The food was below average and the prices were so high for what you are getting!
The atmosphere was wonderful, you feel transported. Our server Carolyn was so knowledgeable and knew the menu so well. She made our first experience so much fun and yummy! We loved the mussels and the fish and chips. We will be back.
Verbena was lovely for a girl's lunch...the food and service were impeccable!!!
The food was ok.. it came out cold and took forever to get.. they were not busy so I am not sure what the problem was. The service was good. The food just was ok
Stilton salad was so very delicious. The salmon was perfection with its crisp skin. Beautiful environment and quiet for an intimate evening. Waiter very helpful and friendly. We will be back...with friends
A wonderful evening from the delicious food, ambience to the delightful staff
Good food. Great drinks. Beautiful atmosphere. Definitely will go again
Joined a friend for a delayed birthday lunch. It was the first time we have dined together since the Covid quarantine (7 mo). We chose to eat on the patio at Verbena for this momentous occasion, even though the wind was fierce. We both ordered the Beef Stroganoff and it was delicious, perfect for an Autumn day. Our server Carolyn S. was fantastic. We enjoyed the ambiance, especially the William Morris inspired wallpaper and the Citrine color upholstery on the booths.
We were a party of 4 who dined on 10/16. We dined on the patio and the view was wonderful. Our table however was not spaced at least 6 feet apart from the table behind us. Fortunately, the tables on either side of us stayed empty. There were space heaters but come prepared with a heavy sweater or coat because once the sun set the heaters weren’t very effective. Our server was excellent. She was attentive without being intrusive and worked to make our stay enjoyable. In fact, every staff member that we encountered was helpful and welcoming. The biggest disappointment was the food. We had the sea bass, scallops, lobster ravioli, pasta dish and salads. The sea bass was overcooked and dry. Likewise, the scallops and lobster were overcooked and chewy. The pasta dish was underwhelming. Moreover, the chef was unable to accommodate a peanut allergy. I would return for a happy hour or in nice weather drinks on the patio but sadly I will not return for a meal.
We love the look and feel of Verbena.
We have dined twice and will definitely return.
We hope a chicken entree can be added to the menu soon. There are a lot of fish (allergic) and meat dishes but no chicken...which would be a very nice addition.
Secondly, the food is quite good, well prepared and beautifully presented. However, for the price we do feel there should be a little more on the plate.
The ambience is lovely and comfortable and almost feels like a Parisian upscale cafe.
Perhaps a Happy Hour is forthcoming. If so, we will be back sooner than expected!
The sommelier is excellent. He was able to recommend a wine that paired well with both my mussels and my friends pork. A feat I thought impossible, but he made look easy.
Very enjoyable experience for our anniversary !
Service was fantastic and food was excellent!! We started with the mussels and didn’t want them to end!
The food was not good. Maybe my wife and I go to dinner too much, but we have had better meals at just about every where else in town. You are better off going to the food court at Costco when it reopens.
My wife and I had brunch--my only complaint was about a coffee refill. When we received our bill, I was charged for a refill, thus I paid for two coffees! Most restaurants refill the coffee at no charge! There was no mention that refills are charged! i just thought that was quite unusual! It was French pressed and very good, but a bottomless cup of regular coffee for a leisurely brunch would have been my first choice; i would not have asked for a refill if i knew it was going to be an extra charge
The beef stroganoff was the best I've ever eaten. We ate on the patio, which was like being at a resort on vacation.
Verbena has an exceptionally lovely patio and spacious interior. What’s with the heavy lunch menu offering “ dinner style “meat -driven “ menu. Chef recently removed their lobster salad and Cobb salad, without any lighter and healthier salad options. I ordered their chicken Caesar which come on a small plate for $16, and I wish plate was larger with more lettuce. Said “no blue cheese” but there was a huge glob in my salad dressing. Needs menu update.
Excellent service, setting is beautiful.
The salmon was perfect!!!!
We had lunch outside on the patio and enjoyed the sunshine on a beautiful day. The salmon was delicious and staff was attentive and efficient.
Excellent restaurant, ambience and exceptional service. Very special yet not too costly. My only comment is wish there were more affordable wines. Only a couple in the $30-40 range
Food was cold & mediocre. Nothing close to Cafe Provence.
Food was good but as good as our first visit. Somewhat didappointed
Firstly, the ambiance, the decor, and the area were absolutely stunning. The restaurant and surrounding scene exude wealth, luxury, and are an incredible spot to showcase to outside guests. The view is gorgeous and everything inside and out is top-notch. Sadly, the food did not follow suit. Don't get me wrong, the list of ingredients was incredible and had really complementary flavors and were dishes with items you typically do not see in KC. But the entirety of our meal was underwhelming flavorwise. The New England Clam Chowder was good, but the clam was chewy. The Kennebunkport Lobster Roll was missing a lot of flavor despite having an abundance of Lobster (and I mean an abundance...it was overflowing). The salmon was a hearty steak but the only thing we kept saying was... it doesn't taste like much. Bottom line, for the price (which is high), the food is better at many other places and cheaper.
