Woodlands Bar & Terrace
We had a very nice meal and staff worked in a Covid safe manner
We had the Sunday roast could have had a few more potatoes very nice food all three courses well presented .The atmosphere was quite and pleasant, the staff were friendly and pleasant from the start.
Although this was not mentioned when booking, the restaurant was actually closed and we were asked to sit in the Woodside Restaurant next door which is a dark, tired café type facility.
Also, presumably because of Covid regulations, all the doors to the outside areas were left open and it was not a very warm evening.
The food was fine but despite there not being many fellow diners, the service levels were not great.
The food was tasty and excellent value for money.staff weren’t helpful and friendly.
Good food plenty of space lovely gardens. We were next to kitchen and coffee machine hence ambience lower so ask for window. This was my old hall of residence so trip down memory lane.
Exceptionally tasty food and generous portion sizes. Friendly service, would recommend.
The afternoon tea food was delicious, served on a lovely "picnic table" slate bench. Numerous small cakes/macaron, warm scones with clotted cream and jam - and delicious sandwiches (smoke salmon, coronation chicken, ham). There was also the cutest miniature cottage pie tart and deep fried mac ' cheese.
I would have given the afternoon tea a genuine 5 star review for the food and service. I was just a little disappointed, as our first trip, with the table decor. The tables looked like formica and I think if I was dining there in the evening, I would feel a bit let down.
Not bad, but service a little slow, distracted by a very noisy elderly group, persistently given to formal speech-making. That rather spoiled the ambience. Food decent as usual, with better starters than mains, for the latter of which choice was a little limited, with two of the eight choices being burger-equivalents. Too many of the eight were commonplace dishes that I often cook at home, and I would like a more imaginative menue. Cheese board was rather dull in composition, lacking 'bite' and without a blue, but on mentioning this, maitre d' did discount one of our three cheeseboards, which was a positive response, and did you credit.
The service was horrendous, had to wait for cutlery and sauces. 3 starters served out of 4 had to chase the 4th one up. Staff just stood talking.
Food is good, the superfood salad to start was excellent however the entire meal was ruined by the dreadful service
Food good but service mixed - ordered side dishes of veg but order was lost. Ambience a little too clinical.
Fantastic atmosphere! Brilliant setting for an anniversary meal. The food beautiful. 💕
The food tasted wonderful but some of it could have been hotter, I could understand it if the restaurant was busy but it wasn't. The service was prompt without being pushy but it was like there had been a bust-up of some find in the kitchen because there were no smiles, no small talk, no interaction apart from that that was issential. They just all seemed to be unhappy so ambiance was rock bottom. This is a real shame because everything else was really good.
It only takes a small drop of black in a pot of white paint to colour everything grey!
It was ok, nothing to write home about, I have had s lot better meals from hotels we have stayed in
I thought the bat Area was very small and not an overall great atmosphere in the restaurant
we visited the Convive restaurant on a saturday night and the restaurant was busy table booked for 7 pm, we were seated at 7 pm service was very slow menu arrived at 7.20pm along with staff to take a drinks order which duly arrived at 7.30pm we ordered a main course which arrived at 7.50pm the food was excellent at 8.20 we ordered a sweat but at 8.45 this had not arrived so we payed the bill and left.Food wise it was excellent service wise very poor indeed, they had two large parties in and seemed not to have enough staff to cope, we were not impressed
Excellent food a little pricey but worth it every now and then. Would recommend.
We enjoyed our meal with friends at the Convive restaurant; good service and tasty, well presented food.
The restaurant is typical "conference type" - lots of easily moveable tables, clean and well laid out, but no atmosphere. I suspect it would be very noisy if busy...
The staff we’re friendly but not to the point of spoiling the experience by continually asking if everything is ok like some restaurants. The food was very good, Pork and Seafood linguine were both very tasty.
The food was good. Not very hot though. I found the decor to be out of line with the Jacobean Hotel. Too modern. It was very noisy. The staff were very good at service but they were all wearing jeans?? Found this a bit strange as we were in a 16th century hotel. Maybe this is the way forward but not for me
Quick service, lovely ambiance , food tasty and plentiful, lovely afternoon
Would definitely recommend a visit, but confirm any offer if booking the hotel and ask to be seated away from the bar area
Beautifully cooked food although a little on the expensive side. Worth it though as a special occasion.
The serving staff were v pleasant & attentive but a little on the slow side considering the restaurant was relatively quiet.
