Yangban, the genre-defying Korean American culinary ‘conversation’, which opened in Los Angeles’ Arts District, re-opens after a transformative interior overhaul of the space, revealing an evolution of the highly acclaimed restaurant. Now featuring a full-service dining room and updated food and beverage programs, the concept remains at its core a Modern-Korean American restaurant as told through the lens of husband-and-wife chefs Katianna and John Hong.

    our waiter was fantastic and so welcoming. I loved the way you can have lots of small bites so you can taste so many things. it makes for a really fun dinner. Everything we ate was so interesting and flavorful. the matzoh ball dumplings are such a burst of goodness. The blue crab tostada was such a great combination of textures...the hot smoked trout was a new take on a totally old world flavor yet it took us right into a comfort zone and the lobster claw was amazing...the banchan sides were all so delightful on their own and worked together as a choir....don't miss the cheesecake if they have it...so light and airy it just melted in our mouths...the perfect ending.

    Dinner was so delicious. We ordered all appetizers as their small plates and it worked out perfectly. Service was just okay- our waiter wasn’t very on it. But everything thing else was fantastic!!!

    Caesar salad, oysters, and sundae were the only enjoyable dishes. Everyone agreed that the overall cost of the meal was high, considering the lackluster and unimpressive food on the table. In particular, the trout smear turned out to be a surprising disappointment, as it was essentially tuna fish salad on an English muffin.

    What happened to this place??? It used to be so good. I would actually get a heavy portion of food and everything is literally finger food on the tiniest plates at almost the same price.  My roasted carrots literally came in a ramekin bowl…. This is a portion of the wings. I definitely will not be coming back sadly.

    the chicken wings, & duck were delicious and mushroom & pickles were good. Everything else was ok. The staff and ambience is good. The plates are small. Beware the $25 PER PERSON cancellation fee, dont make a reservation, if ur party size shrinks you will be charged.

    Went to celebrate a birthday with friends and had an amazing experience. Because of our party size we did the pre-fixe tasting menu, which really delivered. The cocktails were perfectly balanced and their house special edition makgeolli was phenomenal. The food was excellent. The flavors were complex and distinctly Korean, while still being fresh and new. Group favorites were the oysters, the pea shoots and kimchi banchan, the soondae, the sea bream, and the buffalo milk soft serve with the works. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We can’t wait to go back!

    The second time we've eaten at Yangban, and it lived up to our rapturous memories of the first time we dined there. The vibe is hip and fun, the service is super friendly (but not too friendly) and the food is inventive and surprising and delicious. My only sadness was that the roasted carrots with yogurt, which (surprisingly) was our standout dish the first time, has been transformed into a tiny plate with chunks of carrots instead of the long spears, and somehow not as striking. Everything else was spot on—the matzo mandu (dumplings) in chicken broth; the glorious, addictive chicken wings; the porchetta, and the smoked trout schmear on potato bread. For foodies who like a little adventure, this place is for yu.

    Service was bad, but food was great. We ordered the tasting menu at $75 per person and everything was fantastic. The amount you get for $75 in LA was worth it to order. But, we didn't receive our food until 30 mins later AFTER ordering. There are so many employees running around but none really attentive. They also charge you $25 if a person in your party cancels day of. BUT, they don't charge you extra if you'd like to add people to your reservation day of. Read the fine print when making a reservation. The arrogance and nonchalance attitude about the crappy service really sealed the deal for me. Won't be returning even though the food is great.

    The entire experience was great. The greeting, the service, the food, and the atmosphere. However, the only issue that came up for me was when the check arrived, and I noticed an additional 4% added onto the bill, which was indicated as Additional restaurant management. I am 100% against any additional fees for any reason whatsoever. I believe that added expenses to a restaurant, are part of doing business. I would much rather see menu items, higher priced, than an additional charge at the end. .

    I've been wanting to try out Yangban Society since it opened, having been to both Meadowood and Melisse in the past and loved both of them. They had a tasting menu that reasonably priced ($75/pp) so we decided to go with that. The first course was oysters in a yuzu mignonette that were fresh and delicious. The second course was a number of small plates; pickles, kimchee, roasted carrots, broccoli with chicken skin furikake, an avocado and pear salad, and a pea shoots and chives salad, Everything had very distinct flavors and textures, the carrots and broccoli were my favorites from this course. The third course was a black bean bolognese past and a Korean inspired Cesar salad with both romain lettuce and Napa cabbage leaves. They were both great but the portions were generous so we didn't finish either of them as we wanted to save room for the main courses. They were two options for the main and we got one of each, the duck leg confit w/beets and plums was definitely the better of the two, the grilled sea bream was good but not as flavorful or interesting. They were served with a mixed rice. We were too full to eat dessert there but we took a piece of cheesecake home which was lovely. We each ordered a cocktail and shared a half bottle of wine. The total with tax and tip was $300, which was a fair price for the quality of food and the service provided. We were very happy with the experience and will likely come back again soon to try some of the items not included on the tasting menu that appealed to us.

    Everything was off. Overpriced food (ie $28 for 6 pieces of Ttuek-bokki. Overpriced prebatched canned cocktails without a bartender. The sea bream actually tasted terrible. My party was unhappy dining here.

    FANTASTIC experience at Yangban. This was my second time dining here and it did not disappoint! We brought our friends and they were blown away by the delicious food and great service!     The tasting menu was really fun and tasty. We felt very adventurous by trying everything. Such unique small plates! It did seem a little off that almost all the dishes were served together, kind of like a smorgasbord. Felt a little like we were being encouraged to eat quickly. But the waitstaff was top notch, and very thoughtful and helpful. While the roasted carrots, Caesar salad, kimchi and pickles were our favorites, we also enjoyed the canned cocktails, ice cream, and apple crumble. Highly recommend for foodies!

    Food lovingly prepared, great company and a terrific energy and care in service. The Wings and Dumplings are a must. Try the Porchetta and the delicious SeaBream. Pair them with Soju for a special evening. Yangban delivers.

    Large area with hard surfaces made the room very noisy. The waitress was eager to help and described a number of dishes. We decided on two entrees: porchetta and sea bream and a side dish of carrots. All were quite interesting, good sauces and nice presentation. The carrots were the least intriguing; hard to figure carrots from dates, interesting but not really worth $18. Canned wine! We elected to go for Margerum half bottle. Chocolate dessert was very rich; would have been better if they had coffee! They only have cold brew, cold!

    I ate here when they first opened to seated diners in November 2022. That was an excellent experience and I was nervous that it might not live up to my expectations the second time around. I literally dreamed of that first meal for weeks. My fears were not justified as it was just as amazing the second time around. The flavor combinations are so unique and so well - balance you just marvel at the ingenuity. I am amazed at how they have made food that feels hearty and comforting but with flavors of the finest dining establishment. Everytime I go to LA I will make sure to visit. You should too - you won't be disappointed.
