I celebrated my birthday dinner at Yugen. The food was simply EXQUISITE! The service was seemless, professional and friendly. My server was pleasant and well versed on the menu, ingredients, etc. The staff made me feel very special including the General Manager came to my table to wish me a happy birthday and thank me for choosing Yugen. I will definitely be back!

The restaurant is beautiful and cozy. The staff could not have been better. The meal was a tasting menu that was very creative and delicious. Our primary waiter explained each dish very well. And the rest of the team handled the rest. Definitely one of my best restaurant experiences in Chicago.

World class international dining experience. The staff was cordial thorough and prompt. The food was beautiful and delicious, displayed on a vast collection of ceramic art pieces. Even the chop sticks were special! A sheer delight!

A true 7 course journey of sometimes (for me) uncharted flavors and textures. Full sensory experience with beautiful presentation and an extremely knowledgeable staff. I did the pairing which included high quality wines and sakes. Some unique sakes with various styles and vessels of aging. Also creative cocktail list. But you can’t go wrong pairing champagne with these courses and they have a fantastic selection of by the glass to accommodate. A well deserved Michelin Star for the quality, creativity, and staff.

Yugen went out of their way to help me coordinate a special birthday experience for my wife -along with me and four of her closest friends. The food, service, and ambiance were all absolutely outstanding. This included a wonderful vegan course for one of our guests. I really appreciate the attention to detail on all levels.

Food was phenomenal! Did not even have one mediocre dish! All were amazing. Highly impressed. In my opinion, easily one of the best tasting menus in Chicago, and we’ve done the majority of Michelin starred ones here (Alinea, Oriole, Acadia, etc). I’d say it was pricey compared to other 1star Michelins, but wow is all I can say. Strictly speaking to food and food alone, it’s now right at the top on my list with Schwa.

This was our second Valentine's Day at Yugen and I would highly recommend for anyone seeking a high-end dining experience. Everything was amazing - the food, wine pairings and service! We will definitely return for another special occasion.

It is not worth $250 of each for two people on Valentine’s Day . Food is just ok, but it is definitely below the Michelin standard.

Yugen is very impressive. Some of the dishes can be a bit too salty if you dislike saltiness. However, the overall experience is amazing. We had a great time. The chef blended Japanese ingredients with western style of cooking well. Tip: make sure you get a table in front of the kitchen window. We first were seated in the corner, but the staff was kind enough to move us to a table right in front of the kitchen window. We thought it’s more interesting to see how they prepare the meal.

We celebrated my best friends 30th birthday at Yugen and it was a mean to remember. 5 stars all around, everything from the ambiance and the delicious food to wonderful service! The cocktails are super unique and tasty. Our tastebuds were exploding after every bite, and every item was just so visually appealing as well. Morgan and her team know what they are doing and will make sure you walk away ever so satisfied. Bravo!

Very delicious japanese flavors. There wasn’t a dish that I didn’t like. It was a pleasant evening with genuine service. Had like 4 favorite dishes. Looking forward to going back next season.

I ate at Yugen and was so impressed with this fabulous Japanese inspired restaurant that I took my family there and everyone absolutely loved it! Chef Mari Katsumura has created two incredible tasting menus and working with GM Morgan Oszewski has created a team that delivers. The ambiance is beautiful and soothing and service spectacular. The 4 item appetizer is beautifully presented followed by beautiful dishes. The crab rice dish from her childhood is so good as was the A5 Wagyu. The Uni creation melted in our mouths. The pastry chef also delights with the desserts! This is a MUST visit restaurant for foodies and everyone who is looking for a great dining experience in Chicago. One of its best for sure!

Service was great but food was disappointed.

This was a high-quality experience with great service, my only issue was that the tasting menu was light on actual sushi itself, and while the desserts were great we could have swapped one dessert course for a nice shashimi. Nice for a couple and located east of the highway so very convenient. Would go again.

Food, service and ambiance were all fantastic!!

The food was outstanding. 3 out of 4 of us had dietary restrictions, and they accommodated us without hesitation, customized to each of our requests. Highly recommend this place. Very deserving of their Michelin star!

Loved everything - Our waitress Clarissa was so amicable and she took a lot of time engaging in personal conversations. We really enjoyed her serving our table. Food was very delicious especially the wagyu beef, the trout, the crab and the sashimi (also thanks for being so considerate to steam the fish for my husband who is not a frequent raw fish eater). The experience couldn't be better.

I found the space/ambience and staff at Yugen to phenomenal. The food was beautiful and the flavors were evocative; again highly enjoyable. The portion sizes were small even by Michelin starred standards. My wife particularly enjoyed the sake pairing with the meal, which I think is a rather uncommon opportunity to explore a spirit about which I know far less than wine. All in all, it was a very enjoyable meal.

Disappointed by the condescending attitude of the serving staff even before the food had arrived.
The food was confusing, not meeting the value.
Hope the chef would study more.

Food and Service excellent, but Portion size cheap. The one bite of my meat course was excellent, but as I say it was only one bite!

Food was perfect and they accommodated food allergies very well. Service was attentive, especially the woman who took the order. A few of the other servers who were to pour water made it hard to get their attention, but this was minor. Overall, very memorable!

Very nice food and service.

Lovely place, interesting food. I had the sake pairing, my dinner guest has the wine pairing. The wine was more to my taste, but sake was interesting. I’d choose the wine on my next trip.

The food is overall OKish, it has 2-3 dishes that are excellent but overall it’s a little bit salty and heavy. All the courses have rich flavors and awesome presentation. However, the flavor is not typical and I feel that I can get better dishes with the same amount that we paid