All in all though a very pleasant experience. Thank you x
If you are staying at the hotel, then the restaurant is convenient. The service was excellent. We both chose the pasta, which perhaps was a mistake - a lot of pasta and not a lot of sauce. Desserts were good.
Service was rushed, as if they wanted you out, hubby still chewing food and they took his plate & napkin away. Pre paid for dinner back in Febuary, but was still charged for it, when questioned , they took it off the bill, but put an optional service charge on of 4.75 !!! Needless to say we asked them to take it off, we tip what we want not what is expected.
Absolutely lovely afternoon tea, would highly recommend.
it was amazing afternoon tea the best ive had so nice unusual, really lovely. staff were kidna nd attentive. loved it and so cheap x
Pleasant surroundings and good food and wine. Good and friendly service
Very nice meal staff couldn't do enough very nice place
Had the sunday lunch. Onion soup was a bowl of cream and the 3 of us had the roast. Rock hard roast potatoes a bit of veg and 2 slices of meat - £17.50. Appalling value
The restaurant was clean and tidy, as it always is, and we were seated in a nice booth.
The menu has changed since our last visit and is now printed on a large card, more like a chain restaurant.
Our order was taken fairly quickly, but we did have to say 'could we also order some drinks?'.
About 15 minutes after our order was placed, we were informed that there was no smoked salmon left, as a large party had used it all, so we had to choose another starter. Everything seemed to take a long time to be delivered.
When it came to the dessert, we both ordered the treacle tart. After 15-20 minutes, we were informed that 'the kitchen had looked everywhere, but couldn't find any!
When I paid the bill, I said that we hadn't had a particularly good experience and that it was disappointing, particularly as it was my Dad's birthday (which I had mentioned on the phone the previous day to Gleb, although no-one said anything on the day). The person apologised and offered me a free glass if prosecco, which I refused as I had already had a glass of wine and was driving. We also needed to be elsewhere by this time.
All in all, not what you would expect of a restaurant of this standard of hotel. If the kitchen cannot cope with large parties as well as the normal service, then this really needs to be addressed.
I’m sorry to say we didn’t enjoy our meal.
My husband had soup when he he said was ok, I had prawns in tempura batter the batter was soggy on the bottom and very bland.
Mains we both had fish and chips... I wouldn’t call the giant fried wedges of potato’s chips! The fish was well cooked but the fish, “chips” and mushy peas all very bland no seasoning on anything.
All food is freshly prepared and of a high standard. One can enjoy a top class meal in leisure, staff are attentive but not intrusive.
Two guests couldn't eat beef and ale pies as pastry too hard to pierce with fork, so added gravy supplied which was very salty so left meals as couldn't eat them
Told staff who deducted one, not two, from bill which was still almost £100 including coffes and soft drinks
Poor value for money
Manager told chef who sent apologies but was too busy to come out personally. Restaurant wasn't that busy
Disappointing reunion of friends who hadn't met up for a while
A great meal from the grill menu looking forward to trying the new dinner menu we have been told starts mid April great staff and very good atmosphere
The restaurant has been divided into two separate dining areas. It is now cluttered with the table being to close together and noisy. Most of the original waiters and waitresses have either left or been moved on. On Sunday the main main course was no longer available at 2pm and several other diners left without ordering. This was our favourite restaurant but not any more we will be going elsewhere.
Dear Guest We are sorry that you feel the changes are not for the better, however the restaurant is under going a number of changes, there will be both a grill room menu, and a evening dinner menu. The new dinner menu will be served Tuesday to Saturday. This will be launched in April and we have appointed a incredible talented chef, we will be shortly officially launching this across our media network. Once again sorry for you experience during this period of transition
Has to be the worst meal I have ever had in a restaurant.
Dear Guest I am sorry you feel you had a bad experience, currently we are undergoing change to launch a new concept, sine you meal we have already launched our grill menu with great feedback and in April we will launch our dinner menu which will be produced by Marcus Fisk a well known local chef formally of Norse in Harrogate. We are confident the changes are positive and hope you feel you can come back and judge for yourself.
Food very enjoyable, although ham hock croquettes could do with a bit more taste. Unfortunately, we were sat in the side that's been screened off and were with parties having afternoon tea. It was very noisy. The staff were all very attentive though and helpful.
Great food and helpful friendly staff. My wife and I are regular diners for either lunch or dinner and always get a warm welcome
Suggest early evening, say before 7pm, quick meal price. We were in a rush when we went.
Excellent food quality. Service slow and lack of attention
My wife and I usually visit the restaurant at least once a week. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is of a high standard. Highly recommended.
