Pan Seared Gulf of Maine Scallops
native & hominy corn, roast field peppers, soy beans, romesco
Maine Lobster Paella
saffron rice, blistered tomatoes, peas, chorizo, chili butter and lemon aioli
Crisped Brussels Sprouts
charred lemon, aioli, toasted walnuts
We had the scallops and the pasta with crab. We added sides of Brussels sprouts and carrots. All were very well prepared and interesting variations on what could have been ordinary dishes. We finished our meal with a unique chocolate pudding and a disassembled carrot cake. The service was attentive and helpful.
Great place for brunch, good service, even had gluten free toast
Top notch food, great service with excellent recommendations. Nice ambiance and spacious. Would love to eat here again. Pricey but worth it. Really impressed with crab/pasta entree. The oysters tasted amazing.
Great service and great location! Food was delicious!
Delicious dinner! Wonderful service. Was just what we were looking for.
Both our entrees were served luke warm. Server encouraged us to place both apps and entrees together so kitchen could time. They fell down in the timing. Must have held our entrees. Not that impressed.
Great food, great atmosphere, professional staff. Highly recommend!
Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way….hard to get into on short notice, presumably because of Covid restrictions on capacity. That’s it. Do not blame the restaurant nor does it affect my review.
Upon arrival, advised to wait a minute while they cleared the table. By the time, the host turned around it was ready.
Had the scallops for dinner along with a local hazy IPA. The scallops were perfectly seared along with the roasted potatoes, baby asparagus in a creamy lemon zest sauce. It had mushrooms which I don’t usually care for, nor did I ask to have removed. All together, an excellent balance of flavors. Closed with the affogato, which is espresso poured over ice cream along with a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. The chef is to be commended! Food rocks! Difficult to actually make a choice as there are several great options for dinner.
Most importantly, the service was truly excellent. Meaghan was extremely efficient while remaining extremely personable! Not something you see too much of anywhere these days. Keep that excellent service going along with a rotating menu as it will guarantee that I come back on my next visit to Portland in a few weeks.
Reserved table ready on time. Food was good. Service was very good.
Union hit for the cycle last night with me and my guest, excellent service, super knowledgeable bartender, outstanding food. Oysters were epic (had three orders then called for supplier the next day) and salmon cooked perfectly with well integrated sides. Waitress got everything right. Thank you so much.
We had a wonderful meal at the Union restaurant!
Great service, pleased they had a gluten free bun, great food
There were service hiccups throughout our time at Union (we waited a 1/2 hour just to place our order).
Menu was quite limited- no salads which was a bummer at lunch/brunch.
Service was slow - seemed understaffed. Food is always good!
We had a great dinner and loved the ambience. Service was terrific.
Would definitely recommend.
Great food, fantastic service and nice atmosphere. Will definitely come back!
We went for the brunch from Portland's Wine Week 2021. The menu was delicious, wine pairings amazing, service friendly and thoughtful. I loved the atmosphere and I look forward to returning!
Scallops and Sole were outstanding
i wish there was at least 1 vegetarian meal on the menu with every change
We will DEFINATELY return to the UNION Restaurant!!!
Very good restaurant. I had a brunch.
Tasty food and good service
We really enjoyed our meal here! The only thing that was a bit of a bummer is the menu had changed from what we saw online (we checked that morning, it must just not have been updated) so we anticipated options that turned out not to be available.
Had breakfast very good Great wait staff very attentive
Ashley our server was incredible. Knew everything about the food and cocktails. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Thank you so much Ashley!
This was the worst dining experience we have ever had. The food was not edible and the drinks were not good either. The atmosphere was nice but the food was expensive and very poor quality. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Good food, great service!
Food was good but server was not great. Be prepared to wait and really don’t recommend if you are pressed on time.
Excellent experience tonight. Food was very good and definitely worth the price. Service was great. Definitely recommend visiting if you're in Portland.
Always good food and service!
Had the goat cheese appetizer and the scallops for my main entrée. Both were superb. Everyone else in the group also enjoyed their meals very much. The quality of the food at Union has always been fabulous. The restaurant was also very accommodating when I had to make changes to my reservation three times! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening!
Great food and wonderful service. We are from out of state and this is the second time we’ve been here. We’ll be back.
Service was really bad but everything else was awesome. 7 people, 3 hour meal, only got asked for cocktails twice.
Salt and pepper squid was divine as was the goat cheese arancini. Wine and drinks nice. Faroe island salmon great, roasted beets a bit under (fine by me). Scallops tasty, yummy herb creme. Brussel sprouts excellent. Not michelin star but very good. $200 with tip. Handy and very nice valet.
Was in Portland, Maine, for vacation and stayed at The Press hotel. Ate breakfast and dinner at the Union. Staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. Food as always was great. Definitely a repeat choice.
Union never disappoints and it’s wonderful that it is getting back to normal. The scallops with mushrooms were outstanding-the mushrooms were almost as good as the scallops which were perfectly cooked. All four of us enjoyed our dinner and looked forward to going back. Our server was friendly and informative and indulged me with blue cheese stuffed olives in my martini for my birthday. We had a great time!
I appreciate the theme, "altogether local", but while important and even laudable, that's not the point. The food is so extraordinary it leads me to believe Chef Berry could transform most any ingredients magically. The attention to detail in ingredient pairing, preparation and presentation is world class. At this level of execution, having a server actually interested in enhancing our experience rather than her experience was just what was needed to top off a 10 star experience!
