Great and creative food. But service assignments a bit confused. Fortunately the bar person covered for the other two. Didn’t know the place existed (nor the hotel it is in) until the restaurant across the street was full.
Took a couple friends here for the first time and WAR did not disappoint. We were seated right away and our waiter Cory did an excellent job making suggestions for drinks, appetizers and dinner. The biscuits were delicious! I had the duck tacos, they were unique with a lot of flavor and a bit of spice. My husband had a steak (New York I think) I didn’t try it but the French fries were yummy! Our friends shared the ribeye which was massive! I had a smoky old fashion to drink. It was very smooth. Can’t wait to go back!
Please your masks correctly. They must be over the nose.
We enjoyed the food. Interesting and unique flavors... cooked perfectly. We thought the concept of sharing everything between 4 people odd. Mostly, because the family style of dining was very poorly explained. Very confusing. It took forever (really 1/2 hour!) to get one glass of wine and one scotch on the rocks (which cost $25.00). We had to inquire three times. Service was just average. Not sure if we will go back. Lots of money, not a great experience.
Menus were given and all four of us ordered salmon after five minutes we were told there was no more salmon. The service was slow but not because he was bad but because there were to many customers for the amount of waiters. There were two large parties going and the one off the main dining area (where we sat) was extremely noisy
Great food! Really enjoyed the variety of items on the menu.
Great food, service and ambiance! I highly recommend!
lighting is super bright land set a mood of a cafeteria. lights needed to be dimmed.
service was scattered, food was mediocre except for the salad. I think we would go back for a drink but not for dinner...
The food was delicious and we had a great waiter! If you order the steak frites you’re going to get enough delicious french fries for two people. Of course, my favorite were the buttermilk biscuits
Numerous service issues
Great service. Great recommendations. Great wine. Great food.
We LOVE this place!!!! It’s a normal date night for us even though it is a little higher end, but worth every penny! Their Local Salad is literally the best thing I’ve ever eaten! I love their biscuits and basically anything I’ve tried there I have loved!!! Make reservations though!!! And do it soon! They book up because they are THAT AMAZING!!!
Stopped here the night before we flew out at the end of our vacation and it was the best meal of our trip! Located inside a hotel complex, the environment is a nice blend of modern, classic and fun. I'm happy to say the menu and food matched that description as well. My wife and I both enjoyed seafood options along with the house salad and biscuits. The biscuits were simply awesome with both butter and the housemade jam. Both of our entrees were very good too and just the right portion size. Some fun cocktails from the bar rounded out an excellent meal. Kudos to the chefs and waitstaff for making it great!
Nice setting. Ordered the Scallops and Shrimp small plates and biscuits. The shrimp dish was good. Received 2 scallops and rice in the other. One large, one medium. Not worth the price tag of $22 bucks. The biscuits were nice and done on the outside, a bit cold on the inside. Our server was nice enough to replace, however, they were still cold on the inside. Perhaps that is the intended result.
Wonderful food in a very nice setting. Sort of a Tapas style with many small plates and a few larger plates all intended to be shared. Quality of the food and preparation are excellent. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Note that plates come out when ready which I am fine with. Wine list was short but fairly priced. Overall dinner for 2 with cocktails, wine, food and desert came to about $170 with tax and tip.
Chicken Fried Steak was excellent. Highly recommend. The biscuit was a bit dry and the butter was unsalted.
Excellent food, very pleasant service, an overall very good experience. The menu is a bit unusual — no appetizers or entrees identified as such, rather a collection of plates that might be either and are intended for sharing ("social dining"). I was dining alone and concerned that one of those plates might be too big, but it was not — it meant I couldn't try two things, like one might do from a typical menu, but one plate works well for one person. I had what they called "lamb T-bone" and it was truly delicious! The primary server was very pleasant, though sometimes a bit slow as she covered her other assignments, but staff members were super about pitching in to help. In fact, one of the chefs looked over and asked if I liked mushrooms; when I said yes, he whipped up and gifted me a delicious serving of several types of mushrooms and seasonings that isn't currently on the official menu. Another staff member recommended a toffee-flavored cheesecake dessert, which was also delicious. They know how to feed you, obviously enjoy doing it, and do it very well, indeed! I would definitely recommend it to others.
We had brunch on Sunday and it was very quiet and clean! The food was great! I had the fried chicken in a biscuit sandwich, so delicious! Coming back to try dinner next month!
We had gotten such great recommendations for WAR.
It started with parking. Unless you pay $5 to valet, it's up to you to find street parking which wasn't easy to find.
Then, they weren't quite ready to seat us when the restaurant opened at 5:00.
The restaurant was ice cold. Uncomfortable and food got cold very quickly.
The wine pour was ridiculously small. The menu is eclectic, hard to order from. Selections are minimal. That's probably part of their way to market their uniqueness.
It was expensive for the offerings. And the liquor!
Not a good dining atmosphere to feel comfortable. Couldn't wait to get out.
Will not be returning. Our expectations were sorely thwarted.
Oh, and a guy in jeans, tee shirt and ballcap who looked like he just came from working in the field was working the counter and apparently
reviewing the plated food before being served. Way out of place.
Our waitress was great and very attentive.
