Tides Waterfront Kitchen
The restaurant is convenient if you are staying at the hotel. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The dinner menu is mostly toward the Mexican fare, but good. I think the prices are a bit high for what is offered. Breakfast is good and reasonable.
The restaurant was understaffed as it was last time we ate here. So we waited 15-20 minutes for a reservation we had made on Open Table 2 days earlier. The mushrooms were amazing and the local sand dabs and capers was very satisfying but the very expensive Halibut had no taste at all and was almost rubbery. Our bill came to over $100 for 2 people and 2 classes of Prosecco and I can honestly say we would not eat here again for that price. The dishes are overpriced which makes it hard to come here only for the delicious appetizers. With great restaurants just a LYFT or UBER away in Monterey, no reason to go to Vizcaino again and with the long wait - certainly no reason to reserve a table in February.
Unfortunately, the service (although it was not busy) was incredibly slow. Both morning and evening, it seemed no one was happy to be there.
The staff and ambiance was great, but the food quality was very poor. Would not recommend eating here.
It was ok but the steak didn’t have any flavor
Food was good but the view was magical
Joaquin is the perfect host with warm greeting! The food and ambiance also amazing!!!! There was one loud fellow at nearby table that hadn't perfected his inside voice though. Other than that, MARVELOUS!!!🌟
Friendly but slooooow service. Table side guacamole (how it was recorded on receipt) wasn’t made table side. And it was a tiny portion for $15.
Food was delicious. And I look forward to going back. I think the stuff that went wrong was a one-off.
I like it there for apps and cocktails. Dinner is less than impressive.
The service was warm and efficient and we all enjoyed our meals!
Our reservation was for 5pm when they opened. We didn't leave till 7;15 because the service was so slow. The problem seemed to be in the kitchen. Our daughters food was cold. They were out of prime rib and dessert. We hadn't eaten here in a while and doubt we will go back. Don't mind paying those prices on Xmas but the food was disappointing.
My husband and I were there for our anniversary, and the food was very good. We ordered the calamari appetizer, and it was good. I ordered the swordfish, and the sauce was amazing. I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the snapper, and he loved his dish as well. We ordered a creme brulee for dessert, and they comped us since it was our anniversary. The food was excellent, and the beautiful view was fantastic, and our server was fantastic. We will definitely be back.
It was a rainy day, but the view was still beautiful. The waiter (I don't recall his name) was outstanding. He was very accommodating. And the food was great.
We stayed at the hotel and for our anniversary night we chose their restaurant for the lovely view and convenience of not driving. The view at 5:45 was after sunset so though gorgeous during the day was dark then. The hostess was not particularly friendly but seated us next to the window, at the time no one was around us, so was quiet. (Later she sat a couple with2 children, not so quiet) Since I had written it was our anniversary, I kept waiting for our waitress to mention it, but she never did, which was disappointing, especially at dessert time. Dinner, I had the red snapper which was extremely salty. My husband had the chicken which he liked. The sangria we chose was Rojo, traditional, not the other two which she said were sweeter. I would recommend one of the others, as this was only decorated with an orange slice, no apples, as the
menu stated, and was tasteless and bitter.
Overall, the ambiance was okay, but not particularly romantic. I would recommend it for breakfast or lunch.
My recommendation is mixed. The coffee and sangria were terrible. The Thanksgiving dinner, particularly the salmon, was excellent. Breakfast was very good --- except that coffee: very bad flavor.
The view was nice, but the menu had limited options and was not very vegetarian friendly.
Just really not worth the price
Awesome views of the Monterey Bay while dining. Esteban is the best!! Great service.
I sat at bistro table next to fireplace with an outstanding view of the water. I had shrimp and pasta which was great along with a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc. A nice relaxing evening. Would definitely recommend.
Highly over rated sad to say . Let’s start with the Sangria ... it tasted sour and was the worse I have ever had .
The limited food menu one would think it would be cooked top notch . The pork was tough and overdone and the pistachio crusted Halibut .... there was no pistachio and I though halibut was white .
On a positive note ....The server deserves a high rating she was friendly and courteous and checked in quite often . The salad was the only good part of the meal .
Based on all this not likely to ever return
Service superb, food excellent but the views are like nothing else. Romantic beyond belief. I highly recommend this place!
Great ocean view. Good food. Service was good. Very pleasant.
Excellent restaurant for both lunch or dinner dining. View is unbelievable, menu, including fresh fish, is excellent, and service attentive & accommodating.
We arrived at 5:00pm and were immediately seated, that was good. However, the service was extremely slow and it took over 45 minutes to get food to the table. The food was OK but not great, but the view across the sea to Monterey seemed to make up for this. In talking with a regular customer seated on the table next to ours he said that the food had gone down hill ever since new owners took procession of the hotel but overall, we enjoyed the evening.
