When we walked in the front door we were in the middle of the dining room. The place was full and it wasn’t clear where to find the hostess to be seated. We stood at the bar and waited for someone to acknowledge us. After several minutes, one of the 2 servers finally stopped and asked if we had reservations. Mind you this was after some awkward avoidance of eye contact while they hustled past us several times, leaving us in a state of total confusion as to where to wait. Service was extremely slow. We waited about 30 mins for our antipasto appetizer which was good when it finally arrived followed with an additional 30 min wait for our entree. The decor was unattractive and it was severely understaffed. The food was ok.
Always great food and great service. Our favorite restaurant in Plymouth
This was our first time at Toscana and we loved it. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, inside, the restaurant is quaint and small but offers wonderful meals and keeps up with the crowds. Our server, Courtney, was lovely and engaging. We chose chicken scampi and swordfish for our entrees which were absolutely delicious. We look forward to returning soon!
Great leisurely dining experience. Seemed like the restaurant was transplanted from Boston’s North End, minus the high prices. The wine and drink selection was extensive and the main entree and desert were delicious. My only recommendation would more Gluten Free desert options. The most unique part of the evening was Ja Ja’s Piano Bar. The “Name that Tune” part from tv & movies was a bit challenging, but quite fun. I’ll be back again and often.
Wonderful little gem on the outskirts of downtown Plymouth.
Courtney was delightful, very easy to talk to, quick efficient and was working be herself!! The keyboard player was an added bonus, nice touch for the evening.
Food... well we have since been there 4 times never ordering the same entrees and have not been disappointed! Good flavorful, hot, well presented and good portions! And the dessert: chocolate lava cake is so smooth it’s like pudding!
Well worth the extra steps or drive avoid all the wait lines and relax in the great hidden secret!
There was 10 of us and we were the only people there. It took 45 minutes to get a drink and an hour to get food. 2 of the 10 people never got their meals. Appetizers came out after the meals. There was only one woman working in the whole place plus the cook. We honestly felt like we were bring punked and the camera crew was going to come out at any moment. So much more to tell but I don’t have time to write a book lol.
This restaurant was suggested to us as out of town visitors
The ambiance was great and the food value for money was high
We were visiting the area to go to a wedding.
We would come back to this restaurant just for the food.
Marta ad Mary Beth made a great team.
Service was not very good Friday night one person in building got wrong bottle of wine was asked if I want to open it was asked 3 times what kind of wine I wanted food was not very good was quiet but one my 2 tables full
Excellent service and food at this quiet neighborhood gem.
Amazing food, great service, romantic environment. The food was impeccable and the dessert to die for. I highly recommend the cannolis, they certainly gives Mikes in Boston’s north end a run for their money. We will definitely be back.
5 huge stars.. bravo!
Hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. Our waiter was new, unfamiliar with the menu, delivered wrong dishes, and we didn't receive one dish and one drink (but were still charged for both). He did not apologize - instead, he blamed the computer system, the kitchen, etc. The food that was received was very good, but not good enough to make up for the horrible service.
Friendly and timely wait staff. Food was very tasty and well presented.
We will be dining there again soon.
We love coming to Toscana. The food is always fabulous as are the owner & her staff!
Toscana is truly a hidden gem just south of downtown Plymouth. The fact that it's on a quiet block by its own, away from the other restaurants and bars, and has no parking lot, may be why it's off the radar for so many. Go find it! We've been several times and had excellent meals and incredible, personalized service -- when we arrived for a 645PM reservation last Saturday, we were the only people in the place! The owner/host/chef/bartender is friendly, attentive, and makes amazing authentic Italian food. I will make a point of returning more often, especially in the summer when the rest of Main Street and the Plymouth Waterfront is overcrowded -- I'd prefer a great meal in a quiet restaurant rather than waiting an hour for a table.
By far one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to... I spent two months in Italy and Toscana's brought me back all over again. The food is so delicious and authentic. I have to travel to get there but it is so worth the trip. Everything on the menu is outstanding and I can't wait to get back there to try something new. Marta is not only a great cook but a very warm and charming host.
Love it here! Went with my boyfriend on our anniversary and it was the most amazing time. Great food, great service, great environment.
Food was great but service was off. Not sure if they were short staffed or what but another couple walked out and we waited 15+ minutes after being seated just to get menus.
Expectations fell short. Valentines day, they could not find our reservation but were able to seat us in booth because there were tables open. It had a lunch bar/cafe atmosphere with red and white decorative lights and loud cheesy music. Our booth seats transmitted vibrations from the adjacent booth. Two serving staff were working hard and apologetic but wait time seemed long. We opted to take out. Menu selection was limited; the food was hot, the braised short ribs were good, lobster ravioli fair but too heavy on sauce.
Food was great. Service was very poor. This is actually my first review ever, and am writing it because of how bad the service was.
The ambiance was lovely. The restaurant featured white table linens and mood lighting. The food was delicious. My husband and I began with the antipasto salad and an appetizer of rolled eggplant and cheese, cheese raviolis and meaty meatballs. We each ordered the gnocchi pasta dish, mine with shrimp and my husband ordered his with chicken. We enjoyed every last bite!