I'd never heard of the place but I'm new to St. George so I'm not surprised. A friend here knows that my wife and I are really into taste, smell, and experience and he loves this place and urged us to try it. We don't eat out very often at all and we prefer to make gourmet food at home.
I've eaten some miraculous meals in my life and it's been a while but I have to say that this place is top notch. We ordered all kinds of dishes and just shared everything and all of the dishes were fabulous. We shared the bone-in ribeye and I hesitated because it was $50 a' la carte' but the thing was huge and gave us 4 meals. It was charred to perfection yet still rare/medium rare on the inside. The buttermilk biscuits were the best I've ever eaten.
Not sure about their wine list because I brought my own bottle to make sure I had the right one for the meal. The cork fee was reasonable. The thing I appreciated the most was the open feel. You can watch the chefs cook and the decor in modern and beautiful. The vibe was very inviting. We will go back sometime for sure.
Loud! But the biggest problem is they need more waiters and ones that are more attentive to their customers! This is the 3rd time we have eaten there and the other two times were wonderful but this time not too much....
Amazing food and beautiful location!
We ate here twice over a week as a consequence of traveling there and back. This is a very good restaurant for St George with some very creative cooking. We also staying the night in the Advenir Hotel, in which the restaurant is located. Fabulous, 5-star accommodations at a 3-star price.
I liked the restaurant. The atmosphere was nice. We were disappointed in the wine offerings. We were told they were out of most wines offered by the glass. The main dishes were OK. They were a little too fancy for my taste. I'm not sure St. George will truly accept this concept considering it's demographic. WAR may be better suited catering to the out of town guests more rather than on the locals like me.
This is a fabulous restaurant! Beautiful atmosphere, staff was terrific, and the food was outstanding. We are so glad that we stumbled across the reviews and decided to give it a try. We will definitely be back next time we are in St George!
Our food and service were good. We found it odd that our check was dropped while we were eating dessert. Our waitress was nice and professional during the entire dinner but that final episode was strange
Started with a few small plates: pork belly and watermelon ( good with some sambal spice but only two small blocks of the belly); house made bread with butter and jam (good, but the berries in the jam did not break down all the way, this left them the size of raisins with a harder texture, removing these would make the jam much better); baked Brie (served with blueberries, mustard seeds, salami jam and toast points- this dish was terrific); and pork rinds (honey and chili powder drizzle -also very enjoyable.
For an entree we had steak frites. Well cooked, but sinewy in places served with a chimichuri sauce and house made katsup and steak sauce. Very nice, and the fries were good (but I should have ordered them crispy).
For wine we chose a Domaine Drouhin Macon Villages Chardonnay which put up quite a fight to not be opened, but the server eventually prevailed.
All in all, for the area, quite impressed and we see ourselves returning on the regular.
Yet to be disappointed about any of their menu items, and I'm pretty sure I've had all of them at this point. They fly in oysters out of BC that are the best I've ever had.
Amazing dining experience in St. George. Will highly recommend to all of our friends.
WAR is St. George’s only gourmet restaurant and it is doing a wonderful job since its opening a few months ago. It specializes in small plates, like octopus tentacles, pork belly with compressed watermelon and three sauces, and the like. Every dish we tried was delicious and unusual. Even the biscuits are wonderful. Deserts are also great, especially the bread pudding. Service is pleasant and professional and the decor is beautiful, especially for the area.
Best meal I’ve ever had. Truly exceptional all around . Beautiful restaurant, excellent service, fabulous menu, delicious meal from drinks to appetizers to desserts to on point pricing. This is the absolute best restaurant in St. George.
Very fresh, very tasty food. Excellent flavors, nice presentation. Service was top-notch. Tables well-spaced, conversation was easy. Wonderful addition to local food scene.
Finally a real restaurant in St. George! We have been travelling there from SLC for years and have been complaining about the lack of decent restaurants in the area the whole time. There are a few decent places, but it is very hard to find a place that has a decent selection of wines, plus innovative food. Thank you Wood Ash Rye for filling both of those needs.
We really enjoyed our meal, the ambiance was great. Our server was clueless about alcohol, but she found someone (from the bar) who was great. We stuck with small plates and loved everything we had except the lamb. The BBQ shrimp was a standout - fantastic. We will definitely be back!
Just to try. Meal was expense. The menu was confusing. Didn’t like how the meal worked. A set meal with sides at a set price would work better.
The couple we went with just wanted a plain steak... did not like all the sauces.
Lots of St George cheap people won’t pay your prices.
I will come again to try lunch or breakfast....
We had several small plates. All were delicious. The filet was on point. Cocktails were great.
What a refreshing change for St George! Finally a restaurant that is creative, focused on quality and can feel like an adult with its delicious craft cocktails!!
Love Sego in Kanab so had a sense of what could be. Thank You for taking a chance with St George
Food was superior, we had a small issue with an entree but it was handle exceptionally well. We attend to return soon! This town needs a fine dining experience and this is it!
Beautiful ambiance with a wonderful, innovative menu.
Wow, finally a good quality restaurant in st George that isn’t a chain! Everything is homemade and the BYU’s cutis are a must! We also loved our server Carrie
