This place is excellent. Ambiance, food, service, wine...all top notch.
My girlfriend and I were staying nearby and wanted Italian for dinner, so we made a reservation. The place is small, which makes the atmosphere a lot more personal, in my opinion. She had the Shrimp Scampi and I had the Lasagna. The food took a little while to prepare, which is expected being as the meals are entirely prepared from scratch. When it came out, it was hot, flavorful & fair sized. Not too much, but definitely enough to fill one up.
Definitely a wonderful experience.
Service was very good. Food was ok.
They offer many choices for food and drinks for happy hour. The Cabernet was very good. The pear gorgonzola salad with sustainably sourced salmon was delicious. The eggplant parmiagiana was also very good. The wait staff is attentive without being intrusive. Very cute place!
The bread was stale and beet salad was an arugula salad with a few strips of beet. Everything else was good.
Being vegan, we are very happy that Trattoria Ponte Vecchio has quite a few vegan dinner options and in their own section so that a "hunt" isn't necessary. The drink options and wine list are extensive with lots to choose from.
Intimate, excellent food.
Got last minute table on Open table. Seated in the back near Noisy waiter station(probably due to last minute reservations) Extra dry basic bread came late, after salad. Entrees were good, good size portions. Gnocchi good but not great. Bolognese pasta was good but not the meat sauce flavor I'm aquainted with. Server was great. Will return to try other dishes.
Service was slow
The shorter of the two receptionists was really rude and questioned that we actually had a reservation and looked at us like we were lying after a very friendly gal had already checked us in and quickly verified our reservation. We sat at the table for 20 minutes before our waitress came to our table to take a drink order and then the drink wasn’t brought to the table until our dinners were brought to the table.
Great restaurant with a view over Torrey Pines marshes, really awesome at night when the train goes by, looks like it is floating on air.....
Been here before. Food was fine. They had an “off” night. Really off.
Great meal and environment for casual 1:1 business meeting.
We had a reservation and waited for our server to greet us for quite a while. She was a very good server but clearly overworked. When we finally got our starter, they put sauce on it so we had to send it back. When the item reappeared, it was a third of the amount they had brought before. We didn't complain. The entrees were good, but the long wait times between visits and water refills left us disappointed in general. We really wanted to like it there. I DID appreciate the large number of VEGAN selections. For that reason I would recommend this restaurant to my vegan friends, but with the caveat that that they should come at lunch or a less busy time of day.
Amazing place, great staff and delicious food. I am vegan and they have a full vegan menu!!
nice little restaurant with good food and friendly service
Great food. Helpful staff but it was loud to sitting close to the kitchen and trying to have a conversation. I’d recommend sitting in the outside patio so you don’t here the kitchen noise. Having said all this, the food was amazing. It will keep me coming back!!
I am not one to write reviews often unless a place is amazing or it really disappoints me. I just moved to this neighborhood and it was my first experience and was hoping it could be my new Italian food spot. We had a 7:15 reservation and got there on time. Our first table offered was right next to the hostess desk and the heat of the kitchen was strong. No AC. We asked for something near the door and they accommodated. It then took almost 15 minutes for anyone to come and take our order. We were not offered bread even after sitting for 15 minutes and needed to request it from our server when she took the order. I ordered the risotto with asparagus and my son the gnocchi with vodka sauce. By 8pm we had no food and were never offered more bread or any explanation why our meal was not out. I stopped one of the servers and asked to speak to the manager. No manager ever came over. At 8:05 our meal arrived. My risotto with asparagus was bland at best and lacked the cheesy taste from good parmesan that the dish is known for. Very brothy. I smothered it with grated cheese to try to compensate. My sons gnocchi seemed too al dente to me but he liked it. We were then asked if we wanted desert and said no. We were ready to go. Then our waitress brought the check and I again asked if the manager was in. She said that she was the manager. I asked if she was open to some feedback and proceeded to tell her how long we waited to eat and all we were offered was bread and water until our food arrived 50 minutes after we did. She told me that since everything is made fresh it takes longer. Bad answer. I make gnocchi fresh and it takes only a few minutes to cook. The sauce is already made and simply ladled on. As to the risotto, that takes under 20 minutes to make. So either they lost our order or were not organized in the kitchen. Either way, the 4 star average seems high for this place. It was not terrible by any means but definitely not 4 stars.
