wedding anniversary. For appetizers, I had the blistered shisito peppers while my husband had the panzanella salad. Our entrees were the rainbow trout with unicorn grits and steak and greens. I had the rebel hard coffee affrogato and my husband had the biscuit strawberry shortcake for dessert. The food was delicious; we had attentive service from the bartender and chef. Overall, we had a fantastic meal. My only constructive feedback would be the portion size. The food was so good, we wanted larger portions!
A very unique menu outside of the norm. The chef really does a great job matching seasonings & flavors that will excite your taste buds. If you want something different from the norm, its the place to go. Don't be afraid to venture outside your comfort zone, you will be pleasantly pleased.
Good ambiance, great for a nice night out. Wine list looked very good, and the specialty cocktail selection was nice. Friendly staff. Service overall was good but not excellent. My entree was wrong. The server didn't write down my order or repeat it back to me at the table and entered it into the system incorrectly. The drinks to accompany each course arrived either well before or after the corresponding dish, and my water was not refilled. Not terrible things, nitpicking a bit, but just examples of where the service was less than excellent. The food was very good. The blue cheese crema on the shishito peppers was watery and the blistered peppers were quite short of "blistered". Trout dish was outstanding and well balanced. Lemon sponge had a delicious flavor but was weirdly dry. The sponge had been cut from a larger cake but the outside was a bit hard/dry. Either it had been left out for a while, or it was intentionally heated on the outside but not for long enough to create any kind of appealing taste/texture. The accompanying cream tasted like it had been left out in the open in the walk-in for a day or two. The basil sauce was delightful but not nearly enough of it. Overall, a good meal with a few minor areas for improvement.
