Happy to support neighborhood dining. We live two blocks away. Food and drink has been better than it was this time around. It was a windy evening so the flutter of the tent was a little loud. Service was very good and love that our dog, who loves the homemade dog biscuit and bowl of water she gets, was welcome to join us. Their home-brewed imperial stout was tasty.
Excellent, friendly service with appropriate covid precautions in place and their usual super food and drink selections did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
We always enjoy going there and appreciate them being open at their outdoor seating with heaters at this difficult time. The servers are always great, the food is too and the outside atmosphere with the heaters and gazebos is really nice.
They said their outdoor seating was heated. It was so cold that morning with crazy Chicago winds, and you could barely feel the heaters they had going. If they were not present, I wouldn’t have noticed any difference.
The food was ok. My friend ordered a cheese dip thing and it was so cold inside the tents that the cheese was never eaten melted. It was completely cold from the moment it hit the table.
I ordered an orange juice. The receipt revealed I received a “large” OJ for the small sum of $3.50. This OJ had to be no more than 10-12 ounces. For THREE DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS.
I also added toast to my order of Chilaquiles. When the waiter got to the table, he laughed and said “There was another piece of toast but the wind blew it away.” And that was that. Like, carbs are my favorite thing in life. I honestly can’t believe this place thinks this is acceptable.
The chilaquiles were ok. The salsa tasted a little bitter/burnt but that honestly could have been the flavor of that particular salsa, given its deep maroon color. But there was a serious lack of salsa. The dish was so dry.
Finally, I added on hash browns as well. I was really hoping to have a second meal come out of this! The “hash browns” for $4.00 were not something I’ve ever experienced before. They were pretty much a small bowl of those shoestring potato stix. Crunchy little chips. I was expecting actual hash browns that were warm and cooked and soft.
And then there was the COVID Fee on the receipt. Which I knew about in advance, but after the terrible food and service, it was hard to suck that up.
I still tipped 20% b/c I wouldn’t not tip appropriately under these circumstances. My word of mouth will balance out my horrific memory.
Will never be back and would never recommend. I will however leave a review on every site I can find. A $75 brunch for such a bad experience really sucks. And the whole “sorry, the wind blew away and your toast” thing boggles my mind.
The actual time to be able to order dinner was half an hour later than the website stated. Also, the wait time for the lunch was nearly an hour after ordering. The lunch menu was limited. Brunch has been excellent prior to this day.
2pm reservation. Seated and ordered by 2:15. Left at 3:20 with no sign of food and repeated promises it was almost ready.
Burgers and beer were good. Service was incredibly slow.
Food was very good as usual and they have a great outdoor patio. Service this time was not up to their usual attentiveness.
The staff was amazing. The food was excellent. They do an amazing Jon in the patio of keeping every safe and healthy
Great outdoor space. All our dishes were tasty. Service a little slow but attentive and thoughtful. Be back soon
Made my birthday extra special! Will always remember!!
Food was amazing, service was impeccable and had heaters and fire area to keep us warm. Thank you!!
My first time here. Great food, lovely patio with heaters.
OpenTable did not make clear that "standard" seating was outdoor seating. With temperatures below 40 F, and non-functioning heat lamps, this made for a rather unpleasant experience for us. Pre-COVID-19, we ate regularly at both Uncommon Ground locations -- the food is great, and the ambience is always energizing. I do wish though that OpenTable could have made plain that standard seating is outdoors, as it would have led us to an alternative restaurant with physically-distanced indoor seating at reduced capacities.
Love the new patio arrangement. It’s like a tent city. There are probably about 10 tents with 3 sides and heaters by the tables. They had one gas fire table that was beautiful. I definitely felt safe there.
First time trying Uncommon Ground and absolutely loved it! The food and service were excellent and the outdoor seating with heaters was delightful. Will go again next time I’m in town!