I’ve been to the restaurant a few times and suggested it to a friend for an early dinner. She hadn’t been there under the new management. We enjoyed a lovely meal, sitting out on the patio. The inside of the restaurant is rather intimate and can be noisy. We both had salads and the stuffed eggplant appetizer. The eggplant was delicious. Perfectly baked and the sauce was delicious. Service was very nice and we enjoyed a very pleasant dinner.
Dinner was excellent! We sat on the patio and enjoyed the sunset. Food was fabulous - we had short rib ravioli and chicken parm- and both were very well prepared, presented and delicious. Service was attentive without being intrusive, which is an art form in itself. We’ll be back!
Been to this place three times in the past two weeks. Love the food and the vibe.
Fantastic food and view!! The food was mouthwatering and the service was excellent. Can't wait to go back!
A very nice Italian restaurant with a killer view!
Amazing, authentic food.
A small, top-drawer Italian restaurant in a lovely location. Both indoor and patio seating provide ambiance, views of the lagoon-wetlands and a low noise level. The egg-plant parmigiana was terrific and the owner, unbidden, switched us to a patio table that had opened up from a cancelation. Yes, go.
Everything was great. Service and food outstanding!
Perfect hidden gem. Don’t blink or you’ll drive right past it. The staff was welcoming and friendly. Atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. We sat on the covered patio with views of the wildlife preserve. It was happy hour with appetizer and drink specials. We shared meatballs, bruschetta, and calamari. All were really delicious. Salad was fresh. Entrees of pizza and shrimp fettuccine were tasty. We will definitely be back.
Great dinner. Staff was preparing for a group and we were forgotten. No offer for second glass of wine.
This is one of our favorite places. The food is always good. We love that it’s relaxed, but elegant. As vegetarians, we were thrilled when they introduced their vegetarian/vegan menu, but were sad when they discontinued the Impossible Burger, even for lunch. We have friends who are gluten free, and they enjoy this place as well.
Fantastic experience at every level
We have eaten here three times in the last several months and the food and service is absolutely phenomenal. It’s a smaller location with very personal and friendly service. Highly recommended!
Trattoria Pointe Vecchio
The food is always Great!
They do have a new chef.
I did not like the new Caesar salad.
We go there at least once a month.
We had a very pleasant experience. The food was very tasty and the service was friendly and efficient. Will come back again.
Thank you very much for dinning with us and taking the time to share your experience on OT. WE look forward to seeing you again.
We were a group of 4 who enjoyed dinner at the restaurant. I ordered eggplant parmigiana with roasted vegetables, my brother had the chicken Marsala and my daughter and son in law shared a fish dinner with pasta. We also had ordered the brussel sprouts an appetizer. The food was delicious and well prepared; however, the shared fish dinner would have been enhanced with a bit more pasta and a side of the colorful roasted vegetables. The platter was a bit colorless and skimpy.
Called us to change res time, which we did. Once there told us they would have to move us to a different table at some point - not really sure why. Ended up not moving us, no explanation. Empty tables remained around us. Also charged $3 to split our salad - didn't warn us. I would have easily shared if knew of a charge. Food was good, nothing extraordinary.
Authentic and quaint! My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary while vacationing in Del Mar. The best italian food I’ve ever eaten.
Had another wonderful date night dinner at Ponte Vecchio. We started with a nice bottle of wine - the Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. We shared a great Cesar salad, great dressing. Our entrees were excellent - pappardelle with vodka sauce and the sea bass with vegetables. And to top it all off, their tiramisu is awesome!
Lovely dinner. Excellent service and very good food. Wonderful location. Definitely would go again.
The food has always been great, but the last 2 times it has been served cold, and lacking the usual quality. I'm not sure if they've changed chefs, but it is not as good as it used to be.
For the first eleven years of its existence, Trattoria Ponte Vecchio was owned and run by an extremely talented Milanese chef named Daniel. Each night he brought enthusiasm, served great food and made the restaurant a local gem. When he sold the restaurant to new owners the ambience was unchanged but the cooking suffered. Because of this we did not return to the restaurant for two years. We've now been three times in the past two months and the good news is: THE GREAT COOKING IS NOW BACK. It is great to see the restaurant return to its prior quality. If you've not been lately, go back!