Authentic Italian food that everyone in our party of 11 loved. Slow-paced, quiet environment allowed for an enjoyable meal and good conversation. My Italian family never rushed through a meal because “gathering” was as much of the purpose of dinner as was the food. Since everyone talked about the appetizers, entrees and desserts all weekend, I have to highly recommend Toscana.
First visit Friday Night Food was very Good Great service. Away from the waterfront in Plymouth so no waiting and fast service . Very Enjoyable atmosphere
Fried calamari was mushy with a huge amount of dough. Antipasto was very nice but the rest of the food was very average. There was a cook and server only given that it was a weekday. They were both very nice. Neither knew anything about the wines they carry. Red wine had been in cooler overnight and I actually asked the server to microwave it for 15 seconds to get it somewhere near room temp. Website advertises early bird specials. Neither knew anything about this and there was nothing noted on the menu. The server called the owner but the info that came back was very unclear. Again the staff were very nice. I have to put this all on the owner. Very disappointing since a visit a few years ago had been very nice. We won’t be returning.
Chef and waitstaff was engaging and attentive. Made me feel very special on my birthday. Have already recommended place to family and friends. Will definitely go back soon.
Old converted sub shop, and it shows. Menu is enticing, but the food is C+\B-. Arancini were good. Pizza looked good but was almost strangely flavorless. Server was pretty nice and accommodating but overworked. Only one server all night. Wine/beer selection is kind of weak and overpriced. Softer lights would create more ambiance. Caprese salad lacked basil—a key to good caprese! Pretty mediocre experience for a $90 dinner for just 2 of us. Had a much better experience across town the next night for similar money. Should have known when the place was SO empty when we arrived. Really wanted everything to be great. It’s a place to root for, but disappointing in the end.
Are there only three tables that were occupied during the entire evening that we were there. That was from 7 to 9 PM on a Friday night. The server was very friendly but she took a while and taking our order and then when she did she didn’t really pay any attention to the fact that the salads might have been ready to bring out. The food was very tasty we all had something different I had the veal piccattawhich was very good salmon was tasty swordfish was dry.
Would go back
Appetizers including eggplant were outstanding
Entrees needed more flavor but will return to try other choices on menu
The food was excellent, with a very cozy table, the staff was very friendly, we had an amazing time
When we eat in Plymouth we typically go to one of the big restaurants on the waterfront. This time we tried something different and it was just what we wanted- intimate, quiet, family owned, authentic Italian food, special. The owner is the cook and the server. She is warm, engaging, has a wonderful history and make the night special. We asked her what she recommended and her suggestions were perfect. If you want something more personal and special I highly recommend it. We will go back regularly.
One of the best homemade dinners I've had in a very long time. The owner, who is the main chef there, was also our waitress and she did her best to make us want to go back. And we definitely will!!!
We ate broccoli Alfredo fettuccine pasta and chicken marsala, both of them deliciously A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! Definitely recommend this place!
Marta the owner was very nice! New to area so we decided to stay away from the oceanfront and spread the business elsewhere. Great choice! Will be back !
Toscana Ristorante is just what I crave when I want authentic Italian just like my grandmother made. I especially love the tiramisu with espresso so always try to save room. The fried mushrooms were delicious as was the lobster ravioli in vodka sauce. I can't wait to return!
First visit. It was okay, the prices were fair, but they were understaffed. The food was pretty good though the pasta was a little over cooked. Also, they couldn't figure out the new coffee machine so we left without that ending grace note. We might try them again when heading to Priscilla Beach Theatre in the hopes it will be improved.
Unfortunately we read a positive Yelp review and decided to give it a try. Mistake!
2nd...it's a bar with a few booths and tables, bar tv loud, no "dining atmosphere"
3rd...hostess is waitress is sever. Yoga pants and lack of class
4th...tableware is bar ware. Oil dish for bread was a saucer for coffee.
5th...oval lasagna casserole served on round dish, rocking as you eat, def not Bolognese, more meat sauce
6th...food poor quality for a high price, after Fruiti de Mari was served, no calamari in dish, when we told server, she came back with "we forgot it, would you like us to cook some up and bring it to you?"
7th...ladies bathroom had faucet set that pulled off when used
Only plus, glasses of house wine nice size!
One waitress for the entire restaurant, she was good but it was hard for her to keep up. Food was fair. Stick with wine... worst cocktail I ever had.
Very good food. Leisurely dining experience
We walked in with a 5:45p reservation for our family of 5 with small children. The restaurant was about 1/2 full and it appeared there was only 1 server and 1 Person filling waters. There were only 2 tables with food. Everyone else appeared to be waiting.
We were only there for about 10 minutes and realized under the circumstances we weren't going to be feeding our kids any time soon, as the table that came in after had menus and we still did not, so we left.
Please do not take reservations that you can not accommodate.
Our waitress was amazing, the food was superb, would recommend to anyone in the Plymouth area, it's a romantic little spot away from the hustle and bustle of Plymouth center
Very nice intimate dining. Personable wecoming staff paired with delicious authentic food.
No wait, excellent menu. Very cozy (small establishment) Perfect for our family outing. The food was delicious, not one complaint. We did have to wait for our meals over 20 minutes after our appetizers, but our conversation filled the wait. I would probably visit again.
