The North Hero House Inn & Restaurant
Disappointingly, our reservation was cancelled through OpenTable by the restaurant. When we called we heard a voicemail message saying only that the restaurant was closed. We couldn’t find any further information on their website. We hope they are OK and look forward to the possibility of a future visit.
We had a great 40th birthday celebration. The noise, when loud, was us! The staff was great, helpful but never intrusive. There something delicious on the menu to suit evryone.
We will certainly return!a
So sorry to write to say how disappointed we were with the food but the service was wonderful and everyone was friendly. Must have been an off night - will try again!
Made a point to get here after an out-of-state doctor's appointment, and we were very happy we did. Split a salad, bread was outstanding, and plenty of food even without appetizers. Farm-sourced, very tasty. Save room for dessert! The chocolate pot de creme with bourbon whipped cream was to die for, and big enough to split. Go!
We had a very pleasant evening in a beautiful historic restaurant. The food was beautifully presented, well prepared and reasonably priced.
Fantastic as always. Loved every bite from starters to desert and coffee. Will keep going back!
You always want to see success for nice folks. Jane and Josh, the owners, are working hard every day creating and crafting new recipes. Wild Roots is a labor of love and worthy of support of quality cuisine with easy access along the I-89 corridor. Give them a try.
The service and ambience were excellent. However the entree choices on the menu were very limited and the restaurant was even "out of" at least one of the limited selections. There wasn't any chicken or fish on the menu. I attended the restaurant with my wife and a friend. We all ordered the same entree and we all felt the food was not properly prepared and our small servings of veal were smothered in a ketchup like sauce that overwhelmed the veal. We also all agreed that the Polenta tasted like scrambled eggs. Our appetizers were better and the cocktails were excellent. But the check for the three meals and drinks came to almost $300. The restaurant is only about a mile from my house so my wife and I will definitely go back and give them another chance. We have been going there off and on for many years, when they are open. During the past five years or so the restaurant has gone through several managers and chefs. It is located in a small rural community in central Vermont. I suggest they focus on offering a good, affordable, well prepared foods and a dependable menu rather than trying to be Vermont's Hidden Kitchen.
You must go to this glorious restaurant!! The food is divine. Every dish is inventive and the flavors, combinations, and presentation are top shelf. Service was great.
We are from the Boston area up for the weekend. We always love finding a local farm to table restaurant and Wild Roots was just perfect.
Not the tasty high quality food we were expecting. The cheeses were superb, the highlight of the night. The signature lamb dish was tough and grizzly. The only discernible flavor in the rabbit dish was the yummy butter. Service was inattentive. While they are committed to best quality local ingredients, they are missing the mark on actually cooking the dishes. Disappointing evening.
Great unique food from local sources. While the menu presented a limited number of selections, the selections were diverse... and there were no bad choices... from lamb to seafood to poultry to vegan dishes. The food preparation was unique and delicious. The wine list was similarly limited and of great quality without being tremendously expensive... whites and reds from France, Italy, and South Africa. Frankly, in my opinion/experience, this type of menu is rarely found at good restaurants and suits my eye as I didn't have to go through a bunch of choices to pick the meal and wine I wanted for the evening while I and my partner happily ended up with exactly what we were looking for... and that is despite the fact that I ordered something I had never eaten previously! My partner and I were completely satisfied with our meals and look forward to returning soon for another Wild Roots meal.
Truly amazing dining experience. We were ushered to our table by one of the proprietors who recounted the history and philosophy of Wild Roots. The wait staff was charming, helpful and attentive. They have a full bar with several choices that were perfect for a hot summer evening on their deck. The food was innovative and delicious, sourced from small local farms (we live here so we know all of them). Even desert was ice cream from the local creamery. Great experience. Only regret is that we didn't find Wild Roots sooner - we can't wait to go beck!
We went to Wild Roots on a friend’s recommendation and it did not disappoint. The food was fresh and creative, everything was of the highest quality with superb presentation. The chef personally explained how the food was prepared! I would not hesitate to recommend Wild Roots to anybody and look forward to returning in the near future to sample the newest offerings as they change often based on the available ingredients.
