Third Star Restaurant-Hyatt McCormick Place
We had a reservation for 10 people and the restaurant was by no means busy. Our server showed up to take our drink orders and again for food orders. We never saw her after that. She did not come back to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. Someone else entirely delivered our drinks and yet another person delivered the food. After we were done eating we sat there for an hour with no drinks, no water and no sign of our server. We had to ask for the check twice and when it was finally brought to the table there server was very confused about how we wanted the bill split. We literally had to look at the receipt and number it accordingly. The manager even had to step in to assist. Overall, the food was very good, but the service was absolutely terrible!
The food was great. I had the salmon which was delicious. It’s one of the few places at McCormack place where you can sit down and be served.
To whom it may concern,
We were seated and left unattended for far too long. Several others we seated after us and had begun their dining experience. Yet our waitstaff had yet to come to the table an make so much as an initial introduction. The host noticed this and came to check on us. He asked if we had been waited on. We told him no and continued to wait. After several more minutes we got up and left.
If the lack of attention paid to us was any indication as to the level of service that we would enjoy throughout the rest of our dining experience today, then no thank you. Our time and money will be better spent elsewhere.
This was a miss and we will not be returning in the future.
They did not honour my open table reservation.
Convenient for guests at hotel, and the coffee was excellent. Food was good, and prices were reasonable.
We were able to get in on an incredibly busy. Saturday evening. The buffet was OUTSTANDING. Will be returning.
Not open for dinner yet Open Table took a reservation for 5:30 PM
This was the worst restaurant experience I have had in a long time. My sandwich, a tuna BTL, was freezer-burned. The waiter never took a drink order - thankfully there was water on the table.
A business lunch gone bad....
We waited far too long for a server to offer us anything to drink--over 6 minutes.
Restaurant was closed in spite of me being able to make reservations. Fortunately the adjoining bar/restaurant could accommodate us.
The place was closed so we ate on the outside restaurant in the same area
Very attentive staff and good food at a reasonable price. Would come back again.
Never been to a Hyatt with such mediocre food. I’ve had better steaks at IHOP.
The issue I have is more with Open Table than 3rd Star. Due to hotel strike restaurant was closed and I had to scramble at last minute to secure a reservation at another restaurant for a dinner meeting with a very important client. I do not think I will relay on Open Table in the future.
They were closed for business on Monday evening, even though the reservation was accepted. There is an adjacent bar area that the management also oversees. They worked to accommodate us there, but the noise level and seating was not nearly as conducive to the business meeting I was having. Service was good, and the food OK, but with very limited selections.
Chef Jason went above and beyond when requested to prepare a special dinner for my business guests. All vegan or vegetarian, they were in for the ultimate dining experience. Starting with lemon curd hummus and buffalo style cauliflower the menu just continued to get better. From salad to dessert the artfully designed menu was described as "manna" and satisfied even the most discriminating palate.
Job well done Chef Jason - and thanks to all the staff (shout out to Kaci Zimmerman) who made the evening complete.
My reservation was cancelled the day before I was due to dine at the restaurant. I planned a pre-graduation dinner for 8 people because we have four elderly people and the graduation was at the Arie Crown Theatre. Cynthia called me and told me that the restaurant would be closed but that my party could dine at the Arc Bar. She said that they don’t take reservations but they would take our reservation and take care of us since our reservation was cancelled.
When we arrived there was no table set up for us. The server initially tried to seat us at a highball table. She had the worse attitude when I explained to her that the elderly people could not sit on the high chairs.
I talked to the manager and he appeared not to care at all. Our server was a lovely African American young woman and she was good. She gave us a complimentary dessert for my daughter because she was graduating.
It’s very disappointing when you make plans and business don’t provide good service.
Perfect for what we needed. The food was adequate, service was terrific!
Food was what one might expect at a convention center hotel. Not as upscale as a downtown hotel restaurant. Very open seating in full view of passers by.
The serving staff were friendly and attentive, and service speed was fine. The food was fine, not amazing or terrible. I was here for a business meal as it is attached to a conference centre so the location was very convenient, but unfortunately, with the adjoining bar, the restaurant was very noisy. There isn't a great choice of restaurants for business meals in the area surrounding McCormick Place.
Average food, overpriced.
The servers were nice but the service was slow. I had many meals there over a 5-day period. The noise level from the nearby Arc Bar in the afternoon and evening made it nearly impossible to have a conversation. The menu was very limited but if you are a guest at the Hyatt Hotel, there are no other choices. The prices were way too high for the value of the food and the experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone at all for any purpose. In fact, I would recommend that Chicagoans who are NOT hotel guests stay away so that hotel guests can at least have a chance for timely seating and and prompt service. The Third Star Restaurant was a huge dissapointment and made me regret that I'd stayed at the Hyatt -- and I'm a Hyatt frequent-sleeper.
A nice surprise in the quality of the food - I had a turkey burger and feel it is one of the best. My dining companions were very happy with their lunches as well and our service was excellent. Would go back again!
Third Star Restaurant has Great Food, Great Service and a Friendly Staff. The restaurant was extremely busy because there were two major Conventions going on at McCormick Place. I am so happy that I had made a reservation because people were standing in line to get into the restaurant and I heard that the waiting time was at least an hour.
I really enjoyed myself and will go there again.