Food was amazing. Had the shallot tart, clam chowder, flat iron steak, and topped it off the the honey buckwheat and chocolate buttermilk cake for desserts. Will definitely be back. Atmosphere was fabulous, as we ate on the patio, so I haven't even seen the inside of the restaurant.
Everything was just ok. I don't know what I was expecting , maybe something more intimate, cozy and French Our waitress was was very nice and energetic, she was a plus.
Other than that I wasn't impressed , and will probably not return.
I was really excited to try out Verbena for my Mom's birthday dinner. The staff was kind and helpful when it came to recommendations. Unfortunately their recommendations fell short in our eyes. My mom did not enjoy her meal and barley touched it. I really think they need to figure things out here. The overall satisfaction of this meal did not reflect the very pricey bill I received for it.
Overpriced and underdone food. Not typical of a New England / American menu. Salad was tasteless and no dressing. Only greens. Tarts were cold/ not warm as stated on menu /lousy dessert selection. Had dinner there one night and lunch next day . Too bad as the place is charming and spotless and the service was excellent.
Verbena has a pretty setting both inside and on the patio. The service was nice. I had the Steak Salad and an ice tea. With tax and tip it came to $30.00. The salad was just OK. I would not order it again. My friend had the Clam Chowder which she said was also just OK. I will give it one more chance but only because of the pretty setting.
We had a wonderful experience sitting outside and having dinner. Our server was delightful and courteous. The food was wonderful! We will definitely be back!
Lovely patio and appealing menu.
A beautiful brunch for our anniversary! Great service and food. Highly recommend the honey buckwheat crust dessert (it's like a fancy smore). Yum!
Wanted to love Verbena based on the space/location and the ambiance. However some of our food selections were not good at all. We made a point to take our servers recommendations and still found a couple of the appetizers to be off putting. Entrees were but better but not the level I would expect from a finer dining restaurant. I hope they can figure things out as the potential for a great experience is there.
I had called to see if we could change our reservation from outdoors to indoors because it was a very windy evening but asked if we could have the ability to see what it was like when we got there to determine if it would be too unpleasant to sit outside. We were assured we could have our choice after getting there, but when we arrived our table outside had been given away,so we had to eat inside. The ambience inside was nice so that was all good, however the food was just so-so.
Amazing lobster roll and wine! Didn't hurt that the weather was amazing on the patio. Can't wait to go back!
We have loved our times at Verbena. This last time was so special as we had our grandson with us and he loved sitting outdoors and filling up on the delicious bread service! We are happy to have such a nice place close by. Great food and great service!
The host was rude & condescending. Our server was kind & helpful. The food was good but not for the price point. We had many flies at our table (indoors), two of which wound up in my friend’s half finished glass of wine. I forgot to check to see if the replacement glass was comped. The space & surroundings are beautiful! I’m not sure I would go out of my way to return. I know these are trying times, so I’m trying to take that into consideration. I wish them well.
Sorry that I am unable to give the 5 star rating for each category, but I must admit that things were not as perfect as I expected. For example,
our party of three was seated next to the windows at an outdoor table. I was surprised that the tables were so close together and all being seated without social distancing. Next to us was seated a family with young children- a toddler and a three to four year old. They were very noisy. I feel that Verbena is a high end restaurant and although I am certain you can accommodate children, I was not going to Verbena for a family meal even if it is on the patio. Perhaps they could have been seated a little farther away or in an area away from the adults.
Our server was very helpful, but a little hesitant to interrupt our conversation to take our order. I am sure three chatty ladies can be scary, but we really are scariest when we are drinking without food. Please encourage your staff to ask the patrons if they are ready to order instead of looking and walking by the table.
Also, the salad and Duck risotto were outstanding, but the hamburger was over cooked. I do not remember the waiter asking “how would you like it to be prepared!” Even if not asked, the chef should air on medium rare for a burger, since it can always be cooked more, but not less.
We LOVE Cafe Provence and hope you will continue to Improve your efforts to be as top notch as your sister restaurant.
We dined on the patio, our preference because of Covid. It was nicely set up. Great service, with prompt delivery of food an drinks. I had the seared scallops, they were cooked to perfection. Delicious. My husband had fish and chips and had enough to take some home. It was a delightful dinner.
Excellent waitstaff and good! We will return.