Our night began with us ordering top shelf vodka martini’s up and we were told they were not able to make these drinks because they ran out of martini glasses. We settled for a glass of wine and beer. Next we ordered the tuna tacos which were filled with more thousand island like dressing than fish. It must have been a theme for the night to over dress the dishes because our potentially lovely salad was drenched in vinaigrette and we could hardly finish the small portion. Finally our main course arrived which was swordfish with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Everything on this plate was cold and terrible. The mashed potatoes were unrecognizable and the fish seemed to be prepared hours in advance. I know they had a large wedding at the hotel and am suspect they may have just given us a few leftover dishes from the reception. I could barely take two bites and I pushed away the food. A nice bus boy came by and took the plate not even noticing that nothing had been eaten. Insult to injury was getting the final bill and though we never asked for our salad or main course to be split on separate plates, they went ahead with this nice gesture then charged us $6.00 per plate for it.
We are so done with paying $700 a night for ocean front hotel rooms to have their on site restaurant be below fast food standards in quality and service. Next time it’s In and Out burger to go.
Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Great views, quiet area, excellent service.
The restaurant was packed. The front door greeted us with a smile. Due to the amount of people, it took some time to be served. Besides that, everything else was great. Delicious food. Great views!
Had lunch with a friend there last Saturday and had a wonderful visit! Very good food, scrumptious dessert, great service, nice ambiance, expansive ocean view and spectacular entertainment courtesy of a pod of whales close to shore that gave us all quite a show! This place keeps me coming back!!
The food was perfect but the server Carlos was not attentive and will ask for a different server next time. The cocktails were not made i. A professional way and didn't taste worth the price of $14. I feel like I was rioped off.
Not as busy as usual so really nice. Thanks
Cool view of the beach/ocean. My boyfriend loved his fish tacos. My chicken sandwich was pretty good. Definitely a good stop on our drive, but not necessarily a destination.
We really wanted to like this restaurant...but nearly everything about it was a disappointment. Maybe this place is categorized more casual than we thought but the menu/location suggested it would be nicer.
CON- The service was "friendly" but slow, unorganized & overall unprofessional. From the moment we checked in there were unhappy guests ...a couple leaving- saying they'd never been treated so poorly- and the table next to us complaining about the food having no flavor, to which the "manager & waitress" gave them a bottle of their "go to" hot sauce to remedy it! ???!
We had to ask for water and bread after being left for quite a while with an empty table. When the food finally came, it was nothing special- husband's steak was good & my pistachio crusted halibut had about a teaspoon amount of "pistachio crust" & was just ok...and the side dishes on both were cold and tasteless....when we finished we were left for over 20+ minutes with empty plates/drinks waiting either for our desert or check...we really just wanted to leave but couldn't get anyone's attention. Our dirty plates were finally cleared and our waitress said do you want your (already ordered) dessert here or should I pack it up to go...? Ummm, here would be good. It was brought...no offer of coffee or a refill on our water... We ate our dessert, payed our bill (tipped 22%) and left. Never to return.
Really an unfortunate evening that we had hoped would be a memorable one, being our anniversary and all.
PRO- The location has a great view and the set up inside is so every diner can see it!
View was fantastic and food was super delicious! Highly recommend!!
Celebrated our 41st anniversary here. We were the first customers. Strongly recommend reservations. We did after being turned away the previous day. Took forty seven minutes before food arrived. No draft beers at all, seemed they were out. Our waiter, who didn't share his name, was awesome, did his best. Prices are fair and the food we ordered was good. For us, the Vizcaino was all about the view of the ocean which somewhat countered the problems we encountered.
Good food, LOVED my halibut, date's swordfish a tad dry, great choc chip cookie dessert. But had loud family with kids next to and anothet very near us. Nice folks but not a quiet enough place to have a romantic meal. Disappointing, will go elsewhere for romantic dinner, at least during tourist season!
The only thing that was an inconvenience was the screaming child, but the parents were usually quick about keeping them quiet. I also asked for an unobstructed view and didn’t get it, but we still had a nice view overall.
Had our best Italian food-experience in LA. Very well homemade pasta and great Italian wine. (Found our favorite from Montalcino).
Simple and precise. Honest, friendly and professional servants. Would love to come again.
This is a great place to enjoy an ocean view and good food.
Loved the food, service was a bit slow cuz they were super busy. We requested Don Julio anejo tequila but got some other brand of Blanca, if you know tequila then you understand that Blanca is a much lower quality than anejo and our server was not honest about it. Anyway other than that it was a good meal and beautiful sunset overlooking the ocean
The food is always good. The service is always a little slow. I don’t think that it is the wait staffs fault, however. I think that they are understaffed. The view, of course, is fabulous.