Just what we wanted, tasty food and beverage in a safe, distanced outdoor setting, cooked and served by an appreciative and attentive staff — all doing the best we can during these times. The salmon (crispy skin and all) and meatloaf were on point. Continued success and safety to all at Uncommon Ground.
Wait time was very long 45 minutes for lunch. When it finally came received 2 orders burnt. Told the waitress she said sorry fo you want another since we waited so long for the 1st order I said no. Didn’t offer to take it off bill. Whe. We got the bill both lunches were on it. I said something about it then they ended up comp one lunch only. Food was bland and burnt will not be returning here. Was very disappointed because it’s such a cute place!
We can't wait to go back. The food is amazing and healthy. The employees are so wonderful too.
On a positive note the covid precautions taken are excellent and the pretzel appetizer was delicious. The rest of our dinners were meh. My daughters are veggie burger experts and the black bean burgers had no flavor. My fish tacos were too fried and I felt that’s all I tasted. We ordered a pizza to go in hopes my daughters would have something later to eat and it came burned.
The ambiance is beautiful so hoping maybe we caught them on an off night for food preparation.
Great outdoor patio and COVID guidelines make dining feel safe and fun.
Super outdoor setting and good attention to safety from COVID!
One of the most relaxing outdoor dining experiences in the city. The food is excellent and the waitstaff are devoted to you having a wonderful experience.
Michael was our server and he was absolutely fabulous!! We will definitely go there again next time we visit Chicago.
We had a wonderful first experience at Uncommon Ground in Edgewater. The safety precautions were excellent and the food / atmosphere were even better.
Looking forward to our next visit!
Love this beautiful outdoor space. Great food and service.
Outdoor seating due to pandemic was appreciated and enjoyable! Great service and a very good (limited) menu.
Beautiful night to eat outside. Our waiter was efficient and patient as we all scrambled to replace masks each time he brought out food or drinks. Everything was delicious and the quietness of the setting allowed us to have a nice visit with our son & his girlfriend to celebrate his birthday. We have a ton of allergies and they were able to handle them all, including having a dedicated frying vat for french fries. The fries were fabulous!
Too expensive for the quality. Too many bees unfortunately and my chilaquiles were good but very few eggs for the price. Latte came cold and was watered down. I used to come here years ago, was disappointed but the ambience was lovely.
A great experience! Staff were very friendly and COVID-conscious, we enjoyed wonderful burgers and beer with an equally great outdoor patio ambiance and music selection.
We go to Uncommon Ground whenever we visit our son in Roger's Park. The food is always delicious. I appreciate all the precautions they are taking with Covid-19.
They’ve done a wonderful job turning a parking lot into a horticultural oasis!
Uncommon Ground is doing an exceptional job during COVID with protocols and a fabulous experience. Highly recommend their patio for a great meal and conversation.
Great place for noms and hangs. Everything’s delish and the drinks are heady.
The team at Uncommon Ground in Edgewater is doing a terrific job protecting their customers and staff. This was our first dining experience since restaurants began re-opening and we will definitely return. The tables are at least 10' apart, they've made the outdoor space beautiful with canopies, planter, lights, etc.
We really enjoyed our evening and our server Michael was wonderful!
Too stringent with mask wearing. It was difficult to enjoy my food and drink, because every time the wait staff came anywhere near, we were forced to put our masks on, even if we were in mid bite!
I thought $13.00 for a bowl of mac and cheese with a sprinkling of bacon bits, was over the top expensive.
Good food and service. They are conscientious about safety.
Brunch was delicious, COVID-related policies where well communicated and enforced, and the tables were well placed for social distancing. Staff was also very kind and even offered our dog water in a metal dog bowl. It was a much needed and very enjoyable summer outing.
Not much selection on the menu. Drinks were good. And the Sweet potato appetizer was outstanding.
Not only was it expensive but there was an up charge for Ice with drinks and then another up charge because of COVID. Between the poor wait staff, and all of the additional fees we won’t be back.
