Wren Bistro & Bar
Slow and detached bar staff, out of ingredients for cocktail, no silverware on table = wait to eat food, wait staff overworked
Our server, Liz was excellent in taking our order and checking on us periodically. My chicken salad (best in SC) was delicious. I'll will be back again to enjoy the WREN.
Unfortunately there was a party of 14 there and only 2 cooks so kitchen was backed up. Our server was attentive and kept us informed. Hopefully next time will be better.
Great staff, very accommodating, and blessed with a wonderful waitress, Grace!
Food was delicious...pecan crusted chicken and the meatloaf.
Drove over to Beaufort with friends from HHI and decided to try Wren. The only regret is that we haven't been sooner! The decor, ambiance, quality of food and service were all 5 stars. Worth the drive!!!
We're so glad that Wren is nearby - a great place to meet friends, or have a "just us" meal. My current favorites are the shrimp and grits, and the pecan chicken.
Great food, service and attention to detail. Because we were conducting an interview, I had asked for a quiet table when I made the reservation, weeks in advance. They made note and accommodated us. Food and service were excellent. Couldn't ask for a better place for lunch.
Went early. Had a great time. Food and service was really good. Shrimp and grits were delicious. Shared everything since the portions are generous and we’re old. The beet salad was outstanding.
Mixed bag. Fried green tomatoes were great. They were out of grits so served the “shrimp and grits” over a fried grit cake. May have been passable but the sauce was extremely runny like it had been watered down to stretch what they had left. Sent it back and got a fairly bland plate of salmon with sides. The hamburger was over cooked and under “dressed” for a 12 oz. patty..... one small thin slice of tomato, a few slivers of onion and ketchup served in a small paper cup . Unlikely we will return.
The food and service were excellent!!! We will definitely be returning soon!
We have never been disappointed here. The fish and grits are both top notch. The menu is creative and interesting. The service is top notch. Tonight we stopped in without reservations - 6:30 on a Friday night. They were able to seat us immediately at a high top in bar area. Service was still faultless and the experience was still great. That’s why we return time after time.
We had the seafood bisque and steak. Both were wonderful, steak was expertly seasoned. Delish! One of our new favorite dinner places.
Energetically served and pretty food but just really not very good. Fish fry fell apart on arrival, crab cake had only a little crab, dirty rice bland. Shrimp and grits an improvement.
Mahi was outstanding!!
Wren is my favorite restaurant for lunch. However , on Saturday, they did not have enough wait staff, and service was slow. Food was still delicious
Wonderful hostess and wait staff,,,the food is superb! This is our favorite place to eat in Beaufort.
Our lunch order was a burger and a Reubin Sandwich. Both were below average. The Reubin was made with chunky corned beef that fell out onto the plate. Sour Kraut was all lumped on one side and could not be respread because the meat kept falling out. And the hassled waitress would ask if we needed anything and begin walking away as we answered.
Very casual elegance, our service was very good, the food was very good and came out in a timely manner. They were out of several items we wanted to order however what we had was excellent! We would definitely go back again!
Service was great, the food was excellent and it wasn’t too loud
Good range of menu selections. Presented in a timely manner by friendly staff
I highly recommend if your looking for the perfect place to dine.
Good food. Prices not bad. Our waitress was slow, even by Southern standards. Overall very good.
Our new go-to place for dinner in Beaufort. My husband is still raving about his flaky flounder that he had a few nights ago, saying it is the best fish dinner he can recall in terms of taste, presentation and sides. I had a dinner salad that was equally good. Service was excellent. The restaurant can get noisy. If that's a problem, ask for a table on the side. I've already booked the restaurant for an upcoming special occasion.
Great staff. The host and our waitress were very polite and nice. Food was great! Loved the atmosphere as well.
Wren is usually our 'Go To' restaurant when we go to Beaufort. We love the food, and the atmosphere. Not so on our last visit though. We wanted to get the mushroom flatbread appetizer. We were told that there had been a truck delivery problem. So we picked something else, a hummus plate. We were told that that too, was not available; same reason. I was struck by the lack of initiative. Surely a 'replacement' hummus could have been found from the supermarket around the corner. As it was we both had something we did not really care for. We should have gotten up and left.
