Yasu - Sushi Bar
Phenomenal experience - likely the best dining experience of my life and definitely the best I’ve had in Toronto (in 10+ years being here)! It was a sublime experience that had us feeling relaxed and in an exceptional state of mind during and for a while afterward. The food was outstanding as was the experience of watching our food be masterfully prepared in front of us. Plus every dish was simply delectable, and the absolute perfect amount was served. We’ll definitely be remembering this experience for a while to come! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
It was definitely an amazing experience. The nigiri was fresh, though some pieces were a bit repetitive in taste and texture. I appreciate the hard work the chef and staff put into creating the food as well as the overall atmosphere. The service was amazing. Would definitely recommend someone who is able to afford this experience to at least try this once
Food was fresh and prepared in front of you. Brought me back to Japan, I love it!
Amazing service and experience. The atmosphere was great and overall a great time. Definitely a must try!
Only one word can describe this: WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of the omakase options in Toronto, this is one of the cheaper ones, with Saito being $500 per person. Very cozy location with an intimate experience that is both delicious and informative.
Wasn't as good as the last time I was here, the fish guts was interesting but I didn't love it. Still everything was prepared well overall. I actually prefer the change of the crab meat with crab guts mixed. It doesn't look as pretty as the leg and roe sitting on top but the flavour was better. With the overall menu not changing I don't know when I'll be back.
Best sushi I have had in Toronto. Quite expensive though.
Service need to be improved!
The chef’s selection was fabulous. I joked with him and told him that’s he’s the Jiro of Toronto and out of respect for Jiro Ono, he bowed down humbly and said he was no match for Jiro. The smoke yellowfin with ponzu sauce was outstanding. Highly recommended, the best omakase in the whole of North America.
It was a wonderful meal
Went for Anniversary. As good as Tokyo omakase
Came here for my mother’s birthday, was a very good experience at Yasu. Food was amazing, Chef was super friendly, quality of food matches with what you would get in Japan. Would definitely recommend all my friends and family to come pay a visit!
I really love their sushi and the professionalism of the Japanese chef. The presentation was really nice. Everyone says Shoushin is the best in Toronto, but after trying Yasu, both my friend and I think Yasu much better in food. However, I don't like the smell in the restaurant. The service is kind messy too. I think Shoushin has much better service and atmosphere.
The restaurant is quite small but it is very intimate as the bar seating gives you front row seats to the chefs. Fish is imported from various countries and they all tasted amazing. As with all omakase, you don't know what you're eating until you get it! Would definitely go back more often if it wasn't so pricey, but it's worth it.
Brought parents to Yasu. They never disappoint and food is absolutely scrumptious and fresh!
Me and my boyfriend went to Yasu for our anniversary. The restaurant is small and cosy, there are about 12 bar sittings and two tables. There are about 20 courses served, food are fresh however I don’t find it’s special. The chef served us doesn’t seem like having passion about his job, he’s more like a robot repeating same sentence to different ppl. The course is 135/person, I will say it’s okay value since there are 20 pieces, hows it’s not the best value if you are looking for something amazing.
The food and dining experience were exceptional. We really enjoyed the chill ambience and cozy space there. There were only 12 seats at the sushi bar, 2 chefs - each handle 6 people; and about 6 seats at private tables. The only problem we experienced was that they were unreachable through either phone or email. Phone call will direct you to voice mail/online booking, email was unresponsive. Other than that, our concern got sorted out quickly once we arrived in-person at the restaurant. The rest of the experience was amazing.
Wine list was not very diverse and a bit overpriced.
It was excellent, top notch service all around. Best omakase I’ve had so far!!
Lovely experience with the chef being very attentive!
We had a party of our for sushi with wine pairing. Overall, the food was excellent although the service was a little slow with the wine not quite pairing with our food.
Such an amazing dinner experience at Yasu. Everyone was so courteous, attentive, and informative. Everything was above expectations.
Food is just okay. Just feel it’s overrated.
The only complaint is that the sushi chef who served my section was a bit stingy with the rice. The rice is very important. He asked if we were ok with the amount to be fair but I almost felt it would be rude to ask for more. This is a very minor issue and in a way giving less rice really made the freshness of the fish more apparent. However getting to eat sushi rice prepared the real way is not something we get to experience much in this city and as such I would have liked to get pieces as big as the other diners ( my section was getting noticeably smaller pieces).
Amazing food, nice peaceful atmosphere. Love the intimate small space. Chef was friendly and serviced us well.
Amazing Omakase!! Omakase means "I will leave it to you" and you will be happy you did! Not only was the 20 (!) courses unique (lime zested Lobster Nigiri??) but they also do a very nice job explaining the fish. They even bring out an iPad and explain the three types of Tuna you are having from lighter to the every-so-tasty fatty tuna. Pricey for sure, but worth every penny for a special occasion.
We had such a great time. Went for our anniversary dinner for the second year in a row and Yasu still didn’t fail to disappoint! We may have to keep going back every year for our anniversary just because it’s so consistently delicious and always such a great experience!
Our 30th anniversary dinner. Food was good and fresh but no wow factor. Ambience was great but seatings were a little tight. Felt the sushi chef lacked the touch of interaction/communication with the patrons and the process of making and serving omasake was a bit mechanical.
Absolutely delicious. Authentic cuisine comparable to a Michelin star restaurant experience that I had in Osaka last year.
Lots of talk about around the price of this place. They aren’t trying to be your everyday meal, and with that considered I’m extremely satisfied with the price and food. Each course costs about $8 and for the quality of fish you’re receiving, I find it extremely reasonable. The staff seems like they are genuinely passionate about what they serve. I had an amazing experience and would definitely go back at some point.
The food off the chef's menu for my visit was exquisite. The service was great and the chef was a great personality and elite in his execution in preparing my food.
Best sushi I have experienced in Toronto. Not particularly a great date place as it's super quiet and everyone can hear your conversation. If you want quality sushi, this is a must try.
I made a reservation for my boyfriend’s birthday because he has been obsessed with Omakase. This was the best sushi experience we have ever had. It was so amazing watching them prepare the food, and they made a point of interacting and engaging us throughout the meal. We opted to do the sake pairing as well, which was incredible. They brought out 5 different sake which paired with the courses, and gave us a little background info about each one. Truly worth the price, and we cannot wait to go back!
AMAZING food and experience! Me and my husband loved it!
Just an awesome experience, an authentic Omkase experience in Toronto
The sushi chef gave me a broken piece of eel (he hid the broken piece under a towel) and the sea urchin sushi among other items did not seem as fresh as the first time I came here. I came for a friend's birthday and requested for something special. All they did was stick a candle on ice cream that everyone else got too. Furthermore, the sushi chef asked us if we wanted an extra piece of tamago and charged $7 for that. A bit disappointing compared to my first visit. Probably will not come back again. Will try other Japanese omakases.
It's a pricey meal but by far the best sushi, eating experience, and service I've ever had! They seat 12 people at the bar and there is one sushi chef per 6 people, so you get a very intimate experience and if your table mates are social it's a great experience to meet new people and talk directly with the chef.
The sake tasting was just OK, not a must.
I will be going back for a special occasion in the future!
Great omakase experience best to be enjoyed at the sushi bar. Would do it again!
Probably the best sushi meal I’ve ever had. Truly outstanding.