Flavorful locally sourced ingredients make a delicious dinner. Always creative and beautifully presented. Superb mixologist as well
Our first visit to Wild Roots was excellent. Dinner outside on a patio, friendly service, and amazing food. I felt like I was in southern France.
On our return trip, two days later, there were new menu items, inside dining in cozy front room, warm lighting, great drinks, a generous cheese course, warm bread, and a service like you are at a friend's house for dinner. A wonderful find. We will be back.
The food was good, but pricey and small portions and would have been better with rice, potatoes, quinoa, etc, or veggies also.
We ate on the deck. Perfection. Vermont at it's best. The food was outstanding. Also the wine and cocktails. When they say LOCALVORE, they are not kidding. Wild Roots is the real deal. They also allow our wonder dog on the deck. So life is perfect!
Great mock-tails, imaginative menu with fresh ingredients from the farms in the neighborhood. Lovely staff who are passionate and knowledgeable about each dish.
Food was fantastic. As was service and all staff members who greeted us
I would drive the 2 hours again to enjoy this restaurant
Very beautiful space, gracious hosts, excellent service and my butter chicken dish is one I will remember. It hit all the right notes for me. We look forward to our next visit.
We go at least once per month. Love this restaurant! Fantastic food, amazing bar, wonderful service.
We chose to sit at the bar which is in a lovely room. The wine by the glass selection is wonderful, many interesting choices. My husband and I shared a burger special and a couple of veggie sides. Every aspect of the food was spot on, from presentation to taste. Each bite of food was an explosion of incredible flavor. All ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Highly recommend for a memorable dining experience!
The new chief is excellent....their was four of us so we all ordered something different and tasted it all was very good... we highly recommend wild roots....new wine list also very good...
Vacation- found this off the road gem on our way to Burlington, VT. Farm to table - Food was amazing!
Always wonderful. I had Beto beans with lamb sausage and poached duck egg. Incredible. Sprinkled with arugula blossoms. The bartender, Jeanne, spoils me with perfect unique cocktails.
The place was charming and the gentleman that owned it was lovely but what came out of the kitchen was horrible.
Wild Roots has a new chef and the meal was fabulous. This restaurant is a real gem. Luckily we live close by but it is worth a drive and very close to 89.
Excellent and creative kitchen with local sourced food and super friendly staff. Very pleasant experience. Highly recommended!
Food and service were, as they always are, amazing. We love this place and will return often.
It was a great evening. The staff were all incredibly friendly and well informed about the food. The food was also delicious and very original. The building itself is really beautiful and well restored. We were having a great time with friends so didn’t mind but the service was slow.
Can’t go wrong! Always good! Great local ingredients very creative!
Fabulous. It lived up to all the previous reviews and we will be back. Love the mood you have created!
A truly great experience. One of the best meals I have had in a long time. The service was top notch. And the meals were just out of this world! We will be back!!!
We had a wonderful experience at Wild Roots. The food, all locally sourced is delicious. Every single one of the dishes the 5 of us ordered was amazing-- as in every bite. And the service was impeccable. It is a real find-- head and shoulders above other restaurants we have visited in the area; it is well worth a long drive!
I love Wild Roots. Few restaurants are truly committed to local foods in the way they are. The menu changes regularly. Luke, at the bar, is knowledgeable and fun. I try to get there as often as possible. The wine list has many unique and delicious options by the glass. I just attended my first "burger night" last Wednesday. So much fun.
Excellent cocktails, attentive staff, and well-crafted food. Happy to have finally visited and we look forward to returning soon.
Have been here twice now and the food is excellent. Service here is personable and attentive. They remembered us even though we had only been there once before.
We love this place. Service is always attentive and friendly. Food is always amazing.
Wild Roots was a great choice for my annual Gala for my small staff of two. It was intimate enough but also festive with other folks around. The food was superb and service great.
We would have appreciated a more elaborate desert menu.