Very disappointed with Wren. This was the first time in seven years, and Wren did not live up to our memory. Salad was overdressed significantly, the sauce on the Maui & Shrimp was heavy and bland, and the mashed potatoes with the ribeye we’re getting cold. Not worth the money, and we will find somewhere else the next time we travel to Beaufort. On a good note, the server and the overall ambience was great.
If you are in the mood for a great burger this is the place to go. It is huge, flavorful, juicy, has all the toppings and comes with perfect fries.
We have also thoroughly enjoyed the Uptown Grilled Cheese sandwich, Southern Tier (Fried green tomatoes, goat cheese, etc.) and the Butcher's Sandwich to name a few.
You just can't go wrong with any menu item. The first bite makes you pause to savor all the flavors.
We love eating at the Wren. Not only is the food great, the service is always perfect.
We we’re meeting our friends at the bar for dinner. It was unclear whether there was wait service at the tables in the bar. Staff was milling around and chatting with each other for 10 minutes; finally ordered from the bartender. Then the waitress arrived.... Then our friends arrived and again, no wait service. The woman who waited on us for dinner seemed chronically annoyed . Didn’t check on us. Didn’t bring the water one guest requested. Rolled her eyes when we asked for two checks.
The food was very good!
(we have been to Wren several times. The wait staff there seem more interested in chatting with each than serving customers. It’s a chronic problem there).
As much as I enjoy the food at Wren, the service is always lagging behind expectations. I had a noon reservation, yet waited several minutes because the hostess was tied up handling a carry out order. Small infraction, but noticeable. This is followed by the inability to get our waitress’s attention on several occasions when we were in need of various items forgotten at the table: sugar, salt & pepper, others.
Both my husband and I were happy with our meals and price. Our server Tina was excellent.
Love the restaurant. Also, the service by Barbara was excellent. She did a wonderful job!!
This was a very nice restaurant that we could walk to from our hotel. My dinner (pork chop, spoon bread, asparagus) was fabulous. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband got meatloaf which was a serving large enough to serve several others. I thought the dining room was a little under-decorated and dark. Nothing really charming about it. Overall, however, it was a very pleasant dinner and experience.
frankly- portions are very large-nobody needs a 12 oz burger even if it is fabulous
My friends enjoyed the cranberry chicken salad and I thought the LowCountry Tier was very unique, with it's fried green tomatoes and sweet tomato jam. I would definitely return and order the same dishes.
Took the server 20 min to come to my table.. her services felt very rushed although friendly. I got recommendations to try the meatloaf. I took a picture if it and sent it to my friend. Even my friend said WHAT DID THEY DO..THEY CHANGED IT. The meatloaf was wrapped in chewy bacon..took that off..the toppings were good ,but now I know why..the meat was very bland. The cocktail 210 twist was good. The garnish was bit on the lazy side. If you are going to come across as upscale..sell upscale product.
Very casual, relaxed atmosphere with a good array of food options (although a little less so for vegetarians) and a decent selection of wine and beer. Burgers are great.
Our food and waitress were wonderful! The hostess was rude! When we walked in I inquired about our table. She was snippy and not friendly at all. She even made a comment to another waitress/hostess about how we didn’t want a certain table. It wasn’t a very nice welcome for our group.
However, we had a wonderful waitress who made our dinner pleasant.
This was a very nice restaurant! Generous portions for the price. If you want something that sticks to your ribs, I strongly recommend Mama's Freakin' Meatloaf!
Over all really enjoyed - will definitely go back and recommend to others, but price makes it an option reserved for special occasions. Food was delicious - I am not a fish lover, but absolutely devoured the flounder. My husband had the Saturday steak special, which he said was good, not great - he helped me finish the flounder and we took the steak home. Along with a piece of coconut cake, which was delish 😋. Our service was less than stellar, but we observed other tables getting what seemed to be very good service, so maybe just an “off” night for or server.
4 people, all ordered salmon. Asked how we wanted cooked..rare, medium, well done. We all said medium. Came out very, very rare. We all took a couple bites and then said no more. Chef offered to cook more and said in future we should order medium well. Didn't want to send back..how do you know whose plate your getting back? Were not charged for salmon. Only charged for appetizer and wine.
